I have been doing mat Pilates for over 10 years and recently moved from the Bay Area to Sebastopol…read morearea. I did a lot of research online and visited several Pilates studios in the Sebastopol. I was very happy with my previous studio and instructor and was looking for something similar. I wanted small classes, knowledgeable & friendly instructors, personal attention, suitable class schedule, clean, comfortable & well-equipped studio, easy parking, and affordable fees. Well, I found the perfect fit for me at Simply Pilates! Colleen is an amazing instructor. She is fun, energetic, and most importantly, knowledgeable in body physiology and the Pilates method. In every class, Colleen constantly gives verbal cues on posture and breathing. She varies what we do in each class so it is not repetitive and gets boring. We all know that Pilates is about strengthening the body core to improve posture, strength and flexibility. In my previous classes, I was just instructed to "suck" in my abs. With Colleen, the instruction is more detailed and she gets us to "identify, feel, work, & strengthen" so many different parts of our body that makes up our "core". I highly recommend Colleen and her Simply Pilates studio. She makes classes so fun and your body feel so good.

In a town with many excellent studios and teachers, Colleen has struck the perfect balance of size, offerings and is a teacher at the top of her game. An outstanding, compassionate, driven teacher, with the combination of training and knowledge, commitment to helping her students and being invested in their progress. Working with her at Simply Pilates is the best workout environment I've experienced. I've trained with Colleen for 4+ years. Our work finds improvement in every workout. Weekly work is so important to stay strong and healthy. Colleen has taught and shepherded me through two injuries (not from doing pilates ;\), two significant body dynamic issues and ongoing minor aches and pains. :D Run! Don't walk, to Simply Pilates!

I didn't think Pilates would be the right fit for me, but I noticed right away that it made not only a difference in my posture and the way I felt when I left, but it stayed with me throughout the week. My golf game has improved, and the teachers have done an amazing job with a reoccurring knee injury I've had undiagnosed for the past year or so. I am stronger, more flexible, and I pay attention to my posture much more, which helps keep me out of my bad habits and out of discomfort. I've taken classes with many of the teachers and done some private sessions -- I really can't say enough for the studio and the staff. They have a great selection of classes, including equipment classes and mat classes, and you can build up to what they call self-directed workouts. With self-directed you can come into the studio on your own and practice -- kind of like a gym membership. I was actually surprised at how detailed and intelligent Pilates is as an exercise system. The teachers blend an incredible knowledge of anatomy and functionality with so much clarity. They seem inspired and motivated by what they do and it genuinely makes me want to keep doing Pilates. I've already referred friends and family to Pilates Collective. It's definitely the place I want to spend my time and money when it comes to taking better care of myself.

I've found Pilate classes and working on a reformer has greatly improved my level of pain and actually takes it away. Consistently working the one hour session with her has improved my body composition for a better body overall. Ruthie is very knowledgeable on how to treat conditions and injuries from chronic pain with simple body movements to achieve mobility once again. I have been working with Ruthie for just over a year now, on a weekly basis. I was looking for a way build my upper and lower core to ease chronic neck pain from a car accident. When I first contacted Ruth via email, not only did she respond immediately, she provided a detailed analysis of the ways in which she might be able to offer assistance. The attention to detail has not changed since that first contact last summer. She is meticulous about planning each session to focus on ways to build upon work from previous week, while continuing to explore new ideas and challenge me physically. The most amazing part is that she is always ready to make adjustments after checking in with me at the beginning of each session. It is such a pleasure working with Ruthie - she is a fantastic personal trainer! I leave each session feeling like I have done well, made progress and learned key techniques for improving my body mechanics. Ruthie is so patient and intuitive during each session, subtly reminding me of key components of each move, reinforcing the correct alignment/positioning. During the COVID shutdown, Ruthie didn't skip a beat! She transitioned into Zoom sessions, which are amazingly effective. I must admit, I was doubtful about doing personal training via Zoom, but it has really worked well for me and she has been beyond flexible in finding a good time the works for us both. For anyone looking for a capable, knowledgeable, patient and truly amazing personal trainer - look no further. Ruthie is a gem!

I have taken both Barre and Reformer Pilates classes in her studio. I tend to become bored with exercise repetition, but Julie's classes offer a wide variety and challenge to keep me engaged. When I first began taking Pilates I experienced joint pain and limited range-of-motion in my body. But, by taking Julie's classes I am now enjoying greater muscle tone and improved joint flexibility. Julie addresses the individual needs of each student, through customized exercise to maintain a safe but challenging Pilates program.
