Every time I have visited this practice they are always trying to get me to agree to treatment that is completely unnecessary and very expensive. The last time I visited this practice I only went to get two injections that my cat Alfie had in the past. I told the vet that was what I wanted him give to Alfie. He did exactly what I asked him to do. On leaving I was presented with a bill for £102. £45 was for both injections that Alfie had been given. That, I do not begrudge paying. What I did begrudge was a £57 consultation fee when there was no consultation given. The dictionary definition of consultation is as follows: A meeting with an expert or professional, such as a medical doctor, in order to seek advice. There was no advice sought, I told the vet exactly what I wanted him to do to Alfie and he did. Tameside Vets have refused to refund the £57 fee for a consultation that never happened. Unfortunately over 50% of veterinary practices are now owned by private equity corporations. All they are interested in doing is relieving you of as much money as they can. Their motivation isn't animal welfare, it is purely profit. Even the vets there are more like salespeople. They push you to go for every possible treatment even if you probably can't afford it. Independent vets are becoming rarer. They do have animal welfare at heart. Sadly these huge greedy corporations are not there for us and our pets benefit.

My dog Rosie had cancer for about a month in her bladder unbeknownst to us til we felt a strange lump, they managed to remove only some of it as it was so deep set, the vet did warn us that it may come back at some point. Unfortunately it came back a year later with full force, there was nothing they could do other than put her down due to her constant high temperature, her constant vomiting, incontinence and on and off appetite. We were mentally preparing for the day for a week since we got the call and a couple of days before she was due to be put down, we enquired if it's possible to put her down in her own home where she's comfortable as she doesn't like the vets, and to our surprise they had the nerve to say "well come round to fit the cannula in and then drive her to the vets to FINISH HER OFF". I was absolutely disgusted by them and thankfully found another company used previously by a family friend who came round to our home and put her down with respect and dignity We now have a puppy called Angel who we decided to never let her step foot into Kingsway out of respect for Rosie, instead we've signed her to Ashlands which are amazing and so sympathetic to both the animals and their owners.

The reason why I gave 5 stars is that Kingsway were able to give us such a quick appointment even though we had not been before or registered and also they were so supportive also a few days later we received a lovely ...with sympathy...card from the vet and all the team at Kingsway .Being short of staff they still found time to send a card...which touched us.

Bippin is one of only two independent vets left in Leeds. He is eminently sensible and is happy to go for the 'watch and wait' approach even though that means he makes less money. When my labrador puppy was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and I had been watching too much Supervet he counselled me to hold back on surgery, and I am so glad I did as, with the appropriate meds, he is happy and fit and didn't have to go through months of recovery. Bippin always squeezes me in to pick up medicine or for a quick check if I am worried about something. I really hope he never retires as I could not go back to one of the money making factories like Holly House which look fabulous but in which the vets have profit targets. Yes, the surgery is a little bit scruffy, but what matters is the quality of care and the years of experience that Bippin has. I know he cares because I once went in after he'd had to put a dog down that he had known since it was a puppy and he was really sad about it.

I phoned the out-of-hours service at 6.45 am and the vet arrived by 7.30. Tragically my old horse had to be put to sleep. I was naturally devastated, but it would have been so much worse without this wonderful vet in attendance. He gave my old friend a gentle, dignified and pain-free passing and took care of all the removal arrangements. I am so grateful for their prompt and compassionate service.
