It actually used to be a fish processing plant and was converted…read more Speaking of fish, there are a lot of beautiful and whimsical glass and ceramic fish laying about on shelves and in the glass cases. You'll also find other beautiful glass items of hot glass sculptures such as octopus and crab etc. Huge paintings are hanging throughout the shop as well and include a large selection of the amazing Yaquina Bay bridge. They have very lovely jewelry in their cases including some sea glass work. There's a second floor that has a great Mickey collection and other works of art upstairs. It's one of the first galleries on the street as you head down Bay St. from the Coast Guard station. And if this all seems a little fishy to you don't take my word for it. Go check it out for yourself.

I drove 20 minutes south just to go here. The owner was talking with an older couple while I looked at some bowls. She said, "Those two are sold," and I thought she was talking to the couple she had been speaking to. Then, she walks right behind me and says loudly, "Those two are sold! I'll put them back." She was very rude. We quickly left and won't return. I'm not sure why you wouldn't keep sold pieces in the back, or at least be polite when someone is looking at them. As a small business owner, a decent demeanor is important. If you like to support artists, this is a great spot. I guess just hope the owner is in a good mood?

I had a wonderful 3 nights at the Sylvia beach hotel starting in a Sunday. The hotel is right next…read moredoor to the Visual Arts Center. In the past I have wanted to go inside but it is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. I was excited that this time (my second in 3 years) I would finally be able to visit the museum. I checked ahead of time to see what exhibits were on and hours, they were listed to change over a day or so after the last day of my visit. Open 10-4 Wednesday through Sunday, wonderful! Went for a cold and windy walk in the beach, changed clothes in my car and went to the museum. People inside, but doors locked. A woman came to the door and said that they were changing the exhibits and closed for the week, and that she had left the sign up stating that the center would be open Wednesday by accident as her "printer wasn't working". She let me walk as far as the front desk to see the wonderful are coming down and going up. Said she might let me go upstairs to see the other exhibits, but on second thought no, because not everything up there was "secured". Then she also explained that usually the Visual arts center was closed one week per month to change exhibits over. I suppose staffing might be tight, but I have never before known of a museum to close during regular business hours to change over an exhibit (not to mention advertising the old exhibit would be displayed for a couple more days after they were planning to take it down. The person in charge suggested I should come back another time. Maybe I will the next time. In a year or two. To sum up, the museum is open at random times, closed for a week or so once a month, call first because this is not mentioned in the web site. The art looks beautiful, and the museum has good lighting, from what I could see. Decent parking, at least in on a weekday.

Stunning display of a type of painting I had never heard of…read morebefore, with wax. Upstairs the display was just mind blowing, the sculptures, and the painting, I took a picture of it, was so amazing. The artist was there working on a new sculpture, an owl, it was beautiful. I found a print from another artist who had a small display downstairs, of something that really spoke to me that day, it was a very sad day, and this picture really helped me. The staff is just wonderful, they explain everything, and were amazing.

I love the one-of-a-kind stone jewelry options, I bought a piece I'm really in love with. I was even given a cord to wear my pendant on since i did not have chain at the time. My son found some rocks and stones he could afford for under $5 and we got gifts as well. What an incredible gallery hidden in little old Toledo! I was astounded by the unique selection of…read morework here...very different from your typical coastal galleries. It's also a working art studio, and Janet is a joy to speak with. Beyond the art pieces by Janet and others, you will also find a plethora of vintage objects and ephemera for sale. Many of the pieces are expensive, but truly good art is expensive because someone put vast amounts of time, effort, and creativity into an original piece. Definitely worth the trip if you're looking for unique pieces with a certain aesthetic.

The owner of the gallery makes a lot of the art that is hanging about. This is not your normal art at all. It is a huge mixed media cornucopia of repurposed, reclaimed, vintage, collage, etc. of fantastical art works. And they are not just the owners but there are also some other interesting artists presenting as well. Her hours are not set in stone but I think you can especially count her as open on the weekends. Best way to know is to give her a phone call. She does a lot of art work in the shop itself since it's also her studio. Crow's Nest is what you would expect to see in a crows nest, full of sparkly, unique treasures and other delights. Toledo is not that far from other towns nearby like Newport. The town is picking up on some momentum too but still a work in progress.

I absolutely love blown glass and I've collected many through the years. This blue and white one just spoke to me. The colors are gorgeous. The nice lady who was working was in the middle of a glass blowing class orientation but she stopped to ring up my purchase and told me that if I needed anything else to email and she could send pictures. I plan on returning to Newport as soon as possible and this cute store will definitely be on my list. They had matching ornaments that I initially missed, but I'll check those out on my next visit!

Danced to Queen (well I did) and explained who Billy Joel, Steve Perry and other by-gones were to my teen because the radio was rolling out the hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s. It was a GREAT way to spend a vacation day. No beverages or food and not a very walkable local, so know that.
