My wife read this article in the AAA magazine about road trips in the Ozarks and being a good sport, I signed on. This was one of her high light destinations in the trip and initially I was a little worried about the "cabins" they have for rent. I should not have been, very modern, lots of hot water, very clean. On the cabin downside is very slow WIFI and oddly enough not a table in sight either inside or on the small very nice decks. The folk art center craft village which is adjacent has a series of small buildings with different artisans in them, blacksmith, candlemaker, wood worker well you get the drift. Prices were good considering the hand made aspect of everything being sold there. Worth the visit if you like this kind of experience. read more

Highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area. We went on an overcast day during Covid. Masks required and limited people in each exhibit. Place is great, learned so much from the different individuals that run each exhibit. Lots of amazing artists that are great to talk to. Loads of fun to be had. read more

We went here to see what it was all about. There was nothing going on during the week as everything is geared for the weekend as this is when the local craft folks come out and display their works. It looks like a really fun place and experience. We will plan to return. read more

Craft village was neat, didn't have time to check out the music. Wood working & copper were our favorites.

Very interesting park. Old cabin showed life a century (or more) ago. Artisans were demonstrating their crafts. We particularly enjoyed the copper smith who made jewelry and fired it with a torch to change the colors. The music was also very enjoyable. Excellent gift options. Lots of stairs leading to the park but there is a shuttle at the bottom of the mountain. read more

A beautiful slice of life preserved in time due in no small part to the diligence of the people who work here to keep the traditions alive. My partner and I were lucky enough to experience many of the shops throughout the Ozark Folk Center - the Chandlery and Pottery shop stuck out to us the most. Special shout-out to the Glover family who dutifully run the Chandlery with efficiency, kindness, and unparalleled professionalism, day in and day out! I often went the craft village of the folk center as a child and recently returned to share the experience with my husband and kids. It was such a wonderful day of learning about many traditional crafts and there were several hands-on opportunities as well. My kids got to dip candles, throw small pots on a pottery wheel, and make corn husk dolls in addition to seeing skillful crafts workers demonstrate their art. We also stayed in the cabins and it was blissful! Gorgeous surroundings, spotlessly clean, reliable wifi, and extremely comfortable beds. I'm so grateful we made the trip and that my kids were able to experience the magic I remember from my childhood. read more

We had a great time at the Pottery Shop and Chandlery! We learned how to make soap and dip candles.

I hate to give a bad review because we loved the Folk Center with all the arts and crafts, loved the shows and eating at the Skillet. I'd like to give them all a "5 Star" rating, but we spent two nights in Cabin #130. After the first night I had bug bites on my inner thighs above the knee. Then the bites got bigger and began to itch. My husband and daughter noticed bites too so we looked them up on her cellphone and found that they were bed bug bites! By then it was too late to leave and drive home so we stayed until morning. I had over 34 bites from my shins to my waist. The others had 17-19 bites each. All our clothes had to be boiled when we got home. read more

A wonderful place in a wonderful town. There's the music - repeat performance by the musician(s) of the day, during the daytime. And a concert at night, Thursdays thru Sundays. And special performances now and then. We didn't go into the craft area, so I can't address that part of their offerings. But there are a lot of crafts scheduled plus the occasional specific workshop. And there's the Skillet Restaurant which I would highly recommend. Trails lead through the fence from the Ozark RV Park, so if you stay there you can just walk through the gate into the State Park. read more

It's kind of like a miniature version of Silver Dollar City, sans the rides and all the junk food stands. There are several kinds of crafts of display, such as the usual candle making, pottery, blacksmith, weaving, quilting, wood working, and etc., as well as live folk music throughout the day. This is an Arkansas State Park and run by the state. Admission is something like $10 per person, but the day I went it was a "free day", so didn't have to pay. The place was pretty much deserted while I was there. There were only a hand full of people walking around. There's a smokehouse BBQ stand for sandwiches, and there's the Skillet Restaurant if you want a sit down meal. If you like to watch all the crafts being performed and look at everything closely, I'd plan on 2 or 3 hours. If you're just interesting in walking through it a couple of times without going into the shops, then an hour will do you. It's only open seasonally beginning in mid April. The web site doesn't specify this however. read more

Our family was very disappointed. We drove over and hour to visit Mountain View and the Folk Center after reading some positive reviews. Really hoped to catch some of the touted ozark folk music playing. Perhaps because we came on a weekday, but there was absolutely nothing going on. The musicians had left right about the time we arrived, and about half the shops were closed. It was certainly not worth a $12 entry fee. We were also very disappointed in the meal we had at the Skillet restaurant. :/ read more

Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to walk through this delightful place. The crafters are proud of their work and take time to give you the history of their specialty, and in some instances you can get hands-on experience. It's educational and interesting and our entire family really enjoyed it. We also stayed in the cabins and they were excellent - more like glamping. Would highly recommend both experiences to everyone! read more

We had a wonderful time exploring the Ozark Folk Center. Enjoyed the Bluegrass Gospel Concert. A fun and educational place to visit.

This is a wonderful place to casually spend the day. Being able to see all the different crafts done by real people first hand is great, especially if you have kids. The craft people are great and pleasantly interact with visitors. I can't imagine giving it less than 5 stars. The old ways will be kept alive as long a fine places like this keep going. They also have folk groups playing in the midst of all the little cabins. What a blast. The only down side is it seems like a bit steep of an entry fee, so the first weekend opening date is very appealing since entry is free. read more

I was a little skeptical before I came, but was so impressed once I arrived. This isn't just a "show" like many festivals I've been to; these are people are real craftsmen/women who really know their stuff. The grounds, buildings, and gardens are so pretty, and the products they produce delightful! Be sure to allot at least 3 - 4 hours if you want to see everything and get to talk to the workers. read more

What a sweet way to get in touch with the old folk traditions of craft making! I've been to Silver Dollar City outside Branson, and it's okay, but the spirit of the Ozark Folk Center is just so pure and wonderful. In keeping with the Mountain View experience, this place is not too commercial. Do yourself a favor and buy the combo ticket so you can also take in the show in the lovely auditorium, which is live streamed on the web via Ozark Highlands Radio. The demonstrators and the crafts themselves can be uneven. Small wonder, Mountain View is not exactly on the beaten track, and it can't be easy to find and retain folks with excellent knowledge and skills. That said, the pottery place and the fiber spinning operation are top notch. I always learn so much from both of them. If you buy a combo ticket after 3 p.m. you can take in the show that evening and then come back in the morning to continue poking about in the main part of the Folk Center. There are little octagonal buildings that are cozy and spacious and will keep you out of the rain if need be. There's a great deal to do in and around Mountain View, more than initially meets the eye--abundant swimming holes on Sylamore Creek, the Ozark Folk Center, live folk music on the square, Blanchard Springs Cavern, etc. If you like affordable, old-fashion fun, this is your place! It is authentic and full of grace and sweeteness. You do have to calibrate your expectations, but give them credit, folks, it ain't Nashville or Branson. It's just a little place back in the hills where time flows at a traditional pace. Great place for a family vacation. It will delight you! They deserve your support for the efforts they put forth. I consider Mountain View a kind of "axis mundi" one of those rare places on the Earth with a vibe that is truly healing and restorative. My family had a wonderful time at the folk center. Everyone was so friendly and anxious to show you their crafts. My six and eight year olds absolutely loved it. The lady helping the make dolls was super fun and sweet. Our favorite things were the couple in the copper shop, the doll shop, the printing shop, and the candle shop. The candle lady was very helpful and fun to visit with. read more
