At the end of the road in Bluff, you'll find a parking lot and trailhead for hiking. If you're feeling hungry look behind you for Oyster Cove, a restaurant overlooking the ocean and islands that dot the bay. We were here on a cold rainy day, and my other half was in need of some hot cocoa. The restaurant was mostly empty at that time of the day, but the staff were happy to make us hot drinks while we enjoyed the climate controlled dining room and beautiful view outside. Their menu looked good, but we weren't here to eat. The restrooms were very clean. This is definitely a place for travelers as you can't drive farther south than Bluff. It's worth a stop! read more

hasn't been reviewed on YELP for 4 years so here we go - OUR TAKE from last week- meh- plus a tad- maybe on a good day- Our 1st visit to venerable restaurant in NZ's southerly city,Bluff. A single lonely tiny piece of battered blue cod with a few tired chips and very small salad serve - store bought - not even in house condiments were an embarrasment in the quality stakes at this price point- which was sky high, and the MINISCULE amount on the plate surprised - I blinked when it was delivered quickly and efficiently to our table in less than 15mins. peut etre une amuse bouche? no!! it's the MAIN ! quelle surprise ! Bog standard ambience - tired cafe less than comfy- lovely view out the window notwithstanding- Our compliments to front of house staff with fabulous cheery attitudes and hard working too- hats off- you two made our day- New ownership recently, we believe are enjoying the formerly great reputation 'Oyster Cove' once had - real Kiwi tucker generous serve of local quality seafood (Kai moana). Based on our experience last week- we would not pay that kind of $ for a repeat experience of what it is NOW. For the record- the small battered blue cod was good - crispy - fresh albeit hors d'ouvre sized. 40 bucks plus- per person- drinks list waaay over reasonable restaurant mark ups- 20 buck wines @90 = extracting the Michael, innit? FIRE YOUR CHEF!!! (If I could take away stars I would) Absolutely the worst experience you can imagine. We booked a few months out for New Years Eve thinking it would be a really beautiful way to wrap up 2022 - a gorgeous view, amazing seafood.....boy were we wrong! I worked hard to find a time that would work for them that we could fit into our busy day and road trip. We arrived at 6.30pm and took 4 min to find parking in their extremely awkward and limited parking lot. When we walked in the staff started commenting about how they would have to seat us as we were "only 5 min late". We had a lovely table and received the menu, quickly selected the seafood platter and were told sorry it's been a very busy day, they didnt order enough food and we're sold out of most things. OK, what can we have? Let me check....fish and chips (I don't eat fish only shellfish so this was not an option for me and there was no flexibility on this). That was the only option available which was a big no from me. In the end they decided to let us order an eton mess and a fish and chips with no cajun seasoning. They delivered the dessert well after 20 min and the chips well after another 20 min. Staff ignored us and didn't refill our drinks. When the food came the chips were covered in cajun seasoning so they agreed to give us a side of chips without cajun (we don't like spicy flavours) but covered in cracked pepper. Food was OK, ice cream in the dessert was melted because we wanted to eat together like a normal meal. When the manager was settling the bill at the end (we were given free drinks and dessert) she apologised for the whole thing stating that the chef had decided that he wanted to go home and had told the staff not to let us have a table because we were 4 min late and refused to cook any of the food they had except fish and chips. They didn't have our contact details with the booking so they couldn't call us to arrange an early seating either. So not only did they dishonour our booking, all of the staff lied to us throughout the entire evening and we ended up with a horrible experience to wrap up 2022 and ended up eating McDonalds afterwards. Needless to say we ended up with a free meal and the manager was lovely and very apologetic but personally I would never go there again until that chef is given the heave ho that he deserves. There were multiple tables there, many hadn't been served until right before we received our meal either and our table did not cause him to leave any later than anyone else there. Looks quite touristy, and it is, but the foods really good and the view is amazing. We had the Stewart Island salmon, the seafood pot, and the blue cod butties. All were excellent. Seafood want to salty. Cod had anice subtle tartare sauce and combination kumara and potato fries. Salmon seasoning was perfect. Cooked just right, not over cooked. Coffee was excellent. They were very accommodating of odd requests. read more

The End of the Road in Bluff...Killer views and even better food. The Clams with coconut and the Seafood Chowder were tasty n filling...Exactly what we want out of a restaurant in Bluff...Sadly the Blue Oysters were out of season. read more

I really looked forward to eating a great seafood meal, especially because I love oysters and I though what beter place than the Oyster cove! I couldn't be more wrong... The entrees where oké (my boyfriends chowder was way better than my recommended grilled OysterS, but okay). As main we had the seafood platter to share with some chips on the side. It was horrible. Half of it was deep fried, more like very expensive fish and chips (by the way never seen any of the side chips we ordered!) and the other half was cold. Also we long finished our first drink and wanted to order another. When finally someone came to our table to ask us if everything was fine, (not even asking if we wanted another drink..) we ask him if the food was supposed to be cold. Is answer was that the mussels were steamed en the salmon was pan-fried... Whitch didn't make sense! I said try the mussel, it tastes really bad. He refused but he would give us some new mussels/salmon. When they were brought about 10 min later they were warm, but barely. Also some of the mussels smelled weird, little bit fishy smelly. So we were already disappointed, then we got the bill. 150 $ was way to much for the quallity of the food, but we paid and were about to leave. (chips were not on the bill or ever mentioned again) Then the waiter comes back and says I'm sorry I forgot to put your second drinks on the bill, you'll need to pay another 18$. I was flabbergasted.
