My husband has been going to this place since before it was Oye Amigo's. He introduced me to this amazing food 30+ years ago and we love the food. Not only is the food good, but the service is as well. We have never been disappointed. In fact, we have celebrated many anniversary dinners here. Revolting food with a smile: beginning with a free plate of dark, unpleasant samples of their fare, this economical and cheery but creepily unlit dining room serves neither good nor Mexican food. Tamales are tiny and deformed like wrinkly fingers; spicy gravy an unearthly sludge; no safe haven even in the tortillas, which drip with a buttery oil. The staff are delightful. read more

It is NOT a fancy place...truly just a hole in the wall, but u can't beat the price for the amount of food u get. I have it on good authority that area Battle Creek firefighters come all the way to Marshall for their Mexican food! "As for my view of the food, it is just wonderful and reminiscent of the great side street vendors whose food was made with home farm products like real lard and local chile's. This is an acquired taste of the old school home style Mexican cuisine. You either totally love it, or totally hate it. We love it. Well worth the try. We drive from Texas to MI for this place! I have been going since it was Emilio's and I was about 5 years old! LOVE the family and the dinner #1 is the best! The gravy is miracle sauce I swear! When I was pregnant for my 5th we lived in NC and I was more sick than I had been with my others and we went to Mi and to Oye's and I'm not lying, I was not sick when I ate there and for the weeks after eating leftovers with that gravy. We don't get the taco's because we don't like the meat mix, but everyone has their own taste. Everything else is amazing and they are the best folks around!! Although the decor is not a five-star restaurant quality, the food is superbly unique. This is not taco-bell, "american" mexican, this is authentic mexican. The food is spicy and rich in flavor, which I suppose some may say is a little overwhelming. However, you do not have to add the gravy ( But I highly recommend you do), in which case it is only mildly spicy. I have only been there a few times and order the same; cheese enchilada, however my fiance has been going there since he was a child and it is a stop we ALWAYS have to make. Dear Jesus, if only I had read them before subjecting my daughter and myself to the worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life. My daughter said, "the spiciest thing in the whole restaurant were the decorations." this was meant as a joke in reference to the hanging dried peppers. I can wholeheartedly concur with all of the previous reviews. I will however add the following. You know there is something wrong when the waitress starts by asking, "have you eaten here before? You know they mix the beef with mashed potatoes?" Secondly, I think a cheese enchilada is pretty hard to screw up. Beyond putting cheese in a tortilla the only requirement is to melt it! Apparently that was too difficult. A nice shrine to the previous owner is on the wall in prominent display. Apparently, he took all his recipes to the grave. They did provide chips only because I ordered the nachos (WHAT? Wo gets a side of chips with nachos?) but the only salsa that came with it was a bland V8 juice with giant chunks of onions and peppers that they did not bother to chop up. They also provided what looked to be a specimen jar with green chiles in it, but I wasn't going near that thing. Terrible lighting and some of the worst prices I have ever seen in a little place like that. $11 dollars for nachos is way too much. Thank God I didn't take the butter that came with the flour tortillas on the side. As the other reviewer mentioned, they drown it in butter to the point where it looks like a strange set of flapjacks at the Waffle House. The waitress was nice. Yelp! Needs to change its policy so that I can give this place a negative star rating since they owe me my time and money back. read more

We love Oye Amigo's! I'm not so fond of the meat/ potato mixture, but love everything else, and their gravy and butter tortillas can't be beat! Best place to go on a cold or rainy night, although I could eat it everyday! If only they served alcohol! Lol read more

I grew up in Chula Vista CA, south of San Diego. We could see Tijuana from our front yard. I've been eating Mexican food since 1960 in the U.S. and in Mexico and am familiar with several of the regional variations. This may be a regional variant of Mexican cuisine but not a good one. I stopped for lunch and it was awful. Everything tasted as though the cook overdid it with cumin or something like that. First of all, no chips and salsa. Really? I had a combo plate with a cheese and onion enchilada, a beef taco, beans and rice. The rice was inedible. The enchilada was just a flour tortilla with grated cheese, not even partly melted, and a few random pieces of onion. Everything had a thick cover of grated cheddar along with a generous coating of lettuce. By the time I found the taco under all the other stuff, the taco shell was falling apart and had to be eaten with a fork. And the beef! The seasoning was off and it tasted bad. It was nice to get warm tortillas but they were smothered in way too much butter. They were greasy. To add insult to injury, this mess cost $11. That's a little too pricey for what you get. Service was OK but nothing to brag about. The decor sucks. Old, tired beige wallpaper, dark wood "paneling" that was scratched and worn, a few Mexican knick-knacks here and there, generic tables and chairs and a sad carpet. It would take about 20 minutes to get everything Mexican out of the place at which point it would look like any standard greasy spoon diner. Part of the whole thing in going to a Mexican restaurant is for the atmosphere, the color. And, yes, I realize this is a little hole in the wall but I've been to dozens of little hole in the wall Mexican places in California, Mexico, Colorado, Michigan, Utah and so on. They were all superior to this joint. While Los Tequilas in Coldwater may not be the epitome of Mexican cuisine, the food is good, as is the service, and the prices are far more reasonable. You can get a similar combo with meat in the enchilada for $7-$8. Anyone who thinks this is "real" Mexican food has never had real Mexican food. read more

GUH-ROSS. We will NEVER eat there again. My husband and I stopped in for lunch and it was sooo disgusting. My husband can eat just about anything, and even he was having trouble choking it down. Neither of us even came CLOSE to finishing our meals. Complete waste of money and time. The only fresh thing was the lettuce, and I can buy my own head of iceburg at the grocery store. Nasty atmosphere... looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years... decades... and the food was just absolutely terrible. I'd eat at Taco Bell happily, before I'd eat here again. The refried beans were kinda soupy and sticky, the enchilada was gluey and undefinable... it was just wretched. The staff was indifferent, as if they just couldn't be bothered to give a damn, and the cooks were just kids in the back, goofing off. I would LOVE to see Gordon Ramsey walk into this place for Kitchen Nightmares! I would not send anyone to eat there, ever. read more

This was the worst food I've ever had to pay for. As everyone else says, they offer samples. I believe they do so, becasue if you are familiar with what real Mexican food should taste like, you need to know ahead of time not to expect REAL Mexican food. My whole family...6 of us hated it. The served warm tortillas with the meal which were drowning in melted margarine. It was really gross, and cost us over $70. We got home and had to fight with eachother to get into the bathroom. This restaurant serves very similar food to a Battle Creek institution called Emilio's. Loved Emilio's food, but when I went to Mexico, I never had anything similar, so I wondered if it was exactly 'Mexican' food. After trying some recipes at a blog called 'Homesick Texan', I realized that Emilio's and Oye Amigos don't serve Mexican food, they serve Tex-Mex food. The Tex-Mex cheese enchiladas with chile gravy on the blog are almost an exact replica of Emilio's enchiladas and gravy. Whole other cuisine from Tijuana or Mexican food in California. Developed by the Mexican-Americans in Texas. It may not be good to you, but to a whole bunch of other people it is! read more

OH MY GOD~ This is the best place to eat anywhere in SW Michigan. My family will travel about 35 minutes to eat hear, but since gas prices have gone up our trips to this place has gone down. WE have both begged to allow them to branch into either Battle Creek or somewhere's closer to us but we were rejected. The last two times we have been there, the food has decreased in taste. Today it was bland, not spice no kick, we were used to it having a bit of a bite. Best Mexican restaurant ever! Been going here for years, ever since my Grandparents brought me here as a child. Staff is friendly and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Food is reasonably priced. If you go away hungry, you've got a problem. Love the gravy! read more
