I admit I am terrible about bike maintenance. What I mean is that I never maintain my bike until something breaks. On this occasion, though, I broke character and figured that since I'm not riding my old Santa Cruz Heckler in winter I may as well have it overhauled. I bought the bike new in 2008 or thereabouts and this is the first service it has ever had. The folks at Owenhouse braced me for the cost and came in a bit under budget. The work seems to have been done properly (I won't know for sure until I get the bike out for a longer ride) and the communication was excellent. It's nice to have so many outdoor sports related shops in town and Owenhouse is not only centrally located downtown, they seem to be good people who know their business. read more

Great bike but customer service needs works. Rented bike for a day at 4pm and was told by the bike tech three times we could bring bike back by 5pm next day. Next morning at 8am we got a call saying we had to return the bike or be charge another day. We retuned the bike immediately and complained. We were asked several times who rented us the bike (sorry not a detail we keep track of! ) as if knowing who rented us the bike would solve the problem or make up for the inconvenience. What the tech who called us at 8 am and who checked in the bike should have done is asked us "how can I make this right?" Spent 100 bucks to rent two bikes for "a day" but the value of the experience was -20 bucks. Update: changed star from 1 to 4. Eric the owner called us a couple of hours to apologize and offer us a free one day bike rental. read more

Wow What a fantastic shop! I rent bikes all over the world and they are top shelf. Great road bike pretty reasonable price for a pretty top end machine. Forgot my helmet they had one left my water bottle they had one. Rented a road bike one day was perfect. Rented mountain bike it was great. Isabel got me all set up and the other two folks were fantastic. My one stop shop when I come to Bozeman. Most bike shops do t have this top shelf service as well as great product and competitive pricing. Both bike were very well maintained not always the case with rentals. The expertise on the mountain bike was very good and both bike were very comfortable. Exceeded my every expectation. Road bikes had full repair kit as well. You won't be disappointed these folks know bikes AND customer service. read more

I was on a road trip up Wyoming and Montana and had some brake issues on my mountain bike. I called and spoke to Anna. She offered some tips and tricks on the phone and said they'd be happy to look at it if those didn't work. I brought my bike in and Anna quickly took a look at it, fixed it right away with the proper parts (pads). The staff here were awesome! To Anna's managers... GIVE THIS WOMAN A RAISE and a HIGH FIVE!! At the recommendation of a friend, I was told Owenhouse did great work and I should bring my bike to them. I'm a college student, not made of money, and was looking for someone to work on my bike while I was doing school work. Brought what was once a top of the line downhill mountain bike to them for some basic maintenance- brake bleed and a chain alignment. Got talked into some brake pads and was quoted $15/set for some brake pads- I incorrectly assumed that they were buying them at some kind of dealer/wholesaler price from Magura, and passing the discount to me. I was called mid way through and told one of the gears on the cassette was bent- and for an extra $50 they would fix it for me. I told them not to worry about it, it was something I would fix myself (And, hadn't ever noticed previously). When I came to pick the bike up, it turns out that the brake pads had gone from $15/set to $40/set- No call to ask me if I was OK with the price change. I looked up (word-for-word) on Amazon to figure out what other people were selling them for -- $26/set, FROM MAGURA, not knock-offs... Turned a $100 maintenance into $150+ maintenance. Upon getting the bike back, I couldn't notice any wave or bend in any of the gears. I am not certain if the tech fixed this free of cost, or if it was simply a request for another $50. I called the next day to ask if they would price-match, something that was outright refused. I was told that the $15 quote was an error from one of the sales people who wasn't familiar with Magura brakes. Then, I was referred to the Tech who worked on my bike (And did WONDERFUL work!), who was NOT the person who ordered the parts, and he offered to knock some of his labor off the price to compensate me, rather than management offering to price-match. While I might be willing to take my bike there again, I will either be buying my own parts and bringing them with me for Owenhouse to install, or I will instead be taking my bike elsewhere. Not cool to get quoted ~$100 and show up after almost two weeks(they had a lot of bikes to work on) to find that it's now $150 + change, an outright refusal to price-match, and that the tech who did amazing work was the only guy who cared and tried to make it right, I presume by taking money out of his own pocket to keep a customer. It's been four years since my last Owenhouse review and after our experience yesterday, I had to get a new one up. Four years later and these guys are still the best in the business. Tom is a legend. Sofie is a breath of fresh air and stellar addition to the service team. Can't say enough positive things about how professional these folks are. This isn't your bro/brah shop (go down the street for that); this is your pro bike shop. Sofie was top-shelf today and made the test ride and bike selection process fun and enjoyable for my wife (and myself). Sofie knows her stuff and brings such a positive energy to the shop. My wife and I both left the Owenhouse today saying, "God, Sofie is great." We need more 'Sofie's' in bike world and certainly in bike shops (hell, we just need more Tom's and Sofie's in the world period). And I have no doubt that Tom (shop manager) is the best in the business as far as professionalism, getting things done, taking care of his crew and clients and just being someone you want to work with. Not to mention, bikes are seriously hard to come by these days. Visit any bike shop in this era of pandemic bike shopping and the inventory is almost nonexistent, but not Owenhouse, not with Tom as shop manager. After emailing with Tom (nobody is more professional and quicker to respond than him) he said to come on down to test ride a couple of the bikes I was considering for my wife. First off, I was surprised they had any bikes to test ride, and second, I was stunned to see how relatively stacked their inventory was. With Rocky Mountain, Giant/Liv, Santa Cruz/Juliana, Ibis, the selection doesn't get much better. This is your one stop family shop from kiddo (my 12-year old daughter) to dad (my 69-year-old pops), and my wife and I ripping in-between. If the experience and people matter (which we rank high on the list), I can't say enough about the Tom and Sofie experience at Owenhouse. Buying a bike these days is a big deal, they're not cheap, so don't settle for bros and brahs when you can talk bikes (and life) with the likes of Tom and Sofie. That's a wrap! read more

Wanted to ship a bike out of town. Paid 50$ for them to box it. The bike was picked up rode around the western states till it went back to Bozeman. Have called several times and no one wants to help find it . Especially bad attitude from DAN. His approach to customer service is to hang up the phone rather than discuss the problem. Only go here if you can afford one of their expensive bikes. I took my low end (brand new) Schwinn to get a tune-up because the tires weren't true and were rubbing on the frame and was told by an older employee, "What can you expect from a low end bike?". Once it was tuned up it wasn't shifting correctly so I brought it in again to be looked at. This time I was met with equal disdain and the same person who made the previous comment essentially told the mechanic to stop working on my bike "because it wasn't worth it." It still wasn't shifting properly so I took it to another bike shop and they immediately told me the derailleur needed to be adjusted and the chain had a frozen link. And this was after a $70 tune-up from Owenhouse. It now shifts just fine. Moral of the story is don't take your bike to Owenhouse unless you have lots of money to spend. I was highly insulted by the elitist attitude of this one mechanic, which colored my entire experience. It's worth noting that my interactions with other mechanics were fine, but needless to say I won't be going back. read more

Super friendly and knowledgeable guys were working when I showed up hoping to put my bike back together. They let me use a stand, tools, some grease and answered all my questions about aligning brake pads...and then when my brakes still wouldn't be quiet they adjusted them for me. They eave prevented me from making an unnecessary purchase of new brake pads. Great shop!! read more

These guys are the BEST I took in my son's bike for an "emergency" brake repair job. They not only worked me in on the spot, but fixed the issue in less than 15 minutes, and DIDN'T CHARGE ME A THING!! This is why I'll always come back to locally-owned businesses like these. Their products and services might not always be as cheap as the 'big-name' corporate store, but their customer service, products and professionalism is PRICELESS! read more

Thought this was an awesome place to rent a few mountain bikes for me and my out of town family. After 4 days of fun on the 4 bikes, we brought them back with (what I would call) daily wear and tear. I mean, they're mountain bikes right? Meant for the great outdoors and some off-road exploring. Owenhouse employees inspected them as though we were expected to ride the bikes inside the house with bubble wrap. Tiny dings from gravel roads and scratches caused by the transport apparatus we bought from them were enough to charge us for "all the damage we caused". We were told that the bikes were thoroughly appraised before we took them and they would know if the scratches were new or not - yet, they accused us of taking the bikes to Big Sky and using a life to transport them up the mountain (due to the zip ties that were left from the previous renters). Quite a thorough inspection on their part, huh? After spending $50/day per bike, $5/day per helmet and $20/day per transport capabilities, we are now expected to cover all these "damages". If you rent from these folks please be prepared for burn a pretty hole in your pocket! read more
