Be super careful about getting a quote in writing. We had Owens come out and give us a price on some work we needed. He gave a verbal estimate of $800-$1000. When he completed the work, he said nothing to us before leaving but then text us a invoice for over $1800!!! More than 80% higher than the high end of his quote and not a word about it before hand. His reasoning when asked was that the parts were more expensive than he thought. There was no parts other than a few couplings, a 2ft piece of copper and some PEK line. When other plumbers would have taken the easy route and remove tile to replace a bath valve, Evan took the time and used his skill to work within the existing access - so I could use the intended trim plate and not require the dreaded "retrofit" oval shield that we all know what it's hiding. Evan is reliable, explains what he is doing, and does solid work. He has done a couple of jobs for us and we have been very satisfied. He learned how to install the Phyn Plus smart water device. Mr. Owen lives in our neighborhood and had done a few small plumbing jobs for us, when we needed a slightly bigger job done. My husband called and made an appointment for Evan to come on Tuesday. Well, he didn't come, but we could see he wasn't home, so we assumed he had a big job that took longer than expected. We made another appointment for Thursday, same thing happened. We rescheduled for Friday, and when he didn't show again we didn't call and reschedule. Maybe he thinks that because we are neighbors, we're a sure thing and he should put other jobs first, or because we are older that we have nothing better to do than to wait for him to show up, but neither is true. My basement was flooded with at least 12 inches of water because my sump pump had failed. My neighbor called her plumber and he was there within an hour. That was Even Owen of Owen Plumbing. He installed a new pump with an alarm so you know if the pump goes bad as well as hooked up a second pump for back up. He was extremely pleasant to work with and very professional. THIS WAS A BIG DIRTY JOB that took more than one day. But, he always wore a smile. It was not a cheap fix but I am not sure it would have been otherwise with anyone else. Back in June 2018 my water heater broke and water leaked into my living room in the middle of the night. So in the morning I called Owen Plumbing. I called and left a voicemail. Was recommended to my wife. Showed up and Attitude was poor towards my wife. Over charged her to replace water heater . told her she didn't need a permit. Reused the old wood stand that was falling apart. Used the original single strap which was the 2 rusty band iron , used aluminum tape which is illegal instead of self tappers like your supposed to use , then charged her $80 to disposal of old tank , where the city would of came and picked it up for free , and when i called his attitude was as if talking to a druggie , no remorse , for being a upset customer, i just hung up and moved on, i took the water heater he installed and got from tw Smith and put it aside for an extra.. Then hired Dempster Plumbing who did it correctly permit inspection grounded strapped with the Newsstand new flu no aluminum tape and 10 gallons more so 50 gallon and not 40 gallon for just a couple more bucks than what he charged never call him again and Lessons Learned on my wife Owen Plumbing is a rip off. Only thing good came out of it is an extra water heater i now have... Im now having Dempster Plumbing give me a new water service repipe a new gas line and the blueprints to my new house. read more
