We attended a wedding reception at the Penthouse at Riverside Wharf in downtown Miami and had a…read morewonderful time. This is a great event venue mainly for a couple reasons: 1. It has excellent elevated views of the Miami skyline to the east and the Miami River, boats, and the W Flagler St Drawbridge (historical landmark, built in 1938) to the west. I believe the penthouse is located on the 10th floor of a relatively new building. 2. The venue is modern and versatile. The inside spaces (including restrooms) had a clean, updated look. For this event, there were multiple bars and food stations set up both indoors and outdoors. The dance floor was outside. The combination of string lights, rooftop patio decor, and the city skyline was beautiful. There was only one elevator to get everyone up and down, so there was a bottleneck there. They brought in a fire dancer to perform outside on the rooftop, which was really cool.

There's limited street parking, but there's an adjacent parking lot. I'd recommend using a valet service if you are hosting an event here. I absolutely loved the views here, which is why this place gets 5 stars!

In true SoFla fashion you have to be mindful of the weather if you're planning an event here. Thankfully, there is the indoor lounge and a covered area in the middle to allow guests to eat, drink and mingle. I'm unsure if the venue here only offers a certain caterer, so in our case the food was okay but not something to really write home about as they were small bites. Overall a cute place to hold an event and especially a wedding if one is looking for an intimate venue.

However, there were some hiccups with the food and portions. The service was good. They always stayed on top of refills and ensured we had everything we needed. I ordered the charcoal grilled octopus appetizer and the grilled lamb chops with two sides. The food was delicious. However, It's a little embarrassing to charge 28 dollars for 3 small tentacles of an octopus one being so tiny, that it was burnt to crisp. Second, grilled lamp chops for $47 with no sides? Ordering the sides separately, the exotic wild mushrooms for $16 were salty. Creamy mashed potatoes $14 were delicious. So, essentially a complete dish was $77. My business partner's short rib was short on the rib but still tasted good. You're not even a one Michelin-star restaurant to command these prices for the portion. I do not mind paying more but not for these portion sizes, $105 without the cocktail, no thank you. The fine dining experience is overrated in today's market. Your staff, ambiance, and flavor of the food, saved this review. One and done.

On further research it turns out this place is relatively new, see what I found out on the good old net - Originally constructed in 2003, the Cruz Building in Coconut Grove recently underwent some restoration work to its interior. The facade resembles a French row house, with natural keystone and travertine columns, iron balconies, authentic gas-flame lanterns, and Gothic stone sculptures. A good portion of the building's contents are architectural European and French New Orleans antiques. In my defense they do feature antiques inside, (pheww, I have a reputation to defend here!!!)
