After EIGHT MONTHS of stringing me along, making plans to build me a house - then at the last minute, he broke our oral agreement and left me high and dry! Due to being elderly and with health issues, I am forced to downsize from my present situation which I am no longer able to take care of. Mr. Hall and I started discussing building me a small house in August, 2017. Since he is only able to build one house at a time, I had to wait until another house was completed. He took me to 2 lots that he had just purchased and told me he wanted me to have first choice. By the time the other house was finished, Winter was approaching and we mutually decided to wait until Spring 2018 to start mine. During the following months, we exchanged numerous e-mails, phone conversations, and even had TWO long meetings at my home discussing details. He likes to do the same house on a slab because it's easier. I hated that plan and I wanted a small, ranch style house with a crawl space. . When Spring came and it was finally time to start my house, he presented me with a very vague and generic contract which didn't contain pertinent information! I mentioned that I wanted to take the contract to an attorney to make sure all important information was included. PRIOR TO THE CONTRACT ISSUE, THERE HAD BEEN NO MENTION WHATSOEVER OF NOT BUILDING THE HOUSE! After that, I didn't hear from him for nearly 2 weeks. Then on April 3, 2018, I received an e-mail from him that he had changed his mind and was NOT going to build me a house! He didn't even have the decency to discuss it to my face! He came up with a lot of ridiculous excuses - like building what I want is too stressful on him. Really!?! If he can't build a simple one-level rancher, he should not be allowed to have a contractor's license! Also, he said if something happened to me (referring to my age and health) he would be stuck with a house. I call that plain DISCRIMINATION!!! Nothing is different in my life now than before he wasted 8 months deceiving me! He isn't even a full time builder! He has a good job in Oak Ridge and building is just a part time side thing, so he isn't even at the job site during the day! I recommend dealing with a full time EXPERIENCED contractor and not a part time WANNABEE!
