Beware of Geaage Door Co. of Norwich. My garage door opener was working fine. It just didn't open all the way up. It was functional, as it opened about six and a half feet. It had been working like that for about four months. I called Overhead Door to repair it. In my call, they said they would grease and adjust it for one hundred and sixty dollars. I opened the serviceman using the door he was supposed to fix. Within a few minutes of adjusting, the door didn't work, and he said I needed a new opener, which would cost about five hundred dollars. I asked him to put it back where it was to give me time to think about it; He wouldn't do it. The man left, taking my remote. A few days later, the Co. called and said I needed a new opener for around a thousand dollars. Shocking right? I just got a bill for 223.34$ for materials and labor. I am still determining where that came from. I would happily pay the 160.00$ we agreed on when my door works and my remote is returned. I don't understand how they treat their customers like this and stay in business! read more

Overhead Door of Norwich just repaired our garage door and garage after a car crashed into it and we are extremely happy with their work. Paul contacted us within minutes of our call and came by immediately. He sent Dan out to assess what was needed and we had an estimate in hand to get to the insurance company. Once we had the claim approved, Dan came back and did the repair in the bitter cold; he never stopped for a break all day. He also corrected a couple other things while he was at it. The repair work was flawless and we are happy to know that Overhead Door is not just limited to garage doors. We would highly recommend them and plan to use them again in the near future. BIG RIP-OFF. When called for problem, man named John, WITHOUT coming to the property said I needed a new system (Expensive.) I cancelled the appointment and used another terrific company. Buyer beware! The Norwich, CT franchise of this company will say one thing and do another one. If you ask for a quote, demand it to be in writing, specific and clear of what your are getting. This is not only good practice, but necessary to avoid these kind of problems. The whole experience was wrong from the start, with an estimator that had an attitude and was rude to my spouse. We complained to the manager by phone of this unwarranted behavior by the estimator. The manager reassured us that this was not a common occurrence and "that he {estimator} must have been having a bad day". Latter the manager gave us a quote via phone that seemed fair, although not cheap either. We thought that since Overhead Door installed the door initially, it would be best to use them and they seemed to be a reputable company overall. After the installation, a second charge was done for an additional amount to our credit card. We called the office to ask for an explanation and he pretty much told us that the original estimator have had a bad experience with a a close relative of my spouse; and that was the reason/justification that the estimator was short and rude the first time to my spouse. What was the point of telling us that at that point? Was he trying to aggravate us more after taking more money for no reason? They had our money already. Couldn't the manager had told us this before or at the time we asked for the quote or even before he took our deposit in the first place? Really a bad taste and very lacking on professionalism and human empathy at all! Please do learn from our experience. It will be your word against theirs if you don't. Do not prepay ever or give them your credit card number without a hard quote! It is one of the worse customer service experiences that we have had. Do shop around! There are a lot of other businesses offering the same services as this and they are usually not the lowest bidders either. Most of these companies use third party installers, since they don't have enough work to keep them busy in their payroll full-time; as was in our case during this particular repair with Overhead Door of Norwich. We quoted a repair and ended up with a mismatched colored panel and double the initial cost we had estimated; plus personal verbal abuse to boot! We tried to challenge them through the credit card company but got us rebuffed, because it was their word against ours. They didn't even let us know of the price at the time of installation either, since these were not their employees; but a third party contractor working on their behalf. The strange thing is that 6 years ago we did use them, when we just bought our home, and they gave us a fair price and good service. This last experience is a different story. Caveat emptor! read more
