Coles came highly recommended to us by our contractor, who helped put us in touch and get the ball rolling. They were soooooo responsive! From the nice woman in the office who I talked to a few times (I'm sorry I can't remember her name right now) to Paul who came out right away to take a look around to Ricky who installed our Garaga doors in a day. Garage door operators are like any other machine, after X many years they poop out. For ours, 15 years was the magic number. I called American Excellence at 9 AM and they returned the call just a few hours later. A few hours after that, their technician, Dan, was here checking things out. He got the overhead door to open. He got the overhead door to close, but then it mysteriously opened again for no apparent reason. He worked very hard to figure out what was wrong and ultimately decided the computer board inside the operator assembly was in the process of intermittent failure. Blame it on old age. Swapping it out for a new board was a risky option. So we decided to bite the bullet and go for a full replacement of the overhead operator with a new outdoor panel to open the door with a code you punch in. One interesting thing we learned is that this new generation of door openers doesn't play nice with certain LED lightbulbs. I guess the technologies fight each other. So you'll need an OG incandescent bulb or a certain type of LED.. Shout out to Dan who was super helpful, polite, and had great customer service skills.

Lavallee came out next day and the service man told me that my circuit board was shot , but that they are expensive and the solution is to replace the unit. based on the cost I decided to leave "as is", and would only use the wall mounted switch to open and close the door which is an inconvenience. I will add that the tech was VERY nice. he didn't have all the proper equipment with him so he left and came back. He felt bad he was able to repair the unit after making 2 trips so he said he wouldn't charge me for the service call. A few days later the office called me and said since I didn't buy the new unit I needed to pay for the service call which was $90. makes sense and I paid - even though tech said appointment would be free. I called another firm, Precision Door to come look at the problem and they arrived at the same conclusion - shot circuit board. BUT, they had an external device they connected to my unit that came with a remote and I was back in business in less than an hour for considerably less than what was quoted by Lavallee. Lavallee didn't do anything wrong, per se (except tech saying no charge) - but Precision was more efficient, quicker and less expensive. Sorry guys...
