I was surprised that everywhere on the internet, there were good reviews (this last one on Yelp wasn't there at the time). In addition to the messy situation in handling the health crisis, there are more important things to me. Maybe other small schools with substandard facilities (similar to Bamboo Shoots) also are facing similar problems with COVID19 --- although I am not sure how much you should try to get an admin person as confused as the poor Sylvia. However, not all schools are academically like this one. First of all, nothing too terrifying is going on. This is an average school providing mediocre education. I guess that other schools in the area (especially some underrated public schools) are on par with this one. The problem is that when I was taking my child to this school, I was expecting something better than the level of a bad public school. For instance, if it were comparable to a good public school, we would not be regretting our school choice. I thought this was an environment where my child would be academically challenged; provide the students with something stimulating at least some non-trivial level. That is, a place where 3,4,5-year-old children are treated with the appropriate attention (without exaggeration) and, importantly, not with indifference. These are the educational values that, in my view, should be embraced by a school for this age level. Unfortunately, Bamboo Shoots operates far away from any of these foundational education values. Importantly, all of the above are directly reflected in the child's happiness, intellectual and physical development, and overall growth. Thus, in this sense, Bamboo Shoots is not just academically mediocre, but rather a wrong choice a parent can make. I'm disappointed with this choice because, like every other, my child attends each class at school once (no second try, same as in other important things in life). When we made the school decision, we could have chosen another one from several other schools with a good reputation, such as the Genius Academy in Springfield. In retrospect, I regret not taking my kid somewhere else. You can't do much when it's too late.

The teachers and staff were constantly friendly and reassuring to this nagging first time mother who had a million questions and worries. I felt good leaving my baby with them and knew that she was happy and thriving. She was always happy to go to school and was happy when picked up . I was updated and kept informed about my child's progress in many different forms. I received a daily information sheet when she was young as well as a verbal update about daily life at pick up . As she got older there was a back to school night, organized social events(pre covid) and holiday events for me to be able to be involved as a parent. I was given opportunity's to speak with her teachers with parents teacher conferences twice a year to see how she was doing in more depth also . Everyone was always so nice . Once my child entered public school teachers complemented me on how ready and prepared she was for 1st grade with the knowledge of all the concepts she should have been introduced to. Those comments are what is prompting this review . I couldn't have done it without Bamboo Shoots ! I just Love them and can't say enough to express how much I appreciate the hard work they do for the children daily !

I just bought two lbs of coffee which one if the job trainees happily sold me, it's an amazing program to help place these talented individuals in the work force. I high recommend it and I can't wait to try the coffee!!

This is the camp and after school program I never needed to coerce them to attend. They looked forward to attending and were excited to progress. I loved that I felt they were in good hands. The coaches encouraged control and progressions. The standards for moving to the next level were solid and repeated achievements. The coaches made safety primary while keeping fun on the agenda. Play was a key word and when I would spy on them from a distance, giggle and huge smiles! If the world were perfect, all kids would get to engage with their surroundings in this way. Lucky for us, it is all at our fingertips. And this is why we raise our kids in New York City!

Let me explain the reason to substantiate this warning…read more I frequent the Milbank Park Street in Bloomfield NJ where this daycare transports their little customers [the kids] to play. Last week I witnessed [2] staff members performing the most outrageous acts of physical, emotional, and mental abuse. One staff member [an African American, very skinny young lady who appeared burnt out & ratchet] pulled a little girl [est. 2-4yrs old] off a piece of equipment by 1 fragile arm and proceeded to yell " You know better than to go up there; you are too little so stay off of this". I was appalled by how she manhandled the little toddler and yelled at her. This particular staff member yelled at various kids during the entire outing to the point where other staff just shook their heads obviously disappointed. The second perpetrator [Hispanic, short, stubby young lady] also yelled at kids. However her acts were the reason I had no choice but to take action and report them. A little boy [est. 2-4 yrs. old] had a non-verbal tantrum [he just laid down on the ground during departure]; the staff member angrily picked him up by 1 arm and yelled "Get up off the ground and stop it". The little toddler proceeded to perform the same act again. This time the livid staff member picked the little boy up from the ground by his shirt collar slightly choking him and yelled " Stand up and don't fall down again". His feet left the ground when she did this and that was it for me. Neither child appeared distraught or upset probably because this is the norm for them at Shiloh Academy. They don't know that it is wrong for the staff to treat them less than human. However, I know it is and I did something about it. How could staff members mistreat these toddlers who have barely been on this Earth that long in such an inhumane way? I wouldn't treat my own dog like that let alone someone else's kids. These staff members are being compensated and trusted to protect and care for these children yet they are the people these kids need protection from. What's worse are the child abuse procedures in NJ. I contacted the Child Abuse hotline and answered all their questions just to be told that they will document what I reported but they can't do anything since I didn't provide identifiable information [I provided adequate description of the staff & kids plus I was willing to point them out if needed]. The young lady referred me to licensing where I was cold transferred to a voicemail box. This was too serious for me to leave a message, so I contacted the office of Allison Blake where her secretary directed me to the office of advocacy. I was then advised the same information as the hotline gave me [not enough identifiable info]; I was told to contact licensing again. I finally spoke with Casey who took me seriously and advised an investigator would be sent to the facility or park to observe the staff within 24 hours. I advised her the best way to uncover the truth was to have the investigator just casually sit in the park and observe so the staff would think he/she was just a patron. As mentioned I have small children who cannot fully communicate yet. As caring adults, we have to protect all children and not just our own from any acts of abuse. They are our future and we need them to grow and develop into healthy adults. Childhood abuse can lead to many issues so when you witness it then report it. I am a mandated reporter and I will be the voice of all children. I will follow-up about the investigation and I will post any information. I expressed this to the Director Miss T and she explained that they have no help from the state! They are funded by the parents, so I can understand that. They dont get grants and government money, They NEED it! That is really sad but they had water play activities where the children can run around safely in a closed lot near the church.
