A little timeline of my visits with Dr. Tye Ouzounian; I first saw Dr. Ouzounian in December of 2015 for a second opinion on my right calcaneus (heel) surgery I had in mid 2013 after a 10ft fall through glass that was covered by a rug. I also had several complex gashes to the bone of the front of my right foot which lead to a lot of scar tissue damage and my left foot was bruised up. In 2015, I was still in pain and debating hardware removal. I had hardware removal surgery with Dr. Tye Ouzounian in February 2016. Last time I saw Dr. Tye Ouzounian was end of 2017. He continuously set appointments for every 2 months and a little more consecutively after my surgery in February 2016. Then, once I was able to walk again after over a month of being bedridden (1st surgery was 5 months being bedridden) he made appointments for me to see him every 3 months.
I hate for my relationship with Dr. Ouzounian and his Team to come to where it has but it is a highly unjust story. I trusted the expert. But, the treatment I have received is unjust - and, I feel like I have been mislead by both his office and my attorneys.
Anyway, my attorneys and Dr. Ouzounian advised my visits will be on a lien basis. My fiancé is my witness. Perhaps, that could have been a big part of why I had many unnecessary visits, unnecessary x-rays, and many many untruths in my medical records (I found out in the beginning of 2018 after reading my records - which I was charged a ton for) that he has lied about me advising him not to use my Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO Medical insurance!
He wrote that I said he can use my insurance for surgery at Tarzana Pthe hospital but not for his services. That makes as little sense to me as it does to you all. What makes it worse is that my in-network (which he was) deductible of $3,000 was met! I don't know what the purpose of this is but I have a hunch. I was hurt, shocked and perplexed when I discovered this.
Well, I was getting bills in the mail stating I owe $29,000. And, I was charged $330 for several "No Shows" even though I called on several occasions a day ahead of time if I could not make the drive (knowing I live in Palmdale, have a busted right foot, permanent tailbone damage, depression, PTSD, anxiety, etc.). And, Dr. O demanded I pay him $29k before he would even consider coming to court for my trial. I had zero money at that time.
So, here's my advice - get many opinions before committing to Dr. Ouzounian. If you decide to commit to him;
Make sure you have your insurance details ironed out and in writing. Read all of your medical records with him because he may be writing bogus information that will leave you in a hole. If possible or he allows you to, record every conversation with him and his staff because, I confirmed with someone at his office that she called to confirm my health insurance benefits with BCBS and I confirmed with BCBS as well. Make sure he explains your X-Rays to you even if he declares, "they look good". Don't allow him to take too many X-rays - for your own health and for your own wallet. Last but not least, demand to have your surgery recorded. Record, record, record!
I am 37 now and still in chronic pain after getting the hardware in my right foot removed from my calcaneus by, Dr. Ouzounian.
Good luck to finding a really good doctor for your ortho needs. If you still decide to go with, Dr. O - I hope you have a better experience than I did.
P.S. What is most hurtful is what Dr. Ouzounian said to me on the day he called me about my bill, "You were drunk and fell through a roof deal with it". Unfortunately, the hospital I was taken to after my fall through a rug covered skylight did not take my alcohol blood levels - and I wish they would have. That was the defense's only argument "she was wasted". But, there was no evidence of that. In a 7 hour period I had 2 Blue Moons and a sip of margarita. I was nowhere near drunk or buzzed. That was the most hurtful of all. HE doesn't believe ME after all of this. No empathy, no remorse. It hurts. read more
