Because of the nature of the business, you have to have an appointment, and must be let in by one of the staff. Going up the stairs, you see the attention bro derail in how the place is decorated. Upstairs, we signed in and waited for the person that their appointment was with. That person was awesome they took the time to chat with and explain the process. It really put my friend at ease. I can honestly say if I were going to get something pierced or inked, I'd feel comfortable and confident here.

Things did not go well from the…read morestart as I made an appointment with Lyle who then contacted me to reschedule - twice (both times for personal reasons). I then rescheduled for a 1pm appointment but when I arrived I was told that Lyle was with another client and the work was more intricate than he first thought. I was given the option of having the work done by Nathan - I was sceptical as he was young so I asked if he was sure he could do the work whereupon he showed me several photos on his phone of work he had done previously, most of which appeared to be well done. I wanted two words (the nickname for my daughter ), a four word phrase, two music notes and a small Texas Bluebonnet flower. Nathan said they had tattooed Texas Bluebonnets before so he knew what they were and what they looked like. I showed him a photo of a tattoo of a bluebonnet my daughter had recently had done and which was beautiful. Nathan, told me, after he had finished the tattoo that he had problems with my older skin (I'm 73) - if that was the case he should have stopped at the first sign of a problem so we could discuss how to proceed -- but he didn't. What I ended up with was thick lettering, the one single music more resembling an exercise hand dumbbell and the Texas Bluebonnet looking nothing like a flower, rather it looks like a hairy blue banana which is going a little mouldy along its green centre line. I have been in contact with Stu the owner, who did offer suggestions in the form of more music notes, but the tattoo itself is so ugly that additional work would be like trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. I am now looking at over £1,000 to have the tattoo removed by a well-established dermatology business. As I am a pensioner, this is an extra cost I will have some difficulty paying, especially with today's excessively high cost of living. I suggested to Stu that perhaps I should be reimbursed the amount I paid to have this eyesore tattooed tattooed -- he said I should return to the shop and ask Nathan if he would reimburse the money. I live a considerable distance from Glasgow and with ferry fare, train fare and taxi I would have to pay out over £30 to return - and would Nathan reimburse my money - I doubt it. I may be a senior but I'm not stupid enough to throw good money after bad. Shame on you Stu, Nathan, Lyle and Hepcat Tattoo.

Fast forward to this year and following Darryl Mullen on social media. He posted a few new tattoos he was looking to give someone and one of them caught my eye. I messaged him, we set a date and Sophie K and I headed on in. (Sophie K was curious and also provided support!) A really small space, but it is what it is. There is a wee waiting room outwith the actual tattooing area, which has bench seating and loads of flash designs on the walls to give people some ideas of what can be done if you haven't come in looking for a particular design to be done. The shop assistant was really nice, had me fill out some paperwork and told me that Darryl would be with me in a bit as he was setting up in the back. Once he was ready, she guided me through the few small rooms and I was introduced to Darryl. Such a nice guy, he was really welcoming and nice. We got down to business in no time, and in no time, I was out of there with a shiny new tattoo that I am over the moon with! Darryl was chatty the whole time, which helped keeping my mind off of the inevitable pain of getting a tattoo, but I'll also note that this was the most painless tattoo I've ever gotten. Sure, it stung, but nothing like the other tattoos I've gotten. I'm actually going to work with him on another tattoo of mine and very much look forward to it. I can't comment on any other tattoo artist in the shop, but Darryl is great and his craftsmanship is well worth the money!

The whole experience is slick and professional, arrange a consultation with the artist you want, pay a deposit and arrange your appointment. Kym emailed me a couple of days before with her interpretation of what I was looking for and we chatted on the day too to get it just right. Couple of things to remember, you are dealing with artists, and the entire name is CUSTOM Inc, so it's better to go with a rough idea, let the talented artists put their spin on it! Clean, friendly, and with some great talent, if you have an inkling for a new tattoo, check these guys out.
