The workouts are varied and challenging. Each day of the week is dedicated to a different part of the body (legs, upper body, core, etc.). The coaches are motivating and great at both correcting form and offering variations for moves that may be difficult for people with knee or other issues. Shout out to Coach Euni! Her classes are always the most intense and leave me feeling spent in the best possible way! The front desk staff are incredibly friendly and make an effort to learn your name so they can greet everyone personally. Great gym! Highly recommend!!

There are 3 locations in the…read morePeninsula--Burlingame, San Mateo, and Milbrae-- though ownership for Burlingame is corporate and San Mateo/Milbrae are franchised so membership pricing between locations are slightly different. The Burlingame studio size is slightly bigger than the Milbrae location but has no windows so it gives more of a dark room with pulsing music, Barry's type of vibe. As with Barry's workouts, the music can get pretty loud (my Apple Watch always gives me the noise decibel warning) so I would recommend earplugs. Ownership aside, the workouts are consistent throughout the different studios. The format of the workouts alternate between assault biking and floor exercises (which can be strength movements using barbells, dumbbells, or kettlebells, or more plyometric/cardio focused movements) for 35 minutes, followed by a short core workout and stretches at the end. The fast pace of the intervals and switching between the bikes and the floor can be a little chaotic at first, but after you've taken a class it's pretty easy to follow. I think it's a great format for those who want a good balance of cardio and strength training in every workout. If you want extra butt kicking, I recommend taking Coach Euni's classes. Your legs and abs will be crying after her bike pushes and core exercises, but I love it! A few things to note about the Burlingame studio: -It seems to be the most popular so there are the most class time options but classes fill up quick. If you want to sign up for the weekday early morning ones, you usually have to do it a week in advance when they open (though if you waitlist, you do usually make it off the waitlist). -Because the classes are so full, the studio can feel crowded, especially during transitions as you are trying to grab/rerack weights or dodge people to get to/from your bike. -The popular class times (weekday early mornings, many weekend classes) are blacked out for ClassPass registration. -It's in downtown Burlingame so parking is a B unless you're taking one of the early weekday classes. If you're going for a weekday PM class or weekend 8:15 or later class, good luck and factor in parking time.

The front desk was hopping between assisting members and giving us tours. Mind you I arrived 30 minutes early only for one of the front desk girls to get us started THREE minutes before the class was supposed to start. To top it all off they didn't mention what number I was so I went into the class not knowing where to start. In addition, they put me on a rower that didn't have an IPad connected to it so the instructor had to run and grab one. The moment she put it on and connected it my heart rate monitor wasn't connected. It was such a shit show and it wasn't the instructor's fault at all. The instructor actually tried really hard to calm me down and make sure I was setup. She was very nice so no complaints with her. I woke up early for this and literally wasted almost 45 minutes of my day. I literally walked out and gave the heart rate monitor back to the front desk. They could see I was distraught. It was just a complete disappointment and waste of time. There needs to be better training or more staff to help with the peak days and hours. My BIG feedback is to have one front desk person focus on the intro members and the other focus on current members. This whole ordeal made me not want to join Orangetheory at all. What's even worse is that I live like three blocks away and was hoping to find something within walking distance. The search continues.

Long overdue shout out for OTF San Mateo!…read more Great coaches at this location! Coach Sophia gives clear instructions, and always takes the time to correct my form on the weight floor -- even while she's running the rest of the class and keeping everyone on track. Those small moments of individual attention (even if it's just 30 seconds) make such a big difference. It's little things like that , that keeps me coming back and recommending OTF to others. Coach Doug is also excellent, especially on the treads. He brings energy to all the classes. He keeps the workouts fun and engaging with music trivia and gives great advice on staying in the right heart rate zones. I honestly hate running, but he somehow makes the time fly by! The front desk team deserves just as much credit. Nicole is so kind, hardworking, and always goes above and beyond. She helped my daughter fix an issue with her account--even though San Mateo isn't her home studio. Kevin was also super helpful when my husband was on the fence about joining. He followed up, offered a second trial class, and took the time to explain the membership options so my husband could find the best fit for his schedule. He was informative without being pushy. And finally, JR, the manager, is always friendly and approachable. I work downtown, so this studio's location is perfect for me. Highly recommend OTF San Mateo -- great coaches, great people, and an overall fantastic community!

I accepted can't do it alone lol. TFT is why I'll never go back to a traditional gym. Each workout session fits within 1 hour, the sessions are designed in such a way where you are never waiting for an equipment, and whereas at a traditional gym it would take you twice as long to achieve the same results. The bonus is discovering there are so many muscles you didn't know how to train otherwise. I've tried both custom and group sessions and both are great. Custom gives you that one on one experience with one of the trainers where you can really hone in on your goals (fitness/strength). Group gives you the community. I like to alternate between the two depending on the season I'm in.

Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.

Recently they went above and beyond. I had an injury early last year and couldn't work out. I kept telling myself that I'll be back Equinox next month. After six months I realized it would be a while till I could come back and wished I had put my membership on hold as I had paid dues for about six months and not used the club. I called the club and spoke to Ethan, the manager, and explained I wanted to put my membership on hold till I could come back. He took a look at my account and saw that I hadn't been at the club in six months and, after getting a doctors letter, gave SIX MONTHS CREDIT. I was flabbergasted. Who does nice things like this any more. I started in early January and won't have to pay dues until July. Ethan, Will and all the other staff are amazing as are the members I have met there. 2026 is off to a great start!!!
