Every time we are in Duck we take our furkids inside their version of a "toy store ". The owners, either Robin or Kevin are always there to greet you and to spoil your dog with treat samples. Not only do they make their treats onsite, they have other pet products as well. Leashes, collars, and items for humans too. Kevin will most likely take a pic of your pet to post on FB. Our Dutch Shepard loves this store and gets very excited to see Robin. We will always go back every time we are in town. This is the best pet store. Prices are fair to the area. read more

This is a must stop for us, our biggest furbaby Jack actually drags us here the moment we hit the boardwalk. We get his freshly baked snacks, everything doggys, and adorable outfits because I'm the crazy lady that dresses up my tiniest babies (mostly to keep them warm). The proprietors are the kindest animal lovers you could ever know and they contribute so much to the animal community here in Duck. So much love to them both! read more

Husband and I walked in ready to buy our pup treats and toys. We didn't see anyone at the register which was weird but thought maybe they were grabbing stuff from the back? Nope. She was making more treats, which would be fine, but she NEVER acknowledged our existence. Not when we walked in, and not when we were near her. She Took a phone call while we were looking at things in her area and she walked off. Every trip to the Outer Banks requires a visit to Outer Barks in Duck, NC. Ever since our puppy, Cider, was 3 months old we have stopped in for treats, necessities and fun gifts. They have welcomed her and us with open arms. She loves to see her shop friend Georgie and exchange doggie greetings as only doggies do.. You walk in and are met with the most wonderful aromas as they make their homemade treats on site. Their hand made treats are incredible and have been the only ones Cider truly loves. She had her first doggie ice cream there and knows where we are the moment we get out of the car! This year (2024) they celebrate 25 years of serving the Outer Banks! Absolutely great service! While looking for a holistic remedy for my aging dog, one of the owners helped me find the perfect product for my dog. He asked questions about my dogs current meds, age, and breed before suggesting a product that was also on sale! He also brought his wife, the other owner, over to recommend some medications to talk to our vet about. Not once did I feel pressured to buy anything or that I had to questions their suggestions. Truly genuine and kind people. 10/10 would recommend!!! read more

We love this shop and it's been a go to shop since coming to the Outer Banks. Very friendly and knowledgeable owners and staff and open door to bring your dog in to visit and try a treat. They have everything from treats to CBD drops, T-shirts to toys. And the view is spectacular especially the sunsets. I still love this place. As I said before, I love myself a good independently owned pet store. Especially one that you are allowed to take your pets into and one that has the owners dogs within. Actually a lot of the places in OBX have pet friendly establishments anymore, but this is probably the only one that is specifically a pet store. Once again we were here around the time they were to start their Yappy Hour which I find to be an extra special treat for animal lovers and their pets alike. We did not stay, but we did shop a bit. We chatted with the shop owner and were informed that they just opened another location up the road in Duck near the start of the Boardwalk. Exciting news and that meant more pet products to look at (review for that location to come in a bit). If by chance you cannot find the item you are looking for, check out their website as you will be able to find something there that is not in the store. read more

I was actually somewhat disappointed in this store. The layout was unappealing and not conducive to browsing. Their offerings were extremely limited. The whole atmosphere of the place made me feel uncomfortable and cramped. That being said, the lady working there when we visited was incredibly friendly and super helpful. The homemade all-natural dog treats were well worth the visit, and despite my reservations, would likely lead me to visit again. (We were told this location would probably be closing within the next year.) read more

The owners, Robin and Kevin Carey, are amazing folks whose store is full of unique products including specialty foods, cards, artwork, books, gorgeous jewelry and clothing, as well as many hard to find items. Their Yappy Happy Hour is now a famous weekly gathering for dogs and their assistants! Fun, games, Robin's own home cooked doggie goodies, portraits, paw prints and much more. I make it a point to stop here every visit to the OBX. I love that they are open in the winter and the summer which I can't say for many other places here. This dog boutique really serves the true dog lover. Toys, snacks, clothes, and art... they have it all. Some of the coolest dog art I've seen has come from here and I'm a proud owner of a few pieces. The couple that runs this place are some of the nicest folks i the OBX and If i could, I'd buy one of everything and bring it back home with me. If you have a pet, or know someone who is a dog fanatic, come by and get some goodies here. I also just found out today that they do a NYE party for folks and the invite is extended to dyour fur babies. Love! read more

If you are a dog lover this is definitely a place to stop by! The owners and workers are absolutely wonderful. They kept making suggestions and even let some kids play the piano inside. They are happy people with big hearts! My aunt owns a small dog store like this in Maryland and she got the idea from this place. Yappy hours are great and I always find something for my pup here. Only downfall is pricing. A little more expensive than I have seen and I would get more if they cut it down a little bit. read more

My wife and I consider Duck, North Carolina a second home of sorts, and love to vacation there. We're also dog lovers, have two wonderful mutts, and the first place we stop when arriving in Duck is at The Outer Barks. The owners are the nicest people around, really 'get' the whole dog thing (dogs rule!), host Yappy Hours that are the funniest thing around, with people and their dogs socializing and soaking in the beach life together. The shop carries a great assortment of pet items, it's in a great little outdoor shopping center, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. One of our dogs, Emma, thinks she owns the place. Goes behind the counter, greets customers, and probably wishes she could work there full time. read more

This store is not only great for your pets, but these are some amazing town people that own this place. This is a spectacular local business for goofy dog people, locals and visitors alike. Nicest people on the planet working there - because they love animals. One year when we brought our dog to the beach a little too close to the 4th of July, they had Thundershirts in stock in his size. (Saved the day for our Moxley!) When I explained another year that my pup wasn't a "yappy hour" kinda pup (he just ignores the other dogs and doesn't care about the doggie pool), they handed me a container of doggie-cappuccino-ice cream for him anyway. It's where I get gifts for my petsitter, and toys & treats for her dog & mine, and any "how did we forget this?!" supplies for my dog during our vacation. The Outer Barks Gourmet dog treats are a big hit with my pup - but if you get the variety package, just know that all the starfish cookies sink to the bottom of the bag. :) If you have a dog, you should definitely pop in. read more

This place is awesome, me and my girlfriend are staying down in Hatteras and came up there just to get our puppy a cake for his birthday. After the three hour drive up there because of the crazy traffic we rolled in and were greeted by the friendliest owners i have ever seen. There puppy is so sweet and friendly as well. Fun store, friendly staff and an interesting selection. However, I was little turned off by how expensive everything was. $50 for a life jacket for a small dog? This is coming from a woman who will spare no expense for her dog, but really? I can buy the same life jacket from Petsmart for less than $20. I get that there is a mark up and I want to support small businesses, but this is a little ridiculous. read more
