I had the opportunity to order the Macadamia Ice Cream on their homemade gluten free waffle cone. The ice cream was absolutely delicious and had a great macadamia natural flavor. The texture of the ice cream was very smooth and silky. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/na-pali-frozen-organics-san-diego?select=7NkJCREb3w9L4SI2hxPBBA#RgSQWFCdjy4qijCH9pa1KQ) I really enjoyed the whole pieces of macadamia nuts embedded in the ice cream. They were quite tasty and crunchy. The glutton free waffle cone was equally as good. It was crunchy and held up well to the ice cream (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/na-pali-frozen-organics-san-diego?select=7NkJCREb3w9L4SI2hxPBBA#ND4Ucbvqus7U0_5l4-IY0w). It had a mild flavor which went very well with the ice cream. The young lady who owns the place is very nice and works very hard and diligently. They also offer shaved ice with a variety of flavors. You can also find them at other Farmer's markets, so please check their website for which ones.

Honestly hard to find a place with so many choices and very reasonable pricing. My most recent visit I saw that the menu was changed completely and that they were serving tori paitan. I never had it before so I had to try it and it was delicious! You still get a very similar mouth feel of a creamy tonkotsu ramen, but it just doesn't sit as heavy. I think scrapping a menu that they've had for years is a bold move, but I see the vision. They're bringing a different style of ramen that you won't really find anywhere else here in San Diego. Would highly recommend being open minded and giving it a shot. Also would recommend ordering it with hard thin noodles. Workers are also always very friendly and knowledgeable about the sake so definitely ask for a recommendation to pair with your food.

Where is Gordon Ramsey when I need him?! He could really help point out all the failures of this business establishment and revamp it. Food: Mediocre. We ordered 2 apple Empanadas and 2 shaved ice, one bubble gum flavor and one strawberry. Yelpers, don't be fooled, the ice was not shaved. They were crushed ice and the smallest size cost $7.00. Their so-called 'shaved' crushed ice had big pieces and requires a lot of chomping. The strawberry crushed ice came with soggy canned-strawberries, not fresh. Even my 20-month old baby said, 'Ewww that's yucky!' We took a couple of bites and threw it in the trash. We originally asked for two chicken empanadas but they ran out so our only other choice was apple empanadas so we ordered two of them. The empanadas were soggy and took almost 10minutes to make.

They only had a table for 5 but we ended up having 6 people in our party. They were so kind to be able to accommodate the additional person! They had personalized menus that greeted my party and it wished my friends a happy birthday!! They actually got to take the menus home! This was really a nice touch, I appreciated the details. We family-styled everything which is honestly the way to go so everybody can try a little of everything! It was majority of our party's first time dining there. We started off with some drinks, I got the Non-alcoholic Guava Mocktail and I got to try what was the equivalent to an espresso martini too. Definitely liked the guava drink better because it tasted like guava nectar juice (kind of like Kerns or Jumex). The Expresso Martini had fresh mint in it and it tasted earthy which wasn't my cup of tea. For food we started off with the Heirloom Tomato Salad which was DELICIOUS!! I don't know what they put in the Vietnamese Green Goddess (probably fish sauce since all the dishes basically had this) but it was magnificent and one of my favorite dishes of the night. Then the Scallops and the Black Cod came out. The Scallops came in a set of 3 and we cut them in half so we could all have a taste. The sauce on this was DIVINE!!! It was citrusy but still really flavorful bursting with umami. I'm literally starting to drool reminiscing about it xD We wanted to keep it to use on other dishes because it was so good. The Black Cod was also delicious. It had fried skin attached and a sesame soy glaze. Next up came the Beef Tartare and the Wagyu Steak. The Beef Tartare was probably the least flavorful out of everything we ordered, but it was still well seasoned. My friend said it was really spicy but it might have just been her bite because I didn't think it was spicy at all. I like that the give you the option of leafy greens or shrimp chips to eat it with. The Wagyu though, was an all-star dish. It was the crowd favorite for sure, we all enjoyed not only the steak but the picked baby eggplants that come with it, and the sauce was phenomenal!! Lastly came the Dry Aged Duck which is what they're known for. It was definitely the biggest fish out of all. You were able to eat the duck with two different sauces, one they called a "Fish Sauce Chimichurri" and "Vietnamese XO sauce" which is more so satay. My friends liked the XO sauce but I liked the Chimichurri better. They had actually forgotten about the side of Buttered Rice but I was told it was incredibly flavorful on its own so we still asked for it. It had more than just butter in it, there was dried shrimp and sesame seeds, and it was made with coconut milk or something because it had a sweet but savory taste to it. I saved some of my duck and Wagyu to eat with it which was actually pretty good. Overall I liked that they brought out the dishes from lightest to heaviest and especially after they brought out out 2 sides of Buttered Rice we were all satisfied and full. It was the perfect amount of food. Honestly EVERY dish was different but amazingly dank and I think it's the fish sauce in everything. They were also sweet and kept the cake we brought in the fridge, placed the candles on it for us, and even after we sang they cut the cake for us!! 10/10 would recommend coming here for not only the food but the impeccable service!! Since we had a larger party there's an automatic 20% gratuity already added to the bill, which came out to be $555! (Look at that angel number!)

Looking at pictures from other nights, most of our food was half the size or missing some major component. For example, the egg noodles had only a few very thin truffle shavings compared to what I saw online. They also lacked the real truffle flavor. The chocolate dessert was half of its normal size. Overall, everything is extremely overpriced and lacks flavor. The food was so bland across the board and it felt like we were being skimped out not on just the size but the flavor too. We eat a lot of Asian food and the taste wasn't even close to matching our expectations. All the workers were very friendly, but the food came out very slow. They also gave us a printed out menu for our anniversary with our last name on it which was spelled wrong. I don't care about that, just thought it was very funny. The restaurant was smaller than we expected, but we did enjoy the colors, the layout and the overall ambiance. Wouldn't go back!

Service was good, and our waiter did a great job explaining popular dishes, flavor profiles, and answering some of our deeper questions. And all the staff were friendly and warm to us, which was great. Now the food, hands down- the Aleppo chicken was the best chicken I've had in my life. It was juicy, sweet, tender, and .had a great char to it- 10/10. The lamp chop (lollipops) were super tender, seasoned to perfection and accompanied by Greek yogurt underneath. It was so good and it did not taste gamey at all- 10/10. Uni toast was a hit- was honestly disappointed it was only two pieces because I could have ate 10 more of those. I don't even like Uni but that was a can't miss dish- 10/10. The paperdelle pasta, it was okay. A little on the salty side and the noodles were al dente which I like my noodles cooked softer. It was solid- 6/10. The tomato, pita chips salad was surprisingly delicious. I don't even like to eat salads but that was up there with some of the best salads I've tried. It was refreshing, light, and actually made more room in my stomach to eat more- 10/10. I also ordered the hummus. That was really good, creamy, balanced, great flavor. That dish only comes with 1 pita. We had a good amount of hummus left over so we asked for another pita in which they provided. I'm not a fan of hummus, but that was a banger- 10/10. The most disappointing dish was the bravas potatoes. The potatoes in itself was good, crispy, and flavorful. However, the red sauce that was on them was not good. Very overpowering and I think if it was without then the entirety of the dish would have been better- 4/10. Out server did a great job of recognizing that the potatoes was probably our least favorite dish- being that we cleaned all of our plates from the other dishes, and offered to replace the potatoes without the red sauce in which we took that to go. We really appreciated that offer. All in all, my Callie experience was superb and the hype is real. This is a really good Mediterranean restaurant and I'd highly recommend for others to try. I'm definitely coming back. I'd give Callie 10/10 rating as this is absolutely one of the better restaurants in San Diego (downtown) for sure.

We were lucky and got a table for two right by the kitchen so we got to watch everything being made and coming out. So fun!! Everyone was very attentive and friendly. They check every dish before it goes out and little things like folding your napkin when you walk away from the table, pouring water in a way so their arm doesn't block your face, and giving you new plates and silverware each course, etc. It's things like that which truly differentiate one restaurant from another. We started with the hummus and a focaccia special. I would have licked the hummus bowl if no one had been watching. It was so good as was the homemade pita that came with it. It only comes with one piece but you can order more if you want. The ricotta/honey spread with the focaccia was amazing. To be honest, we didn't love the focaccia itself. I think maybe it was a little oily for our taste but the dip was so good it didn't matter. We also ordered the Callie Fire Sauce. It's very good. They give you a little bottle and then you just take the rest home with you. Our next course was the uni toast. I'm not a huge uni fan but this was so good. You must get this if you go...it's so unique and the flavors compliment each other so well. Extremely impressive dish. We followed with the lemon saffron pasta which also had uni (this time I skipped it) but the pasta and sauce was very tasty. We ended with the Aleppo chicken and potatoes. Skip the potatoes. We weren't sure which vegetable we wanted, I panicked and said potatoes...get something else, they aren't terrible but looking at other tables, all their vegetables looked much better. The chicken though...oh my...hands down our favorite dish. I was so full but kept eating it, I couldn't stop. I literally kept eating knowing I was taking up space in my stomach that is normally reserved for dessert and did it anyway. It was a difficult decision but I have zero regrets. Highly recommend.
