I guess the bars on Susannenstraße have found a good thing and are all sticking to it. Park Cafe is a cool, trendy little place. They have a limited food menu, do a good range of coffees and also cocktails. That's about it.

The Park Cafe was one of the first places in Hamburg which I hit at random to enjoy a social cup of…read morecoffee. When I arrived, it was packed, and it didn't take me long to figure out that one needs to find his or her "niche hour". Park sports a very unique menu - they are very strong with their cocktail offerings (the strongest I've seen outside of a bar or pub), along with traditional warm drinks and an interesting selection of cakes and soups. Their coconut soup seems to be a hit with the crowd, personally, I could find myself at park only for their blueberry muffins. Coffee at Park is a hit or miss. On some days, the coffee is too strong for my liking, on other days, it's distinctly weak. This I'm willing to forgive, however, since Park is and remains one of the best places to meet friends in the Schanze for some good conversation. I must admit, however, that due to the cafe's popular nature, the chances of me going there alone to drink coffee and read a book are extremely slim. The crowd at Park is very diverse and remains diverse throughout the day. Young folks and the older crowd meet at Park during the mornings, afternoons and evenings, and it's not uncommon to see parents sitting at the tables with their children. The "clubbing crowd" seems to mostly frequent Park on Friday nights, presumably to order from the cocktail menu.

Nice little burger haunt that places great emphasis on providing special dietary options in their…read moreburgers. Service was friendly and super-quick, nice! The burgers were pretty good, although I felt that they overdid on the fatty (cheese sauce, mayo) ingredients. Fries very good and the home made lemonade plain, but good. Charging extra for ketchup was a bit unnecessary, and the bathrooms were barely adequate, also lacking an option to dry one's hands.

Bad. Just bad. Unless you have lost your tastebuds do not eat at Grilly Idol…read more The photos looked good, the reviews were good, had to go try it out. And we were so so so disappointed. Cold Dry Tasteless Spineless Way Overpriced (5€ for Fries) First we waited for an hour until the food came. Then it was one horrible taste experience after another. I ordered the Blue-cheese burger with sweet potato - it was nothing more than nasty and tasteless. Too much blue-cheese sauce, the bacon was thin and the opposite of crispy. The "candied walnuts" were two nuts stuck deep into the tasteless bun. The paddy was dry, tasteless and couldn't hold itself together. To top it all off the burger was cold. Cold meat, cold bun. I was eating with 3 others - all three ordered the Cheeseburger. All three did not finish their food due to disgust. 2 of them ordered the "chilly cheese fries" - the cheese tasted like kraft cheese out of the can (US Reference...) which is fake cheese. The "chilies" didn't help the whole situation, as they looked like they were sloughed onto the cheese directly from the glass they were purchased in. No one asked how the food tasted. No one seemed to care if the customers were happy. I believe they had seen faces like ours before: disappointed and sad that the food was so terrible. We all left the restaurant with rocks in our stomachs, wishing we had never entered this restaurant. Really a shame. I should have taken the hint from the amount of "additives" (Tabasco, spicy chilly sauces etc) that sat ready on the table.

I enjoyed this place immensely…read more In my walk back to my hotel, I needed to grab a bite for dinner. Found a fun outside table and ordered a glass of wine. Based on previous yelp reviews, I knew better than to order the nachos, but I didn't want to order a full dinner. I opted for the fried Camembert app, which arrived with a nice crisp basic salad. The plate had two discs of Camembert, which I found very generous. It was hot, crunchy and crisp and the berry sauce they came with went perfectly with them. The waitstaff was very friendly: disclaimer, I do speak fluent, native German so that may help a bit. But they were very easy going when I asked to move to get out of the plume of cigarette smokers. Price was reasonable and I left full and happy!!

A bartender recommended Oma's but we misunderstood what he said so we walked around in circles until we found it. The place was packed even on a weeknight so we knew it was good. The food is surprisingly good and cheap too. I ordered the schnitzel with bacon. Everything is good with bacon! It came with potatoes and lots of bacon. It was quality food for under €10. You should come here with a big appetite because the Germans are known for serving huge portions.
