I mean sometimes it's great, all your mates are in there, there's a nice bench area outside and it's perfect for a summer afternoon. Then there's the fact that it does fill up with idiots looking for fights sometimes, and has been known for incidents occasionally, at no fault of the owners or landlords, unfortunately it's just the fault of the clientele sometimes. The Jug doubles as a hotel and their rates are good, they are attached to a Bistro, they are a wander away from the lovely Mirror Park, and over the road from Heswall Police Station, so what a daft place to pick a fight! They have a full bar and a bistro restaurant attached which serves lovely food, they occasionally have some fantastic live music and they have a great pub quiz once a week. Don't be put off but keep your wits about you and stay away from some of the idiots that frequent this place! Another thing is, this pub is known for having a younger crowd, so if you want a quiet pint in the evenings, this may not be the place for you.

But inside it's quite a 'local' place; it's the kind of place that doesn't seem overly friendly with strangers. This behaviour always baffles me with a pub. When I used to manage a wine bar, you welcomed new blood around the bar because you'd get fed up talking to the same old people! No messing around in this place either, as it's well known as the watering hole of all the local police! But nevertheless, the beers good, the views are great, they have a full bar and plenty of comfortable seats. It's the kind of pub you can quite easily relax in and enjoy the crossword of a good book. It's not a party place!

This doesn't mean the Wirral is excluded from Merseyside as a whole, just from Scouseland. My mother's a born and bred Liverpudlian and she agrees. Heck. She's from Kirkby. Anyway to tip our hats to the Wirral and big it up for once, it's only fair to check out one of their restaurants. The Gusto chain seems to have taken over a number of Est Est Est branches and this is one of them, a Mediterranean restaurant which focuses primarily on Italian but offers a wide choice of dishes; plenty of veggie options alongside seafood and meat. The service is attentive and friendly, the place has a very welcoming atmosphere and the pizzas are cooked properly in a wood burning oven. The cocktails are also worth writing home about. It can be a little expensive for what it is, but you might well find that the quality of what you get is worth it. It all feels very laid back and welcoming and the open kitchen is always a reassuring sign. It's one of the best the Wirral has to offer and I for one am glad I tried it. Give it a go, you'll definitely have a good meal.
