Had a catastrophic engine failure going over Pequop Summit back in April. AAA towed me to Otto Clinic. You never know who you're going to get when breaking down in rural areas, but I won the mechanic lottery with Otto Clinic. Chris was able to identify the failure quickly, and unfortunately for me, it required a new engine. Chris's explanation was clear, competent, and accurate. Nobody wants to hear they need a new engine, but I ran everything by my usual mechanic, and he agreed with everything Chris said. Not your everyday repair, and not the type of thing you want to leave to just anyone. But this isn't just anyone- Chris is an ASE certified, AAA recommended Master Mechanic. He knows his stuff. Chris and Alyssia (who runs the shop) really helped me out in a major bind, and had a ton of patience with me while my warranty company dragged their feet getting a new engine shipped out. Highly recommend, and it feels good to know there's a A+ mechanic on the long stretch of highway between Reno and SLC. I hope to never HAVE to be back, but if something goes wrong on I-80, I know where I'm being towed. Honest - yup! His original estimate was $100+ more than the actual end cost. Limped into Wells, NV on a Tuesday night when our 2015 Ford F-150 decided it wasn't gonna go more than a mile or two at a time without going into limp-mode. Took a hotel. Checked Yelp and found Otto's Clinic had stellar reviews. The next morning it brought him the truck, he quickly diagnosed it and we ordered the parts. He was backed up and finally took care of us on Friday, so we were stuck in Wells, NV for three nights - but he did take care of us, and he did an honest job at a very honest cost. I can't recommend him high enough, and everyone in town who knew him agreed - he is as good as they get and honest as they come. Back on the road for us! read more

These guys are the best! Broke down and limped into Wells. Yelped mechanics and ended up here. Super friendly, great communication, speedy repair and, best of all, drove us to hotel to wait on specialty parts from Salt Lake. This was a chance encounter with one of the last honest auto mechanics around. Chris at the Otto Clinic took us in when we limped into the shop. He squeezed us into the line-up, but we had to wait a couple of days for parts. Once the parts were in he got the car back on the road and us on the way. Down the road we found we had one issue with the repairs, but it was minor and we were still able to continue the trip. We called on Monday and explained the problem. Chris and his assistant, Kristi, were very helpful and made sure we were taken care of. Everything seems to have been resolved without a hitch. This is one of the last honest mechanics out there. Probably one of the scariest situations is a car breakdown on the road. This was just our situation as I sent my son and daughter cross county from California to Wisconsin with our vehicle. When my son said they were having transmission problems in Wells, Nevada. I instantly realized this was a disaster with no happy ending. I did a quick research on auto shops and there were few reviews and none very recent. I settled on Otto's because it was off the beaten path and seemed to be established. They got my son in right away and gave the vehicle a diagnostic evaluation at a fair price. It was not pretty and I realized there was no easy solution to my situation. They were very kind to my son and daughter and were patient as we worked through the options we had which again were very few. After looking at all the options including abandoning the vehicle completely, we settled in trusting Otto's with the complete job. Otto's got my family to elko to rent a car and gave us a time frame to finish the repairs. As the date for the pick up approached, Otto's were flexible as we arranged for an after hour pickup of the vehicle. My wife drove the van back to. Wisconsin where we keep it to use when we go back to visit family. I could have been taken advantage of in many ways, but I Am glad we were treated well by the team at Otto s It was comforting to know that Chris was an active member of the community, involved with high school athletics. Our BMW had a computer malfunction (so we thought) which prevented it from starting the engine. This was on 12/29 right before New Year's. We were towed 12 miles from out of town back into town. Population 1200. The tow guy told us our only hope was Otto Clinic, but given it was late in the evening, and tomorrow was Saturday (before New Year's) we were potentially looking at staying stuck till the coming Tuesday. I called Chris next morning, her returned the call on Saturday. After a short chat he said, there's not much he can do about the car without seeing it. But as expected he was going out of town for holidays. IN the end Chris agreed to leave the key of the car at a special place so another mechanic could take a look. The situation looked as if we will not move for days out of Wells NV. After about 20 minutes a call comes in. Its Chris he said "Your car is fixed." I could not believe this. A bit later he brought the car in, and showed me exactly what the problem was. Fortunately it was an easy fix, the air intake disconnected itself, once reconnected the sensor on it started sending meaningful data to the computer and everything started working just fine. I have to give it to Chris, he did not have to work that Saturday. He did not have to have a look at the car at all. He was only supposed to leave us the key and go on his vacation. He did not do that, and he saved the day for us in a big way (it looked like we were going to miss our own New Year's celebration at home). After breaking down at night in a downpour, we were towed 50 miles back to Wells & to the Otto Clinic & left my 1998 Subaru Outback (239,000 miles). Early the next morning, Chris Otto was already busy with 3 clients all needing repairs. He efficiently diagnosed the problem & the part was ordered (to be delivered the following day). Later that evening, we arrived at the shop to retrieve supplies off the roof rack. To our dismay, the shop was closed and the car was inside. However, Chris drove up (working after hours) and not only let us in to access the car, but we discovered that he had carefully removed all the plants in the cargo area to allow him access to the fuel pump (without any damage to my treasured plants!) And he never complained about it. The Subaru was ready to go by 10:30am the next morning and is running better than it has in a long time. Every so often you come across a truly great mechanic; honest, knowledgable, capable, fair, good natured, Chris Otto is that kind of mechanic. My ford E150 van broke down on I-80 and we pulled off in Wells. I was told by locals to got to Otto in the morning. I was there at 7am and he was already hard at work. He ran the check engine scan and found multiple problems; misfiring cylinders, sensors indicating rich, not to mention smoke was bellowing out of my exhaust. He told me could get to it in the next couple days. My band was on the road and had to get to Tahoe that night for a show (400 miles west). I came back to his shop a little later basically in desperation and he said "well I guess we can take a look." he got to work running tests, checked the spark plugs, etc. Within about half an hour he figured out that I had a bad fuel injector. He switched one of my sparkplugs around to get a dry one on the cylinder and I was then able to get to Elko where they had the part. Otto is always busy; and for good reason, he's the best mechanic for miles in any direction. But he will always give you the time of day and try to get you back on the road. By the way he charged me $35 for the initial diagnostic and the whole second part of his work he did free; he simply smiled, nodded and got back to his work. He is the only guy worth going to in town and I strongly recommend him to anyone. read more

I came to this business around 430pm they close @5pm. Chris looked at vehicle and didnt acknowledge me n room turned to his asst. said order the parts. She had to tell me what parts and when they wld b in. I asked Chris if he thought it done extensive damage he said i dont think so he pulled plugs out looked ok. Next morn was told bent the valves by his asst asked to explain what that meant she put him on phone he was rude and to point told me 1500 repair. After calling husband 3000miles away he said junk it. Chris at otto clinic said still charging me 300 bux to put waterpump n time belt on but he shoulda investigated before puttin on wlda saved me some bux. Long story short he said he wld take car for the 300 bux I owed and give me n son a ride 50 miles away to bus stop. When I came to tlk to him bout deal he was rude no sympathy all I did was ask for a little cash (100) also having brand new 300 in tires new everything on this car. He said no I was crying and went out door upset and came back n and ask for a receipt as to what I still had to pay 300 for since some of parts were in floor of car. He got very upset yelled and told me to leave and find my own ride. I was crying and very upset had my son with me and 3000 miles from home. He had no sympathy. Guy down road said he is a crook and does this kinda thing to out of towners. Also the tow company roadway referred to me and neighbor said he gives kickback for their referrals. Def do not trust this repair shop!!! Or def get everything in writing prior to any service he does. Check out repair shop down road from him this guy was a true gentleman with sympathy and seemed like he cared. I will say the asst was very nice I felt sorry for her having to work for this guy Chris he was rude to her while we were there. read more
