In 8 business days (right before the Christmas holidays) they tore everything out and...*deep breath* replaced a crank window with a double-hung one, updated the electrical, moved the lighting, installed a ceiling vent (there was none before), swapped out the tub for a walk-in shower, replaced the hideous wall tile with panels, swapped out the linoleum floor for marble tile, replaced the toilet, vanity, mirror and storage cabinet, fixed my lop-sided pocket door, installed a gorgeous trim around the door and window, replaced the baseboard, patched up 2 huge and unsightly access panels, painted the bathroom, installed all the bathroom accessories, and tested - then retested - everything! As a couple who is particularly picky about, well, everything, working with Eric is a real pleasure. He consulted with us every step of the way, cleaned up his work space at the end of every day, and once again went above and beyond to ensure we were not only pleased with the final product, but that everything was solidly installed, level, square, and had multiple levels of protection against water infiltration. We have an ongoing contract to stamp concrete our backyard. An Impressions staff member measured…read moreour backyard on July 2022 and we paid the down payment of $4240. The agreement was that the installation would start late fall 2022 or early spring 2023. After paying the deposit, some changes have happened in between that would cause us to change the scope of the project. When we wanted to discuss that with the impressions staff member, he surprised us with "the minimum mobilization and materials costs for any project of $10,500.00 + HST", which was never brought to our attention before signing the contract and paying the deposit. Also it is not stated in the contract. We are in the process of selling the house that is the subject of the contract. Hence, we have been trying to reach you multiple times with no success. Only once somebody (maybe the receptionist) took our call and promised that he would let somebody from your team contact us, but this of course hasn't happened. We then tried to find the founder of this company and we found it. So we escalated the matter to him. Surprisingly he responded and promised to follow up and get back to us. This was about 3 weeks ago. We sent him a friendly reminder, but then nothing happened. This is why, we feel that we were taken advantage of. They are using our personal circumstances to confiscate our deposit without even clarifying the situation or providing any kind of work or resolution. Our request is that we would like to have a change of the scope that wouldn't limit us to this minimum mobilization amount in our new house. This experience made us doubt that company's customer service as well as its business in general. We are really disappointed by the service that we have received from them so far. It is ridiculous how they were responsive when they wanted our project and wanted to collect the deposit, but after that nothing. We already found that several complaints have been filed against them in BBB that are similar to ours, which made us feel that it was a huge mistake working with them. We feel that we got scammed by a Canadian company. This is why, we are submitting this review to help others not fall through the same trap.

Amazing guidance with step by step process by this contractor with our total design we had planned for our new kitchen footprint and layout to cabinet selections and stone countertop selections, prestigious carpentry skills, drywall finish and plumbing to the tiling of backsplash, and our hardwood floor installation of the complete main level entrance to our new kitchen along with complete construction of a wall we had removed for a more open concept. They handled all city building permits seamlessly and the 2 onsite meetings with the city building code inspectors. This past summer we had a disaster: a rainstorm soaked the floor and the wall under the window in…read moreour basement guest room. Even worse, it happened days before we were scheduled to leave for a long-awaited trip to see extended family. We really didn't want to miss it. Fortunately we knew this was a good contractor as they had done some excellent work for us previously. These guys came right away and got to work. We left on schedule. They ran tests and identified the type of mold present in the wall. Unfortunately moisture had been seeping in and/or condensing in all the foundation walls for some time, they discovered. They removed the mold and got the proper machines to dry and decontaminate the place. We decided to redo just about the whole basement, if they were up for it, and they were. They added various measures to prevent any future mold and improve energy efficiency, like waterproof insulation and regrading outside. And they added an egress window, backflow valve, some nice pot lights, and beautiful laminate flooring. All the work was completed promptly and to a high degree of quality. We are very happy with our basement and would not hesitate to recommend Forever Kitchens as a contractor.

I cannot possibly stress how much of a difference having the right partner to work with for a renovation can make an impact. First off, when Steph and I bought our first home together it was a stressful process as I believe it is true for any first-time home buyers. There is so much going on between mortgages, moving, inspections, work and balancing all of it, just that process alone can be a nightmare. Add to that the rather ambitious idea that we wanted to renovate some key elements of the house /before/ we moved in so that we didn't have to try and balance living and renovations at the same time. Enter: Oakwood. We've had a great relationship with them for a long time (They previously renovated Iversoft's newest office) and we have always visited their design centre just off of trim road in Orléans with envy. When we bought a place down the street from their design centre, they were a natural choice for a partner. We were working with a close friend on the design and inspiration for our planned renovation and Oakwood's team was absolutely amazing at working with us. They were able to provide their own recommendations and design insight while working within the vision Design Candy had presented and, unbelievably were willing to work with the insane timeline we'd set for ourselves (a little over 4 weeks!) Start to finish. Let me also say right now, EVERY single person we spoke to going into this renovation told us that renovations run over time and over budget and no amount of praise for Oakwood or belief in their process and teams was going to change that. (Spoilers: They NAILED the timeline!) The Job: Completely demo and renovate Kitchen Upgrade home electrical service from 100A to 200A Sand and refinish ALL hardwood in the house Disassemble, sand, refinish the main staircase and replace all wood spindles with new metal ones Update most major lighting fixtures Repaint the entire house Timeline: 4.5 Weeks until we moved in (Start to finish) Conclusion Since the renovation work was completed and as we've settled into our new home I have not yet missed an opportunity to talk about how great an experience working with Candace, Sharon, John, Marc and the entire Oakwood and Design Candy teams were. When you're dealing with a world of chaos in a renovation where every timeline is dependant on another, suppliers and work can so easily be tripped up by simple mistakes or oversights, Oakwood stands head and shoulders above any other company we've ever spoken to. They have detailed reporting and processes to keep owners involved in every step of the process while also giving a ton of confidence that everything is happening just the way it is supposed to.
