When we arrived our room wasn't quite ready, so we asked what was a close place to eat. Jeremy at the front desk directed us to an excellent place just up the road. After spending an hour eating,vee came back and the room still wasn't ready. Jeremy took off from the cost for the inconvenience and we proceeded to hang out in the lobby talking to him about hunting, fishing, and the Cooperstown area. When our rooms were finally ready, we headed to their top level of rooms and settled in. I enjoy "vintage" hotels, but my son is used to modern ones. Needless to say, this place grew on him and it worked for us. We even enjoyed a cigar while overlooking the lake on our last day there. I thought it was a very good deal for the price and it's about a 10 minute ride to downtown Cooperstown, so you're a little ways away from that chaos. Can't beat the views!

The…read morehotels in Cooperstown were mostly booked, or very expensive and this was a reasonable alternative even though we knew we'd have to drive 10+ minutes into town. The first day we were there was fine. The parking was good and the room was very clean. Little did we know some of that would change. If you aren't familiar with Cooperstown Dreams Park, be sure to check the schedule before planning a trip to Cooperstown, unless you're there for a baseball tournament (which apparently our entire motel was). It will make your time there very difficult. All the shops will be clogged, and the Hall of Fame will be mobbed. Our motel was basically empty all day and you could come or go as you please. But at around 9:00pm it would get completely full with cars parked everywhere, even in places there weren't any spots. There would be car doors slamming, kids screaming and playing, and adults drinking and talking until well after 11:00pm. This happened every night. It was extremely annoying, especially when you're woken up from a sound sleep. There was no enforcement of quiet hours even though it's posted everywhere. So if you want to pay a bunch of money to sleep on a crappy spring mattress with zero support and be woken up by pretentious baseball families every night. I highly recommend staying here! Also, it was just far enough outside of Cooperstown to be annoying whenever you wanted a bite to eat or a warm breakfast. It was a one and done for us.

Searching the internet I found Cobblescote on the Lake. It was just what I was looking for. An old school kind of place with character that represented the area. During our week's vacation we had stayed in a few modern chain hotels and were super pleased to find a place such as this that was the total opposite. Right on Lake Otsego in a picturesque setting among the woods. As we drove up both of us were blown away. This place was something out of a Norman Rockwell painting he did for the Saturday Evening Post back in the day. Pure Americana from a time that relects our grandparents era of when vacationing upstate and in the Catskills was a big thing. The building itself and the rustic decor reminds me of a hunting and fishing lodge. American flags, wood everywhere, log furniture, hunting/fishing instruments on the walls, checkers game on the table, all types of outdoorsy articles and sporting things placed around, an amazing view overlooking the lake, and the most wonderful outdoor deck to enjoy it on. We were greeted by the owner, Peter, and he gave us a quick tour of the place. There are spacious grounds with gas grills and picnic tables, a beach area for swimming, fishing, boating or just relaxing right on the lake. They also will provide fishing gear for guests. I saw a canoe, pedal boat and kayaks that can be used free of charge. You can even get boat tours and fishing charters here. There is a free laundry room on site which is great if you're there with kids and cleaning some clothes is a must. Also some foosball, pinball and other games to occupy some time. Every morning a full complimentary breakfast is provided to all guests. All the rooms are newly refurbished with private baths and Adirondack décor. Cable TV in all rooms and free wifi throughout. AC units in the rooms too, but it can actually get cool enough at night so that you don't need it. Plus, they are located just 4 miles from Cooperstown, 4 miles from the Glimmerglass Festival, and 9 miles from Cooperstown Dreams Park so everything is a quick drive. Reasonable room rates for all this make it a terrific deal. I have to say the rooms are well kept, clean, and very cozy. Peter is a very attentive and affable resort owner who cares about his guests and makes sure they have everything needed for a great stay. One of the highlights for me was just getting up early each morning to have a hot cup of coffee on the deck while watching the sunrise over the lake. So relaxing and peaceful. At night we sat out there under a blanket and drank wine. Another was the option of a home cooked meal here on a Saturday night on the deck prepared by Peter and his friendly staff. Shrimp cocktail, crab and corn chowder, char broiled delmonico steak, and dessert. Delicious meal. (Extra charge for this but so worth the price.) Oh, can't forget that yummy breakfast quiche and fresh fruits the next day before we had to sadly head home. Overall, just a wonderful place and one of the best spots we stayed at during our vacation. Great memories. If you're looking for a more simpler place to rest your head at that brings you back to a time when upstate resort vacations were big then you should experience Cobblescote. Rooms clean, well-appointed and we were lucky enough to get one with a view :) Genevieve offered a wonderful breakfast each morning and the view from the open-air deck could not be beat! Great way to start each day. Plenty of amenities offered for couples or families: games, kayaks, paddle boat, bbq, fridge, microwave, laundry facility, to name just a few. All the comforts of home, which made it a perfect place to land for 8 days! Was fun to get to know the hosts (Genevieve, Mary, Peter & Clayton), as well as other guests. The inn is located on the lake and has a private beach. There are both rooms and cabins. We had a room on the lake side, and it was so peaceful. Beautiful views and maybe a minute from the lake. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Cooperstown, so it's the perfect combination - relax at the lake or drive into town. There are grills available to use, and kayaks free to use for guests. The facility itself is on the older side, but it is well maintained, clean, and comfortable. And the staff are amazing - genuine smiles from everyone, friendly, and helpful. Did I mention the cost was around $100 less per night than the local " brand name" hotel, which is located in a strip mall and next to a McDonald's? No thanks! I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our visit. I don't know that we'll ever make it back to Cooperstown, but if we do I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We called to cancel and were told we would be losing all our money ($490!), and that we could not rebook for another date either. WE SENT HICKORY GROVE MOTOR INN A PHOTO OF OUR POSITIVE COVID TESTS TAKEN THAT DAY. They indicated that we could come to their property anyway. Hickory Grove Motor Inn does not care if guests arrive at their property knowing they have active cases of COVID. So, do they care for the well-being of their guests? We booked through Travelocity who also attempted a refund for us, but the property would not agree to any kind of adjustment or refund.
