It is very rare…read morethat any butcher will sell less than 5-10 meats, but that is the case with Porta Grande - a mixed butcher and steakhouse. Do not think any odd steakhouse. Instead, what you will get is a classic Italian experience with meat grilled to perfection. I haven't tried their restaurant, but I can safely say that their butcher is amazing. This isn't any high tech butcher, but a classic Italian butcher selling different meat by weight. They sell some simple cuts of pig, beef, chicken and lamb - but also buffalo and wild boar. To very friendly prices - especially compared to what wild boar will cost in my home country of Denmark. If available, which is VERY rare - highly unlikely - these cuts will sell for an extreme price. Service here was very Italian. Not fast and we had to wait a bit for any to come. This is Italy and part of the charm. Going to butcher here is just a much more unique experience. You can very likely get meat cheaper around, but the quality here is outstanding. It really is. Remember that their prices are still extremely cheap compared to butchers in the Nordic countries, in the UK and so on. This review is only for the butcher, but they safely receive 5 beautiful stars. I haven't had such a good piece of beef for a long time. Actually this ranks as one of the best steak experiences ever. Meaty, tender and fatty. Just how a piece of beef should be. The famous local dish is called bombetta. Little rolls of meaty pleasure, roasted in a wood fired oven, dusted with bread crumbs and salt. We had three varieties: the pork, which is pork leg slices, with some fontina cheese wrapped inside, wrapped in bacon, then there was wild boar and lastly buffalo with arugula and cheese. All were delicious. We wanted to sample everything they had, so we went a little overboard, starting with their superb lardo, paper thin slices of pork fat, seasoned with a little pepper and salt. Also had mixed salamis, pulian bean based hummus, some crispy barley dish, pickled vegetables, and oven roasted potatoes, all very well prepared and delicious. There are a few 2 and 4 tops, but most people are seated around a communal table nicely planted with cacti (and greenery dangles from elsewhere around the comfortable space).
