In Nordic countries we are used to massive butchers with lots of different meat. It is very rare…read morethat any butcher will sell less than 5-10 meats, but that is the case with Porta Grande - a mixed butcher and steakhouse. Do not think any odd steakhouse. Instead, what you will get is a classic Italian experience with meat grilled to perfection. I haven't tried their restaurant, but I can safely say that their butcher is amazing. This isn't any high tech butcher, but a classic Italian butcher selling different meat by weight. They sell some simple cuts of pig, beef, chicken and lamb - but also buffalo and wild boar. To very friendly prices - especially compared to what wild boar will cost in my home country of Denmark. If available, which is VERY rare - highly unlikely - these cuts will sell for an extreme price. Service here was very Italian. Not fast and we had to wait a bit for any to come. This is Italy and part of the charm. Going to butcher here is just a much more unique experience. You can very likely get meat cheaper around, but the quality here is outstanding. It really is. Remember that their prices are still extremely cheap compared to butchers in the Nordic countries, in the UK and so on. This review is only for the butcher, but they safely receive 5 beautiful stars. I haven't had such a good piece of beef for a long time. Actually this ranks as one of the best steak experiences ever. Meaty, tender and fatty. Just how a piece of beef should be. Just go here, take some amazing meat home to your trulli and grill. You'll be one very happy person.

The steak they brought out was inedible super chewy and tough and we still got charged for the filet. The veggie slices were paper thin and the pasta didn't have much flavor. It's a cute location in the courtyard maybe we had bad luck on our sitting.

The famous local dish is called bombetta. Little rolls of meaty pleasure, roasted in a wood fired oven, dusted with bread crumbs and salt. We had three varieties: the pork, which is pork leg slices, with some fontina cheese wrapped inside, wrapped in bacon, then there was wild boar and lastly buffalo with arugula and cheese. All were delicious. We wanted to sample everything they had, so we went a little overboard, starting with their superb lardo, paper thin slices of pork fat, seasoned with a little pepper and salt. Also had mixed salamis, pulian bean based hummus, some crispy barley dish, pickled vegetables, and oven roasted potatoes, all very well prepared and delicious. The wine was exceptional - local Pulia wine: a Negromaro, selva Rossa reserva. Awesome value at $25. Highly recommend this place

Simply fantastic! We had amazing 'primi' (orichiette ao sugo for my 3 year old, seafood pasta and…read morezucchini with gamberi (shrimp) pasta for the grown ups). We were amazed at the quality of the dishes and the very reasonable portion sizes. Prices were also competitive ($10-13 euros each). Lots of shrimp and seafood. I was amazed my kid ate 90% of her adult portioned pasta after stuffing herself with all the olives she could put her hands on! For 'secondi' we had the fritto misto - octopus, shrimp, tuna and squid. The house white wine was fantastic! All together came down to $60 euro. Service is a bit slow but it's the Italian way. Oh, and since they only had room outside (we didn't have a reservation) they brought us blankets because it was a bit chilly. Win-win!

Outrageous! Me and…read moremy family made a reservation here at La Locanda Porta Picc and we were extremely disappointed and frustrated. The waiter who seated us was very rude and unfriendly; when we told him our reservation he said nothing and looked at a paper, then beckoned with his pen to sit down at a table. Seemed very mad we wanted to dine at their restaurant. Took forever to serve us, and then he dropped a glass bottle onto the floor next to us and didn't even apologize or acknowledge the fact that he dropped it next to our family. Told me to move my chair so he could clean it, absolutely unacceptable and inappropriate behavior. Food was mediocre and took a very long time to come out whilst everyone was served. Ambiance wasn't the best either. We definitely will not return and do not recommend!
