It was a little off the beaten track, next to a small canal and a bridge. They had a seafood bolognese set menu with deep fried seafood and veggies for my secondi and a salad for 19€. Seemed a little in the cheap side to be good, the food came so fast that again I didn't think it would be good, but it was great. My kids had the gnocchi in truffle sauce and the carbonara and both were divine! Like I think about them and wish I could go back. My seafood was fresh and tender, the pasta was perfectly cooked and it all just had flavor! The best meal I've had in my trip so far. If you're in Venice, do yourself a favor and try out this very affordable very flavorful restaurant with the nice ambience and super helpful English speaking waiters. For the main course we had a pizza veneta (with salsiccia) and penne arrabiata. Then there was also a delicious sorbet, donated by the house! The food tasted delicious, also the wine, and the friendly staff contributed to a pleasant evening.

The place was full when we walked in but they seated us immediately at the only 2 person table left. Service was fast and polite and they even offered us English language menus as they saw me struggling to translate the Italian! Food was hot and beautiful seasoned, I asked the waitress if I could move in. Yes it's hip and there's no art on the walls but the fact it was packed from start to finish says they are doing something right and the something right is the food which speaks for itself. I explained this to my husband, but the food in the pictures did not look that big to him ...so we ended up getting two different entrees... So... The Good : The food came out very hot and fresh! The pasta was well cooked Value for the amount of food is excellent The Bad: The flavor was so- so. The bread they gave us was also so- so. We also ordered an artichoke appetizer that was pretty damn good, But the server... "You can order pizza or pasta, but not both." I asked why, and his response was that they come out at different times. Really? So I asked which one took longer, and he said it was the pasta. My next question: "I don't care if mine comes out before or after theirs, but could y'all just put mine in the oven about 10 minutes before the pasta is ready to be served?" His response: "That's impossible." Though I was frustrated, I left it alone. I figured it was a cultural thing. Cone to find out, it was a La Lanterna thing. Perhaps our server didn't like Americans? Perhaps he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer? Or maybe he was just lazy. Shame on him. The pasta dishes were really good, as was the artichoke appetizer. I'll never know about the pizza.

I'll start here - the manager approached me while I was sitting alone and asked me where I'm from. I said California to which he replied "no, originally. Are you Chinese because you have..." and he pulls his eyes back like a fucking racist then proceeds to compliment me on my beauty? It was a confusing and shitty experience. Then they bring out the most hard and dry bread basket along with a half ass Spritz. I ordered the Carbonara, which I expect to be excellent since I've had it many times in Rome and have made it from scratch myself... it was trash. I ate four bites and had to stop. I think they use cream instead of egg yolks. Also, they've decided to omit the prices from the "tourist" menu. Shady, boring and inedible. Do better.

The service here was super friendly and welcoming and made us feel like we were dining at a local's home! After starting with a basket of bread, we had the Spaghetti Frutti di Mare, made of spaghetti in tomato sauce, topped with mussels, clams, squid, fish, and prawns. While tasty, the tomato sauce was overwhelming in flavor and the pasta slightly overcooked. I was a much bigger fan of the Antipasto di Pesce, a plate that came with an assortment of seafood appetizers including octopus salad, two white fish spreads, a sardine topped with onions, two head-on shrimps, two mantis shrimps (canoce), a mussel and scallop baked with Parmesan and bread crumbs, and polenta topped with schie (little shrimps). We also had the Grigliata Mista di Pesce, a plate of mixed grilled seafood including a shrimp, a squid, and three different types of fish. All the seafood was fresh and delicious, though I was especially partial to the head-on shrimps and the white fish spreads!
