I came here twice, but it seems that the weekend is the best time to come if you're wanting to see a more livelier park, with more people, boats cruising and the party scene. There was quite a variety of boats/yachts cruising along the river. Some consisted of booze cruises, free water taxi's, a variety of tour boats, and I even spotted a cute Tiki bar floating along the river. I was also surprised to see the $600 million dollar Wanderlust yacht! It was pretty mind blowing in person. The few restaurants they have here were open at noon during the weekend, but if you're coming on the weekday, expect them to be open closer to the evening. It was mainly the Wharf and Rivertail that had special hours. There is plenty of seating available to sit and watch the boats cruising by, but some are directly in the sun, so bring a hat or umbrella for coverage incase you can't find a spot in the shade. The best part for me at this park was getting to see Iguanas casually strolling through the grass. I was blown away at how huge they were! They were like little dinosaurs. I kept hearing of possibly seeing reptiles, but to actually come across them unexpectedly was a little scary at first, but once I seen them slowly walking away from me; all was good. You don't see anything like this in California lol. I really loved seeing the beautiful vibrant green lizards! You can spot them hanging out in the trees or bushes. I recommend taking a close look at the beautiful trees that surround this park. I spotted air plants; which I have never seen growing on a tree. It was so cool to see the beauty of nature in a different environment than what I am used to seeing. The tropical vibes here are magical.

However, I would like to file a formal complaint regarding the park's turtle advertising. There is an overwhelmingly large amount of signs warning drivers about turtle crossings. And yet... not a single turtle. What I did see, though, was an impressive number of men (some shirtless) with backpacks emerging from various wooded areas. More backpack guys than wildlife. Significantly more. I came for turtles. I like turtles. The park itself is lovely, but the turtle-to-sign ratio is wildly misleading. Feels a bit like a marketing campaign. A ruse, if you will. My boyfriend was so excited about the possibility of turtles. Then there were no turtles. Thanks, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. You made my boyfriend cry.

This was a charitable event to support Kids In Distress (KID) and Family Central (FCI), serving more than 20,000 children and families each year across South Florida. There were food trucks, live Dj, fun zone for the kids, face painting and kid Olympics. You're able to adopt a duck for $5. Each adoption goes towards helping a child in need. A duck race was held where all adopted ducks were let loose in the river to race. The winner of the race wins $10,000. This was such a fun thing to do with the kids. Looking forward to supporting this event next year!

Nicely laid out nature trails with great informative signs along the way. The trails are smooth and cut decently to allow walkers a great view of nature. Unfortunately while we were there the manatee experience was closed for repairs. They had an educational center for the kids, that my daughter enjoyed.

While it's not a huge area, it is perfectly sized and quaint with well-lit waterfront sections that even has a few benches and some ornate statues with historical importance all throughout. It's only a block or so away from the strip with all the dining and shopping options you'd like yet it's tucked away in the corner where there's plenty of parking across the park. It's a nice stroll. My favorite part is the corner of Tarpon & Tarpon just a few steps away from the park with the beautiful tree-lined bend proving that Broward ain't so vanilla after all. It's a nice escape from the Miami bustle & the breeze is always blowing even in the peak of summer so switching up your dog walking routine and coming here is certainly a sight for sore eyes.

I see many people getting in the water with their kayaks or boats. Easy and relaxing. There's just a few street parking spaces, so driving into the area is a bit of a challenge. One thing that I can say is that most people here are very relaxed. They seem just happy to enjoy this haven so close to downtown Fort Lauderdale. You can hear the birds chirping most of the time. You can come and go as you please…read more As you leave the parking lot to go to the beach, the flags indicated that there was moderate surf and/or currents (Medium Hazard) and a warning that there were Man o' War, Jellyfish and Stingray. We were there on July 2nd and I was surprised that it wasn't crowded. Not sure if it was due to the excessive amounts of seaweed in the water and on the shore which I forgot to take a picture of. The seaweed on the shore was about a foot wide. Needless to say, we didn't go in the water. The ladies' restroom was clean and had soap. We would definitely come back here the next time we want to get some sun.
