On this beautiful day, I rode my bike along Himmarshee Street and veered off one road to the south along the historic district of Riverwalk with scenic views of the New River just in time to watch the railroad draw bridge open its rusty steel jaws to allow yachts to pass. In this area of the Linear Park, which was densely fortified with plants, trees, winding bike and walk paths, there were restaurants, historic landmarks, cultural exhibits and monuments. read more

My first visit to Riverwalk Linear Park was quite the adventure! I honestly didn't know what to expect so it made my day more exciting to see what was in store at this beautiful park. I came here twice, but it seems that the weekend is the best time to come if you're wanting to see a more livelier park, with more people, boats cruising and the party scene. There was quite a variety of boats/yachts cruising along the river. Some consisted of booze cruises, free water taxi's, a variety of tour boats, and I even spotted a cute Tiki bar floating along the river. I was also surprised to see the $600 million dollar Wanderlust yacht! It was pretty mind blowing in person. The few restaurants they have here were open at noon during the weekend, but if you're coming on the weekday, expect them to be open closer to the evening. It was mainly the Wharf and Rivertail that had special hours. There is plenty of seating available to sit and watch the boats cruising by, but some are directly in the sun, so bring a hat or umbrella for coverage incase you can't find a spot in the shade. The best part for me at this park was getting to see Iguanas casually strolling through the grass. I was blown away at how huge they were! They were like little dinosaurs. I kept hearing of possibly seeing reptiles, but to actually come across them unexpectedly was a little scary at first, but once I seen them slowly walking away from me; all was good. You don't see anything like this in California lol. I really loved seeing the beautiful vibrant green lizards! You can spot them hanging out in the trees or bushes. I recommend taking a close look at the beautiful trees that surround this park. I spotted air plants; which I have never seen growing on a tree. It was so cool to see the beauty of nature in a different environment than what I am used to seeing. The tropical vibes here are magical. read more

This Linear Park always has something going on....it could be walking, jogging, kayaking, boating, sailing, picnicking, or attending a live music event. Last night we went there for the Rhythm and Brews event, sponsored by Funky Buddha. It was so much fun. They had a live music band playing 60s, 70s and 80s songs. They had lawn games for the kids like corn holes and connect four and they had food trucks and beer tents. The setting is one of the prettiest and they keep this park very clean and tidy....very seldom you see trash laying around. There are plenty of trash receptacles and people care about maintaining this park. A treasure in the downtown Fort Lauderdale area. read more

Wonderful park spanning the banks of the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale. I've spent many a lunch hour sitting on one of the several benches watching the boats go by. The park runs from the historic Stranahan House to the Performing Arts Center with several parks, benches and gazebos along the way. Many of the downtown restaurants have patios facing the Riverwalk so it's an easy scenic way to get from one to the other while by passing the busy city streets. Check it out next time you're downtown. read more

A super cool area in Fort lauderdale. A nice walkway running alongside the river, great spot to be and see all the boats going up and down. It is also near the very nice and popular Las Olas THE main street n hub where all the shops and restaurants are. The Riverwalk also passes historical Stranahan house. This park provides a beautiful stroll along the New River from the Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum up to Esplande Park across from the Museum of Science and Discovery. Along the way you can make use of any of the benches and picnic tables lining the river. There are also two beautiful gazebos that can be rented for use during weddings. Majestic old trees line the path. A fixture in this area is the River House, a historic building that has been used on and off through the years as a restaurant. After being closed it seems to be open again as a cafe offering catering. It is so nice to see it open again because the location is spectacular. Also along the river is an over sized Adirondack chair painted with a welcome from Ft. Lauderdale perfect for a tourist picture. During the winter holiday season this area is decorated with lights to coincide with the Winterfest Boat Parade. You can often see some of the parade boats docked here before the event. Nearby is Himmarshee Village, an area with a lot of dinning options. After a meal this is the perfect spot to take a stroll and watch the boats cruise down the New River. read more

My daily countdown till lunch break aka beating the path of the river walk is the best part of my day! Nothing trumps the beauty of the water, boats and strolling down the pathway on a nice, sunny day. Even if you're in a lazy mood there are tons of benches to just kick back and enjoy your lunch on. One thing that's really cool about the area is the a outdoor bandshell/theater where they have live performances on several Wednesday's out of the month. There is also a small fountain that ppl gather around and an obstacle course where you can do sit-ups/push-ups etc. The river walk is also home to a number of various restaurants to choose from, including the downtowner, Briny's Irish pub and The Pirate Republic Bar. It's also the host of some really cool festivals such as; the seafood fest, stone crab fest and jazz fest. It's such a beautiful area of FTL and well worth checking it out for yourself! read more

Perhaps in my old age I am learning to appreciate green spaces more and more. Riverwalk Linear Park is one of the best places to take a stroll, enjoy the views and snap some photos that will make your out-of-town friends super jealous. The walking path is lined with shady trees, benches, over excited squirrels and huge lizards, but the real highlight is the waterway. As the boats cruise by, the waves will almost rock you to sleep. The rock lined waterway makes for some great photos and I've seen multiple people come to do photoshoots here - even took some shots of the wife in her crazy yoga poses recently. We used to grab a coffee at Brew (no longer at this location) and walk up and down the path up to the science museum. Relaxing and really makes me excited we have places like this. The strip just a block away is lined with restaurants and bars, so go grab a lunch then walk it off at RLP. PS - the train tracks behind it also make for some cool photo ops - BUT BE CAREFUL. =) read more

I love love love the outdoors. Even if it is scorching hot outside, humid as can be, I'll find a haven of slight coolness or shade, I will survive. Excited to run into the Riverwalk. I'd never been before. It is a perfect place to play with your dog, take a walk, jog, or bike ride, see the pretty river, and the surrounding buildings. There's a water taxi stop here too. I really like it here, and I can't wait to come back, and see more. Museum of Discovery and Sciece is across the street from the Riverwalk. Also, that same street, SW 2nd street has a good amount of restaurants and bars to stop at. read more

Jazz along the river on Sunday. Different bands set up in each of the different gazebos. Some folks dancing. Lots of room to walk and many people bring their dogs. Bring your lawn chairs! The cigarette and cigar smoke can be a bit annoying, but ti's outside and it seems that would be an exemption to the Florida Clean Indoor Air Act. Other than the music, there isn't much else here. It's a nice walk along the New River and you can look at the boats. read more

Riverwalk Linear Park is a gorgeous absolutely splendid walkway with green spaces and beautiful views running along the north side of the New River. Unfortunately it is by name often confused as being a part of the 80 odd million dollar taxpayer nightmare and financial fiasco of an ill-conceived Las Olas Riverfront development. It's true that they were developed simultaneously and as a part of a singular plan but whereas the Las Olas Riverfront was singularly intended to be commercial in nature, Riverwalk Linear Park was not. The park was intended to be a people's park and remains a successful people's park today though parts of it do run along the abandoned store fronts and proposed teardown areas of Las Olas Riverfront development. One can hardly not be taken with a sense of awe when strolling Riverwalk Linear Park with the boating activities on the New River, the waters, the towering buildings, bridges, shade trees and scenery one encounters along the way. read more

I love parks and I love nature so this place is in my realm of happiness. It's a pathway along the water with plenty of benches to sit on. There's lots of trees and shade so you won't get too hot from the sun. It's a great place for a stroll with your dog or a jog. You can see boats float on by; some of the boats seem like they're having fun since they're dancing and blasting music. There's high rise apartments that lines the water. Theres historical and vacant buildings as well as a mini outdoor gym. There's the drawbridge that sounds an alarm and goes down when there's an incoming train. It is kind of sketchy at night because there's lots of loiterers and homeless people hanging around (wouldn't want to be out there at night alone). Briny Irish Pub is the only lively building on this stretch. I actually met a ghost tour group in front of that pub and he walked us around giving us a brief story about each building. You're also walking distance to Himmarshee Street which is lined with bars and restaurants. Overall, it's a nice and relaxing spot to take an afternoon stroll. read more

First, this place is beautiful and peaceful and I love the walk along the New River and Intercoastal waterway and the view of the water, boats, Broward Performing Arts Center, the nearby condos and the park area. For that alone, Riverwalk deserves the 4 stars I've given it. I've been here more than a few times for the Winterfest Boat Parade which lines up and then departs from this area, I've brought dates here as it's a nice leisurely area to walk around, talk and have dinner and/or drinks on nearby Los Olas or the Himmarshee district. I've also come here before or after performances at the nearby PAC. While I love Riverwalk itself and think the brick lined paths along the New River and up and over the train tracks and past all the historic buildings and former homes are awesome, and they have lots of benches for sitting and gazebos and band stands for entertainment and photo opportunities, I think it's a shame that they weren't able to make a better go of this area commercially. I remember just a few years ago when nearly all the storefronts at the Riverfront complex were full of bars, restaurants and stores. Unfortunately, the last few times I've come here, nearly all those same businesses were lifeless or abandoned altogether. It'd be nice to see them get that all back once again! read more

Beautiful pavered walkway along the river. It runs for longer than a mile. There are some homeless people along it at times, but they leave you alone. There are restrooms in Esplande Park that you can use. You can park along Himarshee Street which has metered parking or flat rate lots. It is a great place to take a walk or bike ride to enjoy the beauty of the river. read more

Beautiful place to take a stroll along the river. You can jump on one of the tour boats or the water taxi here. People watching is great too, you really see all walks of life at this park. This path connects you from the Broward Center of the Performing Arts right on down to Las Olas Blvd.. There is even a free boat that is strictly for taking you from one side of the river to the other. read more

What an enchanting surprise! We stumbled upon the river walk while enjoying an after dinner walk soon after moving to Florida. It is a beautifully landscaped park along the New River in Ft Lauderdale, it is filled with great benched areas and gazebos, with lush greenery and beautiful natural wildlife. Great restaurants along the way and endless landscapes and jus plain pretty views. You can grab a water taxi and explore from the water and ad an extra adventure to your day. It it's a perfect place for a picnic, romantic date night walks and great to bring all your out of town guests for an impressive tour of your city. I couldn't have been more happy to find out that this is available to me daily in my new backyard. I recommend you perhaps make reservations near by and take the extra time to walk as much as you can fit in. read more

This River Walk is gorgeous. Wide enough for dozens, yet intimate enough that you can lose yourself to your thoughts on a clear day. Countless marathons begin and end here and festivals try to incorporate portions of it into their themes. The walk begins just off Las Olas, ends near the Broward Performing Arts Center and strolls by restaurants, the boat tours, both Huizenga and Esplanade Park, the museums of discovery/science and arts and right past the BEST FRESH JUICE SMOOTHIES!!! On the first Sunday of the month the River Walk is the location of JAZZ FEST!! Definitely check that out too! read more

Riverwalk Park is a perfect spot for local gatherings, farmer's markets, and small fairs. It is a very well maintained walkway with lots of greenery, benches and shade! The one thing I thought I'd like to see added to this park after a Sunday morning stroll with my pups is a water fountain. The only place for my boys to get water is the OB house, but lesson for me is to carry water. Otherwise, there are doggy bags on the trail - it is dog friendly. It is a great place for a variety of activities - from a romantic stroll, a picnic, enjoying Sunday Jazz Brunch, or a place to take a break from a night of drinking. Riverwalk Park is a unique Ft. We walked pretty much the whole distance of it, on both sides of the river. It was nice, with shade trees, benches and a restroom available when I needed it. You can gawk at the big boats going by, but there were also a few small ones for hire that looked cute. Obviously, the commercial development didn't all happen as they had hoped, and it was sad to see vacant spots in whaideal locations. However, it was great to have the access... which is not nothing in that area because of all the private boat dock frontage that restricts public access to the waterfront. read more

Just did Jazz Fest Last Sunday and Oh Boy, What a wonderful time. Great weather, beautiful views and the very best music. The musicians and singers were tops and the crowd enjoyed every song. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! My husband and I loved our walk on the Riverwalk! Gorgeous views of the water and the boats/yachts along the way. There are also restaurants and a few stores along the walk. Plenty of benches and places to take a seat along the way. Mostly just a pleasant space for runners, walkers, and folks with dogs to enjoy the outdoors. Would definitely recommend this location for a relaxing afternoon outdoors! read more

This is such a lovely area to walk along with a lot of pretty historical houses and boats passing by. It's just a really great 'Florida' place that makes you really realize you are in south Florida. It allows dogs which is awesome, something I am not used to myself for nicer parks like this, and there is a lot to walk along. This is a nicely landscaped walkway along the river, with access to the performing arts center and the museum of science with the only full-sized IMAX screen in south Florida. Water taxis ply the river, and there are numerous draw bridges that frequently open with characteristic ringing bells and three horn blasts. I wish the city would put more effort into attracting the restaurants and galleries that are sorely needed here to make this area complete. As it is, it's a nice stroll through a ghost town. Many businesses are shuttered up. You would think with the condos towering overhead, and the event crowds attracted to the museum and center, that this would be a bustling foodie and art scene. What's not to love about this? The jewel of Fort Lauderdale for sure. All of the great Ft. Lauderdale landmarks are within reach. Museums, food, the shops on Las Olas, what's not to love? Take a stroll with the family (pets included) and enjoy the wonderful view (boats, condos, wildlife) without a care in the world. I really enjoyed my walk here, even though it was scorching hot (around 92-93 degrees) I found that there was plenty of shade around. Though not the absolute best place to walk around with newborns...dogs on the other hand this may be one of the best around. I really enjoyed the areas around the riverfront, however you'll note that once you are closer to train-track area you'll see an abundance of homeless people, this is sad for them but it's still a beautiful area and can definitely see this part of town be updated. Also to be of note there is a free water trolley, though they weren't around when we were walking, could be great for additional views. read more
