Conveniently located near Times Square, I came here after spending an hour or so just taking in the scenery. The hustle and bustle made me want to just chill out and enjoy some bomb ass food. I got one of their most famous dishes, the chicken and lamb over rice. It's quite simple: chicken kabob, lamb shwarma, rice, lettuce, and their out of this world white sauce. The whole combo just mindf**ked me. I swear I was on such a food high after the first few bites that I just phased out everything around me. The meat is so deliciously juicy and well marinated. The rice is bursting with seasoning. The sauce just brings it all together in this magical David Blaine-like way that you can't possibly fathom how someone could come up with such a simple yet delectable creation. The Dal Wagon serves food that's much different from your typical halal chicken and rice food. It's pretty much street Indian food which is very tasty. He even gave us a free sample of their chicken kabob. I told them it was called Koobideh and they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language (oops, Koobideh is actually Persian). it was very good. When we expressed concerns about being too full to have a huge plate or wanting a small portion, he just said fine and he made a smaller portion for less money. Tonight I just wanted a snack, and I have been meaning to try their samosas. The side of the truck says 2 samosas = $3. I asked for one samosa and a masala chai. He gave me the chai and TWO samosas (was it the cute face or the fact that it was 5:15 pm?). But he still only charged me $3. He also gave me sugar for the tea and a packet of chutney. The chai is warm and spicy, but more watery than milky. On its own, its a 2 star cup of tea. The samosas are a good size, about tennis ball sized, with a good shell and fried to crispy perfection. The inside contents of the vegetable samosa are 99% potato. They're not spicy (in the capsaicin way) but have a lot of spices in them, like fenugreek, cumin, etc. I wasn't impressed by the filling (where are the peas, onions, carrots?) but for the price and size they still make the perfect snack.
