Oshen was absolutely the best; from start the finish. The ambiance is clean and a beautiful crisp atmosphere with lovely decorations throughout. The waiter, Javier, came right over to us, greeted us and told us some drink and food recommendations. He was so friendly and you could tell how much he enjoyed working there. We began with some delicious appetizers- make sure you try the edamame (the sauce is divine!) and the tuna tataki was perfect for the table to share. We then ordered drinks; cocktails and beer. Wow, the cocktails came out with it's own presentation! Just so tasty! The restaurant has different servers that were always checking on our table, filling up our drinks, and making sure we had everything we needed. We moved on to ordering different dishes to share and boy, it didn't disappoint. Our waiter recommended the Truffle Avocado Tartare and wow! You have to get this! The truffle was simply amazing. It was also perfect to share with the table. I ordered the sushi bowl and it was nice to "build you own" bowl. I did the spicy tuna and it was so filling and yummy. This is something that would make a perfect lunch order and I definitely will be ordering this again when I come back. We did a few different options for sushi and I would recommend the Philly Maki and the Sanshu! Wow! Delicious! **A few things that stood out for me was: 1. I ordered a lunch order for takeout, and I was really happy with the experience. I ordered right before I left home, and my food was ready when I arrived 10 minutes later. The server greeted me and opened the door to welcome me. The host/manager was really friendly and made sure I had all the sauces. The restaurant was modern but cozy. It was a large lunch crowd. The food was delicious and packaged very well. We had the bento plate which was only $12 and I split a sushi roll with my husband. It was all very filling. My wife and I dined at Oshen for the first time this past Friday, and Jose was our primary server. We enjoyed the dining room ambiance and energy. The wait staff sang Happy Birthday to two groups and kept the atmosphere upbeat. As for the food, we really enjoyed the spicy tuna tartar with the crispy rice and the seaweed salad for starters. My wife enjoyed the lobster roll and spicy tuna roll. I also had the salmon nigiri and unagi nigiri. It was fantastic. The service was on point and very attentive. We ordered the salted caramel cake to take home as our dessert. By the way, it goes really well with Andy's vanilla frozen custard. In all, we are planning to head back to Oshen. We've been to Oshen several times, and it has been an amazing experience every time. The ambiance is cool, clean, and lively. We've sat both at tables and at the bar. Sitting at our table, servers are always so attentive and ready to serve; they give detailed suggestions without being pushy when I've asked for their opinion. When sitting at the bar, the bartenders engage with patrons and make it fun experience chatting with us. As you can see from the pics I posted, the food looks amazing! It all tastes even better than it looks! My favorite is the Hamachi Jalapeño, because of that delicious sauce, the bits of cilantro, the crunch of the radishes, and the tender, fresh fish. Food is great. Service is the challenge. We always feel rushed. The cadence is go go go. Our water glass drops to 75%, two people rush over to fill. It is not a dining experience, it is good food quickly. I can't take business there since there.is no private time to converse. It is what it is, but I prefer not to be rushed to eat sushi. Will continue to dine there, but never a special occasion where the company is as important as the food. If you can't enjoy your company . . . I think they should read unreasonable hospitality to truly understand what makes a restaurant great. read more

A modern and upscale sushi and Japanese fusion that is a must try. My wife got the Wasabi Martini. It's a unique take but it really works and sets the stage for the bites to come. We started with the Hamachi jalapeño crudo. The jalapeño dressing is made in house and makes this dish. It was delicious. For rolls, we experienced the Hono-Maki and the Sanshu. Both very different but loaded with flavor and truthful some of the best sushi I've had in Charlotte. Personally, the red chili on top of the Hono-Maki made it my favorite. You cannot go wrong with either. The entire experience was made possible and enjoyable by our outstanding waiter, Camilo. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and really elevated the entire experience. From the moment we walked into Oshen, we felt genuinely welcomed. We were seated immediately, and our waiter came right over--super personable, incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and fantastic at making recommendations. Unfortunately, I don't recall his name since it's been a couple of weeks, but we're actually heading back for our second visit tonight and couldn't be more excited. On our first visit, we started with the spiced edamame pods and the jalapeño hamachi crudo--and wow. That sauce is absolutely addicting. You'll want to keep it for the rest of your meal. We also tried several sushi rolls, including Doragon roll, and everything was exceptionally fresh and beautifully presented. I also love the attention to detail throughout the restaurant--from the minimalist place settings to the overall vibe. It feels elevated but still comfortable. One thing that really stood out was seeing the general manager (Anthony) walking around, checking in on guests and making sure everything was coming out perfectly. That level of care goes a long way. This is truly my favorite restaurant in Charlotte, hands down. I can't wait to return and try the miso soup and the scallops that are fired tableside with a small butane torch--it looks so fun and exciting. Do not hesitate to try this place. It is absolutely worth the money, and the experience is top-notch every step of the way. Our second time back was just as great as the first experience. I ordered Oshen for the first time via UberEats the other day and wow. It was SO GOOD I just had to come and leave a review. Not only was the presentation spectacular with eco friendly packaging, but by far the freshest, beautifully curated rolls I've probably ever eaten, and I eat a lot of sushi. Maybe not the widest variety but that's okay when you have rolls that taste this good. Looking forward to going in person and enjoying the entire experience soon. Now, as a very basic white girl, the food wasn't it for me. The drinks were!! I loved the non alcoholic yuzu white peach sparkling water. Others raved about the margs. If you are a fish person, this is a great place. I'm not used to the raw fish, they do have a fun presentation for flambéing it in front of you. The edamame (needed salt) and shishito peppers are usually my favorite appetizers, but everything was charred to add a grill smoky flavor. Even my vegetable fried rice had big chunky veggies with a char smoky taste. Personally it wasn't for me, maybe I was having an off day. I would love to be able to say it was expensive because the portions are not huge. But we all know that restaurants prices in the city are what they are. read more

Tried this new Restaurant on Rea Rd last night. Ambience was great. They did a great job of changing the atmosphere. This new restaurant is owned by the Viva chicken group. Waiter was attentive and answered all questions. My friends ordered the Sushi rolls and seemed to enjoy them. I has the Shrimp teriyaki and that's went things South. The shrimp were tiny and after the first bite I could tell they were pre cooked frozen imported shrimp. Very chewy and tasteless. The waiter came by to check on us and I expressed my displeasure.
