Summery: prescribed antidepressants, and it was the wrong thing for me! Basically persuaded me!
Okay so I came to look for a primary physician, recommended here by OSF in Rockford for going there for panic attacks.
TMI- but i never had panic attacks till that month. So this was very new to me.
So I went to the belvidere OSF not knowing what to expect. I was nervous. I didn't know what my solution should be.
So i told this to my Doc. He was Divyesh Morker, MD. And I said I was uncomfortable going on daily medication.
He seemed like he was in a hurry. Before he even came in I heard him in the other room with another patient, I heard him quickly prescribe antibiotics, leave the room, a few minutes passed, and he was in my room. I knew it was him from his voice.
He quickly convinced me that I should go on antidepressants, he made it seem like it wasn't a big deal. You'll take them now, and when your over your episode (why are doctors so afraid of calling it anxiety/depression) you'll stop taking them!
He went over the side effects quickly, reassuring me they weren't that bad, and I was on my way.
Later after speaking with friends, and family I realized it was not for me. My friend told me they shouldn't prescribe anti-depressants unless i expirienced anxiety/panic attacks/depression daily- which i didn't. Also, anti-depression meds should be considered a last resort, and they take months to actually take effect, and coming off them has bad side effects too, so why the doctor made it seem like 'oh you just put a band-aid on your life for a couple of months then take it off' is so so bad in my opinion.
I took a healthy approach. Stopped drinking coffee, and started exercising daily. I told myself that If i didnt feel better, I would try the anti-depressants. However, I was back to normal couple weeks after. I believe I was just having a stressful month and thats why this was happening and should have been prescribed with panic attack medication but thats just me. Anyway, maybe there are better doc.s at this location but I'm not coming back. read more
