This is the best Mexican food this side of California. The people are friendly and the food is spectacular.

It was good not great. I had a chicken, soft taco and a beef soft taco. There were beans and rice on the side. The only thing that stood out as really good was the hot sauce. This is a small Mexican rest just past providence marketplace. We have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the area and thought we'd give this place a try. We walked in and asked the staff what they recommend since we haven't been there before. They were very helpful and gave us recommendations for their favorite options. We settled on the shredded beef crispy taco and al pastor soft taco. My husband got the carne asada soft taco and the shredded beef crispy taco. We also shared the carne asada fries. 3.5 Stars. Simple, fresh Mexican food at a casual counter spot. Pros - Super Affordable. Easy and quick to order. Food feels *fresh* and healthy - I had the Surf & Turf Burrito ($10.25) and I liked that burrito was not loaded with beans and rice and cheese all that jazz that make it super heavy - just protein and guacamole, yum! There are some more fun items on the menu like the french fry - stuffed California burrito. The "secret sauce" is super creamy and delicious. Guacamole tastes homemade and great as well. Cons - The burritos are not grilled - aw :( Maybe I'm spoiled since I am from California. It's so much better when the outside is seared a bit and not just a floppy tortilla, lol. We used to go to Chipotle at least once a week, but stopped going after learning about Oscar's. They have better prices, larger portions, and friendly workers. Danny and his team always have a smile on their face, and they make sure your meal is perfect. I love getting the chicken quesadilla. It js MASSIVE and FILLED with chicken. No skimping out here! The tortillas have a little salty, crispy texture, which also adds to the flavor. Plus, it comes with a side of quac, beans, and rice that you can eat here or take home for leftovers. My wife and son love the tacos. Both soft and hard shell options are available for shrimp, beef, chicken, fish and more. Aside from the normal sodas, they have horchata and other drinks for a more authentic experience. They also serve beer, margaritas, and other adult beverages if you're feeling frisky. My order, the classic California burrito, is perfect for the indecisive diner. Loaded with steak, french fries, guac and cheese this baddie is all flavor no filler. My son got the bean and cheese burrito, it's ok. Basically a burrito filled with side options. My wife ordered the Arizona burrito, which is marinated steak, potatoes, pico de gallo, and shredded cheese. I was surprised at how much I like this belly bomb! I loved the marinated steak! Oscar's is a solid taco shop and it's been a nice addition to the Providence area. We've been here a few times now and each meal has been quick, very tasty, and very affordable. I've enjoyed several of their tacos and they're quite flavorful. My wife really likes the steak nachos and gets that every time we go. The portions here are quite large and a quesadilla can easily feed two adults, which is awesome. It's a good place to grab a quick and tasty meal and we'll definitely continue to come here. read more

I actually really like these tacos! It's a chain, so I was skeptical, but my boyfriend brought me home street tacos once and I was converted to a fan. I like the chicken & carnitas street tacos! They come on two little corn tortillas with onions, cilantro, and lime. It's only $10 for 4 (you can get up to 2 of 2 kinds) plus a drink, and they're pretty filling because they're packed with food. I like to add just a side of guacamole and some of their green sauce. Fabulous! But, I'm bumping this to a 3-star since being charged for the tiny side of guacamole for my tacos has been inconsistent & the amount of meat they put on the tacos GREATLY varies, making it sometimes totally not worth the price. You order at the counter and they'll call out your number. They have seating inside and outside, but it feels more like a takeout place. Also, there's a private parking lot. read more

I am from Southern California so I have eaten great Mexican food all my life, and I am 57 years old. The shredded beef taco was as good as any I have ever eaten. The carne asada taco was average: you could not taste that the meat was marinated and was cut in strips rather than cubes making it harder to eat as you have to bite through it. I had to cut mine with a knife. Rice was ok, mild flavor, nothing weird in it. Chips were ok, not cut and freshly fried like you would think they would be since they charge for them. Salsa was very good. Just enough flavor not to overpower whatever you're putting it on. They have two different types of hot sauce in bottles if you want more heat. They have combos which include two items, rice beans, and a drink for $11.25 which seems like a pretty good price. I will be back. read more

I was so excited that Oscar's was coming to MJ. I frequented the downtown location for years, it was super convenient from my job at the time. I was craving the chorizo egg and cheese breakfast burrito but with hash browns. I ordered online to pick up. Right as I was about to click checkout I decided to add done guac. It was a Friday, a long week, do I decided if imma treat myself let's go all out. My order was ready in 10 minutes, you gave your choice of hot or mild hot sauce when you get there. I love spicy!! I chose the spice red sauce. Y'all!! When I got home, I took my first bite without any sauce. It was delicious, very flavorful, it was still hot as well. The food lacked a little flavor but over all it was good. The service was great, staff were very nice and friendly, and we got our food pretty quickly after placing our order. Very clean restaurant which is a plus in my opinion. They were a go to for mexican food but cut corners now. Good luck asking for green sauce as the owners limit you to 2. I called in three weeks in a row asking for green sauces and 3 orders in a row they left us with 1 green sauce. Sounds stupid but when you order food for the whole family and there is 1 condiment for 5 people its annoying. 3 weeks in a row I call to confirm we needed green sauces and 3 times in a row they dont, disappointing. read more

Wanted so to like this place as we loved the pizza place that was here (pre-COVID). But frankly the food was meh. I ordered a the shrimp fajitas. Cooked about right but sadly flat in taste. The rice and refried beans were plentiful but again, nothing to brag about. Unfortunately there was much guacamole or pico. The flour tortillas were hot and the fantastic- the best part of this meal. G ordered a delux burrito that was anything but delicious. She added cheese - the best thing about this mess. When asked, her one word description was "Gross" and she might have been kind. Sure, the proportions were large but the one bite I had made my fajitas seem sublime. Drinks were Pepsi products plus a root beer and a pineapple soda (which was good, if not sugary). They said they are working on adding ice tea to the drink selection. Prices were reasonable, which may explain the lines and the crowds. Or that folks want to get out (now that we can). So yes, working thru some things at this new place but doubtful we will give it a second chance. There are too many other good places to eat in MJ. Too bad this isn't another one of those. BTW, no sense that dogs were allowed inside but there is outside seating. Also, no COVID precautions or restrictions. Lived there for 50 years... one of the first things I did after moving in was look for Mexican food...Found Oscars via Google..and thoght..I wonder if they're connected to the Oscars we had in Poway...My first trip to this Oscars, talked with the owner and found out they're from San Diego !!! SCORE !!! And sure enough the food is just what I was hoping for. My only criticism is the tortilla chips...for my liking they're a little tooooo thin and easily break/snap when "scooping"...I think they need to be a little thicker. This hasn't deterred me from going back there..and will continue to do so. To sum it all up, the food is AWESOME, the staff is super friendly and helpful what more do ya need??? read more
