I should've read the reviews before my husband and I tried this Mexican restaurant for lunch on Thursday, Oct 26. SERVICE. Very slow. Our server was too frazzled to serve everyone in the restaurant efficiently. There were two 5-top tables, and three booths with 2 to 3 people each. It took about 10 min after we were seated before the server came to take our order. I asked for water with lemon, but she forgot the lemon. She brought lemons 10 min later when she brought the food to the 5-top next to us. Our food took another 15 min after we ordered. After food was served to everyone in the restaurant, our server came by to check on us...we were 3/4 done with our meal. FOOD. We were provided chips and salsa (enough for 1-1/2 people only) after we were seated. Since food was slow coming, we asked for more and was told it would cost us $1.99 for another round. Huh?! We agreed to the charge because we were starving! I loved the chips though because it was not store-bought. For our meal, I had a combination meal of chicken enchilada, cheese enchilada and crispy relleno with green chile. Taste wise, the food lacked the UMPH to make the food taste really good although the crispy relleno was REALLY CRISPY! My husband had a beef burrito meal. Love this place! The Chile Rellenos are the best. The tongue burrito is tender & so full of flavor. The nacho plate is what dreams are made of. All of the plates have big portions. Plus the drinks, mix drinks are soooo good. You must dine here. read more

Well a famished drive from San Luis to Oscar's in Alamosa. Closed on Mondays, "Best Mexican Food in Town", Daily Buffet until 3 PM...it's painted right there on the wall - it must be so. Today is Tuesday, Sept 13 and we rolled up to an almost deserted parking lot hunger in high gear. Doors are locked tight, lights are off - it's not Monday and it isn't yet 3 PM, what's wrong. Knowing something is amiss I go to each door in turn expecting to see a note about bereavement or other unavoidable emergency..nope, no such notice. Dejected we turn and slowly walk away our taste for the "Best Mexican Food in Town" unsatisfied, our spirits deflated and trust damaged. Will we ever be willing to trust again and drive right past open restaurants again? It remains to be seen. read more

When we went in we were greeted and seated my a friendly and lovely lady, Beatrice. We promptly ordered margaritas and water. The margaritas were very flavorful and generous. I ordered the Chile Rellenos and my husband ordered the Mexican Chicken Fried Steak smothered in green chile. Both were amazing! Beatrice told us some history about how the ceiling was handmade as were the light fixtures. It was a fantastic experience all around. We are locals so we will definitely be going back. read more

This place is best described as overflow for The Rubi Slipper next door. It is not a great place to service that traffic overflow. The best part about this place is that it provided ample seating at 6pm on a Saturday night. The food was a solid 3/5 too. Those were the upsides. I hate judging a place by what items they set on the table in front of young children, but a bowl of salsa certainly isn't a great idea (at least it wasn't a fresh fajita plate). The service was definitely a miss all over the board. Water cups were left unfilled throughout the meal, my dish came out with red chili instead of my requested green chili, and the meal took a lot longer than we would have liked. Plus, the chips came in a small bowl and, while the first round was complimentary, refills at the same measly size were an up-charge. When we are back in town, we will certainly try to avoid this place, and try some of the other options around town - hopefully Rubi Slipper! read more

Don't go here if you're hoping for a half decent Mexican meal. I ordered the adobada "burritos" and all I could taste was pepper. The burritos themselves were no more than oversized rolled tacos. The beans tasted as if they had been poured out of a grocery store can and the rice would never be anything I write home about. I ordered a side Chile relleno as well. When it was served I had to look at it a minute wondering if it was actually a corn dog served on accident. Peering at the inside of it after a few cuts the chili looked like it had been thawed after an extremely long and deep freeze. My guest ordered the carnitas tacos, after opening them the meat may have been a two spoonfuls each just seemed grey and lifeless. After a long day showing up hungry we only left frustrated and disappointed agreeing giving this restaurant a second chance would not be worth it. read more

When I order a margarita, I anticipate sweet and sour goodness that makes my tongue tingle. So when I ordered Oscar's $3.75 margarita, I was buzzing with pre-tequilia excitement, and was greatly let down when I got a crappy, watery, lack of flavor sorry excuse for a margarita. With a margarita this terrible, the idea of eating the food at Oscar's stared to scare me. Thank the gods, however, there was no need to fear. The chicken enchiladas with green chile' were amazing. The green chile' was spicy, the chicken was tender - the dish was just damn good overall. That margarita should have been shot and put out of it's misery, but the food is terrific. My family and I walked in and sat down they gave us a water glass and a menu. That was the last time any of the employees talked to us. We sat there for 20 minutes waiting for someone to come take our order. But it never happened. The waitress (older girl with a braid and the cute arm tattoos) was HORRIBLE!!!!!! I have seriously never had an experience like this before. I ordered my food which was shrimp fajitas and no cheese which came with mushrooms, the plate came with no mushrooms and cheese all over. We were walking around town and stumbled on this place that has a sign that says, "buffet". We were shocked that there was a Mexican buffet because we are from Missouri where the only type of Mexican restaurants are similar to El Maguey. (Which we like, but we LOVE authentic Mexican). Needless to say, the buffet intrigued us. There is a wide variety of food on the buffet. (Even some American dishes like macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes, some ribs). If you have kids that don't like Mexican, they probably won't like this unless they fill up on the macaroni). However, one of the workers poured water in the Mac & cheese & my daughter said it tasted terrible. For the rest of my family, they loved it. I would come here again. read more

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!! I never leave reviews like this but I just cannot stand how bad our experience was. We live local and decided to try Oscars out today on a Sunday they were busy but normal for Sunday after church as the other restaurants are. Our party of 3 sat down and waited a good 10 minutes for anyone to come to our booth in which one young lady finally did and gave us I assume tap water (it was horrible) I'm no water snob but really this water was nasty! Then our waiter did not show up until around 10 more minutes after that to get our drink order. He finally came, took our meal order and it took our food around 25-30 minutes to get to us. My husband ordered steak fajitas and they were served on a regular plate with hardly any meat. He was not impressed. I ordered the carne Asada tacos and personally I they were horrible. Tortillas were hard and stale, meat was not good. My son got chicken nuggets and to be honest that's probley what my husband and I should have gotten to because the end result of $48 later we left with stomachs aches and will never be returning to this restaurant. We were passing through and needed a place for a late lunch. Staff was attentive and the food was top notch! I had the enchiladas and my nephew had the chicken tacos. The sides of rice and beans were great. The salsa was flavorful but the chips were so so. Definitely stop in and give this place a try when in Alamosa. read more

Oscar's is my family's favorite place to eat in Alamosa...Service is always efficient. The vegetarians in the family love that Oscars offers vegan green chile, though I prefer the regular because it is spicier. Portions are huge! While spending the day in Alamosa Colorado I decided to try a new Mexican restaurant. I have eaten at several Mexican restaurants in Alamosa. I saw Oscar's and the sign totes it as the best. So I step on inside. They have a buffet from 10:00 to 2:00 and that's where I aim to go to. I circle it like a shark checking out all the entrees. I notice it's kind of half half, half American and half Mexican. I also notice that a few of the entrees are empty, well by my next run the'll be filled again. So I get what I get and sit down to knosh away. I can not say the food was bad, it wasn't I ate what I took. Went back for round two and and and still no entrees in the missing slots! I must say I entered Oscar's at about 1:10 ish that's 50 minutes of buffet bliss. I ask my waiter if there going to bring out the entrees that are out? He comes back and said no as the buffet is almost over. Almost over its only 1:30! Now I will say my waiter was really nice and attentive, but could do nothing for me. I'm bummed maybe I should only pay half of the buffet price as there was only half of a buffet. Oscar's first off you are not the best. That honor goes to Calvillo's Mexicam Restaurant down the street, there buffet blows yours out of the water! Will I eat here again? Ya I will but not off the buffet. read more

Possibly the worst restaurant i've been to in quite some time. Walked in and the waiter spilled water on us, didn't say anything. After ordering , they gave me the wrong order and gave me beef instead of chicken and then argued with us for a few minutes and told me that I in fact did order the beef , and I don't even eat beef. After the fact i ordered another meal and she gave me the meal without saying a thing, and as we asked for the bill she proceeded to throw the bill at the table. Mexican food in Alamosa is plentiful. We went here as a group when last in Alamosa. The service was pretty slow, it seemed like they needed more wait staff or for someone else to be at the hostess/checkout area to help with the influx of people and the people trying to pay to leave. Honestly, I have had better in Alamosa as far as Mexican food goes as well as far as service goes. However, the food came warm and hot, and was accurate.
