I was visiting my girlfriends family for Thanksgiving and my future brother in law wanted to cut his own hair and line up his own beard. I quickly had an intervention and said no no no I must find you a barbershop even with it being the day after Thanksgiving. To my surprise many barbershops were either closed or they were booked. I called Oscar's Barbershop and spoke with Oscar who had told me that there wasn't a current wait. His shop is about 5-10 minutes from my girlfriends family home. We were greeted by Oscar upon walking in and then taken by Chris. I told Chris to do a #2 on the sides and back with a taper and a hard part with just a little of the top. My future brother in law was trusting me big time with letting me take him to a barbershop in which I briefly reviewed their yelp page and also with this new look for him. Let me just say that Chris was a true professional who not only provided a great cut and lineup his attention to detail was perfect. You could tell that he really cared about his job and craft and made my future brother in law look like a whole new man. He loved his fresh cut and lineup and said man I think I found the shop I'm going to come to for a cut and lineup. First off, I was hesitant to drive all the way to Burbank from Tarzana knowing anytime of the day or any day will have a terrible traffic and a parking space but I still went and checked the shop out. It was a small tidy shop in the corner and I was surprised that there's plenty parking space on the street, also, I got there on time knowing I will be late due to terrible traffic but I wasn't. Staffs are very accommodating and nice that seemed like I've been coming there for a while though it was just my first time. Everyone seemed friendly and professional. I had to work with Elvis, very nice guy and always smiling and made myself comfortable throughout the session. I'm very satisfied with the service rendered to me, kudos to Elvis for making my experience a good one especially being first timer with him, he really has the passion to it, skilled, very neat and clean, smelling good all the time and very good with his hands. I have been going this barber shop for a while. My barber was Raul. Maybe he does good haircuts but he is very not professional and does not know how to treat well his customers. Just advise for him, for the future, when you have an appointment at set time make sure you are available at that time. I understand everything happens but when I got there to have my haircut I felt that he even doesn't care that I'm waiting for him and instead was chatting with his buddies and was doing someone's haircut like nobody be else is there waiting for him. Even with appointment there is still waiting time, had to wait 30 minutes and saw people who came after me and got seated and started before me , even tough I had appointment. And I have always been leaving good tip, but they don't care, apparently their time is the most precious, regardless of what they have promised, If you are not in hurry and can afford to wait it is not bad place, but that is not professional imho. I got my haircut by Lara and she did an *incredible* job. She was so friendly and communicated with me along the way to make sure I was getting the haircut I wanted. I came here on 2 previous occasions and received ok haircuts and then I came in because my regular barber was out of town. I should have just waited for my barber to return. Jimmy was a nice guy but I told him not to cut the top and he then proceeds to cut the top. Then for some inexplicable reason he cut one side of my hair past my hairline, leaving a noticeable huge gap. I went back later in order to try to salvage it but the damage had been done. I think he was in a hurry and thus my haircut suffered for it. I will not be returning. I liked this place a lot... it's not often I'm unmiffed at the idea of parting with $20 since as I've stated plenty in the past, I'm cheap. But I rode my bike down the hill to Oscar's this morning for my first real-life adult haircut in years. Since I was eighteen or nineteen I've been buzzing my hair, scoffing at the idea of paying someone to do a very temporary job. Recently my mop outgrew my tolerance so I decided to go for the real thing. I had no desire to give money to some chain (Supersucks, Floyd's, etc.) but wanted a real haircut so I Yelped it up and found a nice little independently owned place a mile or so from my house. Done. Convenience aside, the guys inside were really nice. I walked in and Oscar (I love that the guy who's name is on the door actually works there) told me to have a seat. Two or three minutes later another guy who's name I can't seem to remember asked if I was ready and told me to hop in the chair. I gave him a vague idea of what I wanted and he was super patient, trimming a little with one blade then another... asking if it was good until we got to the right one. With a twenty second explanation of what I wanted he draped the cape (I researched, they're actually called capes) over me and went to work. I forgot the awesome zen feeling of zoning out while you're getting your hair did. He used clippers for the heavy lifting then broke out the scissors... Scissors ftw. If someone can't cut your hair properly with a pair of scissors they don't need to be cutting hair. He shaped, trimmed, evened and finished it off with a straight-razor shave. Fifteen minutes later and I looked like a different man. Still fat but with a far better haircut. The cut was $15 and I gave the guy a tip... I'm not upset at spending $20 on a haircut I don't hate. I'll be revisiting these guys in a couple weeks for sure. read more

So I have had the experience of making an appointment and the barber did not show up. This was a few years ago so I decided to give them another shot. I didnt make an appointment and just walked in, very scary to do in the Barber World. I was greeted very well by Oscar, as a matter of fact he remembered my name. I said no appointment so he said no worries Max will take you. The Dodger game was on and it was popping. Max sits me down and aske me how I want it. Im a PICKY person when it comes to my hair so I let him know ALL the details. He isnt scared off and he goes for it. He took his time and got me to the POINT! not a hair out of place and a great Fade. I have been back a twice and with the same results. Great Job Max! read more

Unlike some shops where only one or two of the barbers are good at oscar's all of the barbers have skills and can cut all hair types. Theres also plenty of parking and they are open early on the weekends. As for pricing its pretty straight forward and fair. read more

Oscars moved from Olive to Magnolia while back so this is a review of the new location (the review from Victor G is a review of the old spot.) The new spot is twice the size and is a bit of a man-cave which is the purpose. Oscar is a master barber and so are the other two barbers who work with him... They do everything from awesome haircuts to beard clean up and full shaves (face and head) and they do it like pros. The place now has 4 chairs + a row of chairs for waiting, and a flat screen that's always set to ESPN. This is definitely a locals place and Oscar himself is proud of it. He said he wanted to built a sense of community and that's why he opened here. On any given day there are a few ppl hanging out in the shop talkin' about local things and its all good. There is also a jar earmarked for a first annual bbq... Definitely a great place for a guy to get a haircut and catch up on the score. The only downsides are that its cash only (though prices are reasonable!!!) and there is a wait on the weekends. You can make an appointment in advance which I recommend highly! read more

He also gives helpful inputs and will tel you if your idea won't be helpful in making yourself look aesthetically fine. I've been having a dilemma getting an appointment at my usual spot. Week after week had gone by and I needed to get my hair back to that clean look. After several days of Yelp review research (we are talking about my hair here), I realized that I had to give this place a try. Wasn't sure if I had to make an appointment or walk in. Bit the bullet and walked in. Was greeted by everyone (super friendly barbers and all seemed to be masters of their craft) and was told that there was an open chair at the end. Nestor was his name and making me look good was his game. He was super chill and, even with my poor direction, managed to get my hair to look great. They take cash and card (which is a plus). He gave me his business card and I used it to make my appointment for next time. The second visit was better than the first. Definitely recommend this place to anyone. Looks like I have a new barber. I finally found a local barber shop that does great work! I walked in yesterday morning, with my fiancé and 1 year old, unaware that they take appointments first. But luckily Chris was available shortly after our arrival. So I had my fiancé take my son to go first. At 1st my boy was a little fussy, as he does NOT like to be held down nor touched by strangers. But Chris was VERY patient and friendly that my son quickly calmed down and kinda enjoyed his cut. While waiting they told me the owner, Oscar (obviously), had free time to give me a cut. night and day difference I had a wedding to go to this last weekend and I needed a haircut after work. I walked in without an appointment, I was greeted on my way in, within a minute after sitting down a guy confirmed that I was a walk-in and assured me that someone would help me soon. A few minutes later I was sitting in Oscars chair getting a haircut. The haircut was one of the best I have had! In and out in 35 minutes! DUDE! This place is dope, I called in to set an appointment and even though its a weekday (Thursday) the place is packed! They have an old school vibe with those old school remixes which is really bangin. I've went to a lot of barbershops for a faded cut but Oscar's Barber Shop hits right in the spot. The price is fair I would say since no one can do the fades correctly. I'm certainly gonna go back here.
