Great barber shop, best barber shop in Burbank, Yitzy was great, good vibe in the place

I've never had the joy of having the same barber for years, but that may change pretty soon. I came in here after having lunch and had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by a man named Elvis. He definitely takes pride in his work, as he was as professional as he was detail-oriented. The entire time he made sure I got exactly what I wanted and I walked away feeling like a new man. The vibe was very chill, and I felt myself get excited that I can look so good with a barber as good as he is. I hope to be back soon. read more

Was hoping to find a new barber that was closer so took a chance on this spot but unfortunately it didn't pan out. Son's haircut did not come out even close to the picture I showed him. I left it as is to not call to much attention to the issue since my son didn't want a haircut in the first place but with school starting, I felt he needed a clean cut. My son mentioned how it was nothing like what was asked when he got into the car and just wanted to get home. I figured while I was in town, I would get some LA Style. I walked in here and thankfully had no wait. Daniel hemmed me up and I was concerned. At first, he was a bit slow and gentle. I guess I'm used to my hometown barber just palming my head while sheering me up with his dominant hand. It didn't even feel like a haircut and if Daniel didn't stop halfway through to show me the progress, I would have thought he was bullsh*tting. In the end, it was clear, he was taking his time to do quality work and I left with the undisputed best cleanup of my lifetime. He was relatively calm and quiet until Uptown Funk came on the radio, then I noticed a shuffle in his feet while he softly serenaded me. Is this the home of the Funk Filled Fade? Daniel is my Haircut Hero, and I wish he was my monthly touch up, unfortunately, I'm about 1,200 miles away. Best non food stop in LA. read more

I've been cutting at Oscar, with Oscar since 2003 (they used to be located in a tiny hole in the wall on Olive near the intersection of Olive/Glenoaks). Oscar has always been best-- and that's not an understatement. When it comes to his skills as a Barber-he is in an elite level all on his own. In addition, he is on time, maintains a clean and orderly shop, and gives good advice-- free of charge :) It's good to book in advance, but there have been many times where I've needed a cut and Oscar was fully booked, but I've never had to worry about sitting at another barber's' chair. I try not to keep the negative reviews down to a minimum but my haircut was pretty bad. I called ahead to see if there was availability and found out that there was so I decided to check it out for the first time. I got assigned a female barber, I don't know her name but I asked for a fade and a trim to clean up the top. I paid $35 with tip for a cut that was very bad. My hair on top was all sorts of different lengths. My hair was messed up from a barber at a different spot so I was hoping she could clean up the top but it ended up looking worse. She did properly provided a round cut on the back but the sides weren't lined up. The first thing my wife said to me when i came home from the barber was who cut your hair? I don't usually have the patience or incentive to review places, but this place is my home away from home. Elvis has been cutting my hair for a number of years now. I simply cannot go anywhere else for a proper cut. I often travel for work and sometimes have to get haircuts in other states. Always a mistake. I come back, go see Elvis, and always come out a happy camper. There is no rush, we chat, he makes it personal, and the rest of the gang there is always super friendly and just pleasant. I have been a customer at Oscars for about 6 years now so safe to say a review is long overdue. I have been getting my cuts with Yitzy all this time and there is a good reason I have been very loyal. The inside of the shop has an old school vibe with old school newspaper clippings and various pieces of Americana on the walls which I love to see. I have never let someone else shave me before so I was a little apprehensive about going in. I had let it go for a couple of months for personal reasons and it was time to get cleaned up. This is a great old school barber shop. Great location and very convenient. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by Elvis. I explained to him exactly what I needed and he was very polite and receptive. We had a nice conversation while he trimmed me up and used the warm towel on my face. I have been a client of Oscar's Barber Shop for over a year and couldn't be happier. My barber is Brenda and she's wonderful. The shop has a nice relaxed atmosphere and the barbers interact well with the customers. Even though this place gets busy, they still gladly accept walk-ins . Brenda takes all the necessary safety precautions, sterilizing all her hair cutting equipment, wears a mask and thoroughly cleans her station after each customer. Let me start off by saying, great barber's, great haircuts, great atmosphere. I have had my share of barbers, but none would stick. Once I moved to beautiful Burbank, I was determined to find my "forever Barber". After shopping around, I decided I'd give Oscar's a try. The Barbers here were so welcoming, and there was no extra drama to drowned out. I knew after my first cut, this was my spot and I could grow with them, and be apart of the great history of Oscar's. It's hard to explain the expectations and lust, for a Barber to provide the same experiences that I've grown up seeing in movies and hearing from friends. Being a younger, mixed race, lesbian, outspoken, female.. you can imagine finding a shop that fits into my "lifestyle", can be difficult. Oscar's has proven to me, to be a very professional, open, safe, loving, accommodating establishment of the community. To say I'm grateful, would be an understatement. This crew is mixed with ideas, artist, and open minded people (young and old). I've never felt so "in the right place" in any other establishment... especially a Barber Shop. I spent $35 on a men's haircut, I would expect for the haircut to be close to what I asked for, I had it long and I asked for a trim and a fade, didn't even get a fade and she cut my hair wait shorter than I wanted. When I left I noticed that my sideburns weren't even aligned. I went back and she had the audacity to say "You're supposed to do that yourself at home" Like what??? I paid you to do it, why would I pay to do my own details. I had tipped to be nice but never coming here again. If you're gonna charge people at least do your job. read more

I am so thankful to have found this shop thanks to Yelp. Oscar made me feel welcomed and right at home. I had been shaving the sides of my head for about 2 years, but my eyes are getting a little worse and my hands are getting a bit shakier. I've nicked my hair too many times now, so I set my hopes on finding a professional to trust with this (yes, I was still overly paranoid when I sat down). It's taken me 36 years to finally love my hair, and I don't want to change it by messing it up myself. Oscar was great, I showed him what I had going on. He was quick and efficient. Marlene (sp?) gave me the worst beard trim and line up I have ever received. Bar none. Read the wonderful reviews so thought I'd give them a try. The place has that old school barber shop feel that I love and takes me back to when I used to go with my Dad every weekend. Anyway, I digress. Came in at 5 on a Saturday for next available, explaining I needed a lineup and for my sideburns to be blended. No change in length, no crazy requests. She began by asking me how I wanted my hair cut. I explained I wasn't there for a haircut, just the beard lineup. She asked if I was sure, because she specializes in long hair. I reiterated that I was certain. Now, most barber shops make you feel good about going in. They lather your face, straight razor, hot towel, all the while maintaining a poise and confidence that tells you they've done this a thousand times a day. This, is not what I received. My barber was very uncertain, alternating between clippers, electric razor and scissors on my cheek alone. I was spun in that chair more times than a ride at Disney with the kids. I lost faith in this shop more and more as this continued. What I left with was an uneven beard line, beard trimmed in places I didn't ask for, my neck cut in three places (she explained it was because my hair was thick; she didn't even give/offer/ask about a straight razor, just used her electric razor) and the rest of my face feeling raw. She was going to go back over my neck again, but I politely declined as my neck was already bleeding and that electric razor was not her ally. Three days later, with my uneven lengths, uneven sides and cuts-still-healing- beard, I've gone ahead and just shaved it off to start new because no barbershop on earth could fix the fact that I look like if Abraham Lincoln's beard had been cut by an intoxicated Edward Scissorhands. Biggest regret? Not learning price until she charged me $26 for something my niece could've done better blindfolded. read more

Danny was really nice and charismatic but that alone doesn't mean he knows how to cut hair. He needs to go back to barber school.

I'd give this review one star but it seems like the majority of people here are happy so I don't want to knock anyone's hustle, but boy did Oscar ruin my beard. I'm sure he's alright when it comes to a basic cut and fade, but my dude butchered my face and ruined a whole year worth of beard growth. I walked out of here with cuts all over my face, unhappy with the results, but still made sure to leave a fat tip. If you've got a full beard and want it properly trimmed and lined up, maybe check the other guys out first. read more

Oscar's is full on legit, which I think every one knows. I've gotten cuts from everyone here once or twice and never had a bad one, seriously. But my go-to is ALYSSA. Siempre. I made the mistake of letting some old bitty chop my mop (she was hella nice but it ain't 1973 darling, you gotta update) and I got butchered. Alyssa gave me a thorough talking to and we laid out a plan to get my hair back on track. She's wonderful, kind and VERY good at her job. Awesome spot in Burbank for a fair priced quality cut. Danny was great; attentive to detail, gentle, hygienic (a problem I've noticed with other shops in LA), and I would easily call this the best quality cut I've ever gotten. Working with Italian hair isn't easy, but Danny was the man and left me with a damn fine cut. The price was a cherry on top. YELP 100 REVIEW CHALLENGE 2016 --- 46/100 Every time my son and husband need a hair cut, this is their go to spot. There has not been a time where they were even close to being disappointed. Everyone is very accommodating and really understand what type of hair cut you want. They even ask mid hair cut if you agree with what they're doing.
