If the above sounds right up your street, then Rainbow Ribbons is the best place for you to go to purchase your bits & bobs & trinkets, in order to fuel your creative streak. Entering the shop, you'll encounter ribbons as far as the eye can see, which are different widths and in every colour you could possibly imagine. In other words, if you're very picky about how you want your present to look, you'll be catered for perfectly here. The same applies to paper and card, as you'll find a further infinite selection of colours and qualities that are just brilliant for card making enthusiasts. And even if you can't find something that you're after, ask a member of staff, and they're sure to find it. The shop owners are very approachable and friendly, so never fear. Rainbow has literally thought about everything, from single hole punchers to needles to other equipment that even I have no idea what it's used for. But of course, if you're passionate in this area of creativity, then I'm sure you'll know exactly what everything does. This place is really worth travelling to, and it makes me want to start being artistic with presents myself.

Having spent a lot of time this spring in small touristy villages that are rife with gift shops, I have seen enough variations of the Keep (insert almost ANY word here) and (something else, something else), phrase to last a thousand tired life-times. It is then with GREAT caution that I open to door to Carly's. Phew! She's a far classier bird is Carly than to bow down to populist cliches. There are some lovely gifts in here targeted at yummy mummies like wine caddies in the shape of high-heel shoes, frog prince ornaments and make-your-own-in the-shop craft facilities. A wide range of home furnishings, interior design, and objects d'art all beautifully displayed with taste, style, and elan. A large warehouse at the rear of the shop stocks larger furniture items. Carly's also offer a bespoke interior design service and if the layout of the shop is an indication of this you know that your money will be well spent.

All my…read morefriends seem to be born between February and May, so I've had a busy card-buying time of it recently. The first few were bought with careful consideration. Then I became locked into the habit of rushing into the high street newsagents at the last minute to pick up any-old-one of those tiresome cards with the black and white photo and a low-level witty caption. Knowle Card Shop offer something different. I'm in here today for an anniversary card. After a browse through some fine squares of greeting related card, in the end I settle for a large, beautifully crafted card with three-dimensional decoupage detail. At £5 it is only just slightly more than I'd pay for one of those aforementioned cards that have become bog-standard, and far better value. The shop also has a nice line in folky woodland animal wheelie bin stickers, so I buy two of them to make up my lucky number!

The quality of the print work is outstanding and they are super helpful if you have any questions. The list of their print services and options is really comprehensive both on the website or if you pop into the studio. In the studio they have badges made from printing offcuts, sweatshirts and tees with awesome graphics as well as bags and cards. Sadly the prints on the wall for bands you probably love that they've printed up aren't for sale, but they show off the quality of service.

I popped into the shop last week to see what else they have on sale, and was excited to see they've been collaborating with other local artists - eg. Not only do these guys know their stuff (as clearly evidenced all over their website and blog, including how-tos which I LOVE as sometimes artists can be so precious about sharing tips!) but they're also environmentally responsible donating a percentage of their sale to charity. All round good guys - we need more like you!

Sadly, Louise's is always very quiet on the occasions that I've gone in, which is a real shame because there's so many unusual gifts for young'ns of all ages. There's also a stock of more geeky games such as 'Maths Magic' and science-type solar system building kits, which would be perfect for the clever kids to sink their teeth into. In fact, there's a very large section of educational games - that you just don't usually see in a lot of shops nowadays - they're definitely worth a look! As well as a toy shop, Louise's doubles up as a greetings cards shop, so adults can have a mooch around and buy some unusual and quirky cards, while their children are let loose to explore the depths of the toy sections. I've purchased some unique animal cards from here before (including cute hamster ones) which have been sent out to many of my friends on their birthdays.
