I wish there was a way to not even rate it 1 star. When we arrived they asked if we had a reservation, and we didn't so they had to make sure it was ok(all 3 hibachi tables were empty). When we got seated they said our server would be with us shortly. About 5min went by and another group was seated at the table across from us. 5min later their server came and asked them for drinks, she then turned and asked us what we would like. She returned with her tables drinks and then turned around to us and told us that our server will be getting our drinks. So our server finally came back out but with no drinks, she had to take our order again. When you go for Hibachi you expect them to do tricks, make noise, and have a great time, well don't get your hopes up here. The gentleman that we had just wanted to talk about random stuff and places he enjoyed partying at in town. I will have to say I am glad we got him in comparison to the other guy that was doing the other table. I don't think he ever even talked to them. At then end of what was suppose to be the show and the food was cooked, everyone knows that they do the shrimp toss. So instead of just doing it, he said, well if you all want to do the shrimp toss just let me know, otherwise we can just skip it. So we said sure, and he had to go get the shrimp. Eh. It's fine. But, that's all it is. I guess I cannot comment on the quality of the sushi, but even if it's awesome, I think that the overall experience can be improved. The food is okay, and the service is okay. Nothing at all stands out for me. If I'm in Columbia and looking for a Hibachi experience, I'd go to Kobe. The atmosphere is dark and gloomy. It seems like it's always empty though it rarely is. I would suggest brightening the decor and tailoring it more to a Japanese restaurant. It seems to be a favorite lunch spot for my coworkers, so I believe I'll be back. Hopefully, there are improvements made so I can update my star rating. read more

I usually go at dinner time. Crunch roll is by far the best value and is loaded with fish . They offer takeout and delivery which is nice. Average decor. I don't recall them playing annoying DDR-style music which is always a plus. read more

Amazing!! Our Hibachi chef, Zack, was really talented & friendly. The waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu & friendly. We ordered 2 of the fried sushi rolls they were interesting. I'd never had it like that before. The fried version of the California roll tastes sweeter than a regular California roll. The salads were fresh. My 6 y/o actually ate some of his, which is saying a lot! My husband had the Osaka Deluxe (filet mignon, lobster, shrimp & scallops). I tried a bite of his lobster & VERY good. I had the filet mignon & shrimp. All was very tender & well prepared. The kids' menu is very reasonable. We all left very satisfied. read more

Came here years ago and had a good enough experience to try again. This time was quite mediocre. The rainbow roll was smaller than any I've ever eaten yet the highest price....which would've been ok if it was good, but the rice was dryish and too packed and the fish skimpy and bland. The roll was just plain bland. Also had salmon roe pieces which were also very small... about half the size one usually gets; the roe was good but again the rice somewhat dry. The vegetable tempura was ok, but arrived halfway to cold and was somewhat greasy. The green tea was excellent. Service was not very attentive although timely and quick to provide for requested needs. Have decided will not return. read more

If I could give no star, I would. This used to be my favorite Japanese restaurant in como. After this experience, we will never go there again. They changed the ownership as I noticed the moment you walked in, they had all these great wall slideshow going on and the owners were all speaking chinese. I ordered the special and it was 33 dollars. Usually it comes with all kind of sushi. However, when I gave them the debit card, they cannot figure how to use the card machine. After messing with the machine for literally 20 min, they said could they write down my card number so that they can try to debit my money later. I was like no. So I asked my husband to go get cash. Anyway, after we went home . We opened the box. It's all tuna, salmon, boiled shrimp, one eel and California. We couldn't eat couple of them because they tasted sour and not fresh. My husband even spit out 2 of them because there were some hard stuff in the sushi. Very disappointed new ownership. Will never go there from now on. read more

Osaka is a very down to earth, calm sushi restaurant, with a soothing atmosphere. The sushi construction was very good (grade A), with an appropriate amount of rice, using fresh ingredients. I ate there on a Wednesday night, and was immediately seated and served. I ordered miso soup and sea weed salad, and was immediately impressed by the generous serving size. I ordered not only rolls, but also hand rolls, everything was delicious! The price is extremely reasonable, and when you consider the price, service and sushi, this place is a winner! I will be going back on a very regular basis. My new favorite place!!! Should you go? Heck yeah! Save environment, and well lit too. read more

Two Fridays ago I phoned in an order and was told 20 minutes wait for my sushi, I arrived 15 minutes later to find it difficult to get anyone to help me. Once I did, a manager I believe, said she would get my order. She gave me another order that I noticed wasn't under my phone number. It was the take out order behind me. After she assisted her it was another 35 minutes for them to make 2 sushi rolls. Both of which by the time I got were soggy and gross. This was an awful experience. While the food was fine our Teppanyaki chef was obnoxious. Some bearded kid (who was cooking without a beard cover) lampooned every topic of conversation. He was so negative everyone at the table was visibly uncomfortable. To make matters worse, he was not properly trained and cooked almost every item individually. We were subjected to his toxic banter for over an hour. At the end of the meal we were all exhausted and looking at each other like "What the heck was that all about?". The father of the family across the table from us listed half a dozen of Teppanyaki meals they've had and stated "This is by far the worst experience we have ever had." We couldn't help but agree. I am frankly baffled at some of the reviews on this place other than these people ate here before this guy was hired. The owner should cut his losses and let this guy go. So I haven't had Osaka in 4 to 5 years and I was just reminded why. I have no idea how this place could average more than two stars. I chose Osaka because it's the only sushi place on the south side of town and I didn't feel like fighting the downtown traffic on a Friday night. After this sushi, I realize my time and effort to go downtown would have been well spent. The sushi is simply disappointing. My spicy tuna was flavorless. There was nothing that seemed anything like shrimp in my shrimp tempura roll. My Philly roll was okay, but how hard is it to mess up packaged Philadelphia cream cheese? The rice is too fluffly - perhaps the wrong type of sushi rice or improperly cooked? The fish is flavorless if it's even there. Overall, a waste of money and time. I suggest you take the time to go downtown for some 3-4 star sushi next time. You may pay an extra dollar or ten, but at least it will be enjoyable. read more

Sushi is always great but the teppanyaki is another story. I don't generally care about bad/awkward service, but I couldn't look past it on this one. The food is good, I've had it 3 times but every time it's the same chef. It was clear that he is more concerned with having a quick service and hitting on the guests (which sounds counterproductive to his macking game). A little flirting is OK, but this was a little awkward. Take it down a notch. Don't let this detour you from going though, just a minor hiccup. read more

As of right now this place not bad. Again I say as of right now because all I've really tried are the sushi rolls. I've heard great things about their sushi so I thought I'd give them a try. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular because sushi in the middle of Missouri is not going to be amazing. I order the big O roll and 2 tuna rolls and miso soup. I have to admit I was somewhat dissatisfied with the big O roll.. it's probably my personal taste but man, that roll was way to smooth and creamy. It was like creamy overkill. Way too much cream cheese for my taste and with avocado. I like textures and different flavors in my sushi which sounds really snobbish but again it's a preference thing. I wouldn't get the O roll again but the miso soup was really nice and did have that flavor I was hankering for. The tuna rolls were forgetable but not bad. I would come and try a different roll or two but not anytime soon after all that cream cheese. If you decide to come her also ask them for roll recommendations. I was at a disadvantage because I ordered takeout and their menu online didn't have descriptions. read more

It's very dark in the place, even at noon--probably so you can't see how old and unappetizing your fish is. We ordered the spicy tuna roll and the california roll. The tuna was very old and did not taste good at all. The california roll also had no flavor--pretty sure it was shredded imitation crabmeat. This is the worst sushi/hibachi grill ever. I have no idea why anyone likes this place; maybe they have never had good sushi before. I have been to this place multiple times with friends. The sushi didn't taste fresh and I struggled to find a roll I liked. Everything else I've had on the menu was OK at best. The staff is incredibly attentive and so nice. A lot of their staff have been there for years. The last time my husband and I were there for lunch, I was going on and on about the salad dressing, which is so amazing. My husband asked the waitress about it, and she said that they will sell it to you and I was so excited! The prices seem much more reasonable than other places in Columbia. For example, if you go for lunch and get the roll combination, you get about 12 or 13 pieces of various sushi rolls, a salad, and soup for less than $10! read more

I used to love going to Osaka for my favorite sushi roll - the crunch roll. A delicious combination of salmon, white tuna, tempura crunchies and sauce. The sweet potato roll is pretty good as well and I still like their salad dressing quite a bit. I did have a high rating for this restaurant initially, but the last few visits have been lackluster. On one occasion there was even a black hair underneath the sushi I ordered! Bleh. During this same occasion, I waited forever for a tempura roll, only to be informed that it was delayed due to the fryer being broken. Upon my last visit with friends, I had my old standbys (crunch roll and sweet potato roll) and while they were okay, they definitely were not as good as I remembered them to be. My friends were not all that impressed with their menu items either and the food felt overpriced. Also, I feel like Osaka has had its time in Columbia. They used to be the go-to place to get sushi, however, there are now better and more modern places in downtown Columbia. The bland lighting and decor of Osaka hasn't changed in years and I feel like they need to upgrade in order to compete with the more attractive alternative sushi places in town. read more

6 months ago I would have told you that this was at least the best Sushi in the mid west. We would go several times a month, for the past few years. The service was impeccable, and several knew us, The manager would sit and speak with us. We would get comped new rolls or fish. Now they are very understaffed, to the point that the hostess served us more than the waitress, I have received vegetables that I would not eat, the Sushi is served warm and the restrooms were not in a decent shape. They have even deleted their face book where they would showcase their special fish, which they don't have either. I hope they get things together but we wont be coming again anytime soon read more

Coming from Springfield, MO where we have hibachi restaurants at almost every main road and I been spoiled with the best I can't say I'm impressed. The miso soup and salad were huge portions..it was a great start until the chicken teriyaki came out. The plate was poorly presented with chicken cut up with a side of steam rice and a slice of one cucumber and two pieces of carrots. Maybe they should put some vegetables from the huge portion of salad into their entree. Usually what you expect from a hibachi is: chicken with rice, noodles and a side of vegetables. I have been to a lot of hibachi restaurants, this certainly is not the worst, but considering the price for what you get its down there. The filet was good, a bit salty but the cut was good. the shrimp was ok at best but also you only get 5. for the same price I spent here I could have gotten a filet shrimp and chicken, plus some to take home if I went to somewhere else, like a benihana or kobe here in town. When you walk in there is a choice; do you want to sit on the hibachi side or the sushi side? Heck I don't know do I have to choose what I want to eat before even seeing a menu? The place is extremely small with 3 or 4 tables and a couple of booths, on the sushi side anyway. Several of the booths were occupied by family or friends which the waitstaff were busy visiting with. Our booth was filthy with Cheerios scattered on the floor next to it. The sushi was ok, nothing special. The udon was terrible, unflavored brown water with unseasoned beef and vegetables. A total waste of money. Plus, my daughter left the restaurant with some sort of ugly bug bite on her hand, fresh, so it must have happened while we were in there. Avoid this one! read more
