Lota is good for groups and families, wielding picnic style benches, quick service, and affordable prices. But make sure to bring cash! We couldn't believe our eyes at some of the prices (pâté for only 0,6€?? squid for 11,50€??), but quickly learned that this was because the pâté came in a little peel-pack, and the sangria tasted like artificial strawberry juice. However, spend wisely and you will get full. The fish is mostly grilled, with minimal marination or fuss but it does taste pretty fresh. We were brought boiled potatoes and salad to accompany our meal which was a nice balance to the meal. Everything came out pretty quickly and it seemed like the vibe was to get diners in and out just as efficiently. No one was rude per se, but the staff very clearly were just waiting for their shift to be over so they could close up. The fries were plentiful and the burgers pretty tall. My burger was very good although the patty was definitely a little under especially in the middle. K was not in top form, feeling not great all morning and hoped that food would help, it did not, so we'll reserve judgement on her burger. Patty done a bit more this is a 5 star review but medium is not medium rare, maybe even a little less than that. Servers are great, the restaurant is great the vibe is great. We were in pretty early (by Portuguese standards at least) for lunch during the off-season, so we had no issues getting a table for six upstairs with a view. During the busy season I would expect this place to fill up quickly though. Service was friendly, and as usual the servers spoke both Portuguese and English (and probably a smattering of French and German if I had to guess). The menu also comes printed in all four languages, which makes life easier. The food was generally very good; the artichoke tapas was basic (cool artichoke in olive oil and garlic), as was the octopus (grilled and chopped). The chicken piri-piri was excellent; cooked well so that the skin was crispy but the meat was still moist, and with just the right amount of heat in the butter sauce dabbed over it. Overall a good meal in a great location, we would certainly return.
