My first appointment was to talk with Dr. Cullen who did an excellent job explaining what exactly happens during the procedure. He and his awesome assistant Erin were very kind and patient with my questions. The staff was super nice especially the front receptionist and Megan the nurse at Beacon. The nurse who administered the shot was great - he made sure I had a numbing agent on the knee first. When he saw a bandaid below my knee, he wanted to know what it was there for. I kind of blew off the "injury" but he took the bandaid off and told me I might want to have that area checked as any mole that bleeds a lot is suspect. I appreciate his thoughtful attention to detail and will get the area checked out.

When I…read morecalled to schedule my first appointment, they were very helpful and offered to email the preliminary paperwork to me so I could fill it out ahead of time. They worked with me to schedule my appointments so there was minimal time missed at the office and even provided a courtesy "reminder" call 24 hours in advance of each appointment. My injury left me with a large, golf ball size knot on my shin which after five weeks in a walking boot, was not going away. The thought of this knot being a permanent part of my leg was devastating, but after approx. five visits with Jay, it was gone! Jay, the physical therapist, has a wonderful demeanor, good sense of humor and professional attitude. He was sure to talk me through each step of the therapy including why he was doing it and the result it would have. I actually looked forward to my visits and when my twelve visits were complete, my ankle was back to normal. I've had no problems and continue to do the at-home exercises Jay suggested to get my strength back. I would not have gone to any other ortho doctor for the TKR, even though I did seek a second opinion because I was hoping I wouldn't need knee replacements yet. The second Dr said the same thing, so I scheduled theTKR with Dr. Hummel. He did the right knee at the end of October. I did the therapy and exercises, and regained full range of motion by my 9 week checkup. The left knee was done at the end of February, with similar, excellent results. Dr. Hummel is very specific about what he wants you to do to heal. But if you follow his instructions, you get the best results. I don't hesitate to recommend him highly.

At the appointment I was told while checking in " that will be $50.00 for your copay" . I replied "I'm sorry no one told me that I only have 45.00". The nurse then said " we will have to re schedule you when you can pay". I did. Miffed that they would miss out on my insurance payment over 5.00. After returning for my appointment a week later. I saw dr Hummel. He introduced himself without looking me in the eye and said " what is it you want from me?" Shocked at the kirt treatment I said" I'm not a surgeon I don't know". No questions were asked. I was x-rayed and Dr. Hummel returned. "I see you are addicted to pain pills." He says. I reply" I'm dependent on them I have chronic pain and need them to function.". He then snaps back with "that's what all addicts say". He then proceeds to give me a list of five things I need to do , such as quit the pain pills, quit my job, loose 30 pounds, start water therapy, and something else. Then I was to return in thirty days and if I had made good progress on list then he would decide if he would treat me. I now thank him for being such bad people person because I found the absolute best surgeon. After getting over being scolded by some one who didn't know me or even take anytime to try I found Dr. who said "you are hurting let's get you fixed."
