She has the warmest, happiest, most bubbly personality. Her energy immediately made me feel welcome, and that matters so much when you're walking into a dental office and may already be feeling a little nervous. There was another young woman at the front desk whose name I unfortunately cannot remember, and she was equally kind, professional and welcoming. Then I met **Dr. Joel Caraballo**, and I immediately felt comfortable with him. Dr. Caraballo listened. That was incredibly important to me. He allowed me to explain my concerns and some of my previous dental history without making me feel rushed or dismissed. He conducted a thorough examination, including X-rays, and took the time to explain what he was seeing and what he recommended moving forward. I was specifically looking for a dentist with an excellent bedside manner--someone compassionate, knowledgeable and honest who would listen to me, tell me the truth about my dental health and recommend additional care when it was genuinely necessary. I felt that I found exactly that in Dr. Caraballo. He made recommendations regarding my care, explained why he was making them, and I felt comfortable moving forward with his recommendations. I trust his professional judgment, and for me, developing that level of trust with a dentist is extremely important. The dental assistant who worked with me was also incredibly kind, gentle and professional. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name, but she listened to some of my history as well and treated me with genuine compassion. I also love the message New Image Dental shares about caring for people who may be fearful or apprehensive about going to the dentist. Please don't let fear keep you from taking care of your teeth and gums. By 9:49 a.m., I had still only had an x-ray, and it wasn't until 10:02 a.m. that I had to get out of my chair and go looking for someone, only to have them tell me that they didn't have time to clean my teeth at all today and would have to reschedule. The office manager and the person performing the X-rays was defensive, and the dentist referred to being overbooked and having high volume. He made sure I didn't have any pain and kept assuring me everything was going well, and that I was doing great. Yes, I was very anxious - very, very!!! ... but he talked to me before he did anything and made sure I was confident in what I wanted to do. I broke one of my lower rear molars. I have TMJ, so it's hard for me to even keep my mouth open. After his recommendation, I decided to pull both top and bottom. I was sooooo happy after he was done! I was so thankful and I kept smiling and thanking everyone, especially him of course He asked me to trust him, and stop asking too many questions (I truly was asking too many!). I did trust him, because even though I was probably the worst anxious and nervous patient there ever- he assured me he wouldn't let me feel any pain. He said he wouldn't use numbing gel before the local anesthesia or laughing gas like I was expecting to- but I didn't even feel the needle/shots! I am truly grateful and thankful I went to him! The reason I did go to this dentist though- is because one of my relatives said he has pain a few days prior and he went in. He said his dentist was the best and said he had a similar experience to what I just described. (His dentist is there Tuesdays and Fridays). Thank you!!! Oh yeah- almost forgot- Radiologist guy was real good! He was patient with me and made sure I was comfortable! I told him I gag and he kept asking me if I needed a break. Also- let me tell you- I walked out on two other dentists because I was too nervous! One did numb me and I went home with nothing done. The other dentist (@ Schnierow in Hawthorne), said he didn't have time for me to let my anxiety medication kick in, after his staff member told me to not take it until I spoke with the doctor - which I never did before he got the needle all up on my face! He got mad because I asked for 5 minutes. Literally, 5 minutes. He said he didn't have time and literally told me to go somewhere else. Thanks Dr. Choi- I am soooo glad I did! The receptionist are extremely friendly and make you feel welcomed. I went in early on a Saturday morning and they were already treating other patients.
