Was excited to find what seems like a hole-in-the-wall joint in Groton, which typically is the recipe for a great taco. I ordered the special birria tacos, but became a bit concerned when they asked if I wanted cilantro and onion on them. Is it even a taco without cilantro and onion? Unfortunately, it appears the restaurant is cooking for someone with a blander palate than me and the tacos were simply okay. The sopapillas were solid, but nothing magical. If you're looking for something reasonably priced with fairly quick service, then this is the place for you. However, there's certainly better tacos in the region. read more

I have driven by this restaurant many times to and from work and finally decided to stop in. I was Greeted quickly and was able to sit where I wanted. Their menu has quite a few options to choose from. Food was really good and so was the margarita. I ordered the Cheese filled Chile Rellenos and Chicken Flautas. Both really good. This place was more of a miss than a hit to me if I'm going to be honest. This place is more on the tex mex side in terms of cuisine. I ordered a chimichanga and it came with a side of rice, beans and pico de gallo. The chimichanga wasn't fried a bit like they normally are, and sauce was added on the top so it made the tortilla a bit soggy. The inside of the chimichanga was really good though. The chicken was flavorful!! The rice and beans were alright. The waitress was quick to serve my friend and I right from the beginning. We even got two orders of chips and salsa! Overall, it was an okay experience. Not sure if I would come again but who knows! read more

We've enjoyed Ortega's for years and in spite of new venues springing up we always return. There's no comparison to the consistent quality of their meals whether you're enjoying a dinner or a quick bite. The service is top notch and delivered with a smile as is the greeting as you walk through the door. The decor is warmly Mexican but without a lot of sombreros or piñatas overhead. I have ordered here many times within the last year, the chimichangas are fantastic no matter what kind you order. Portions are large, and delicious. The staff have been accommodating, and attentive. They clean everything thoroughly in between guests, I do have to mention that this is not 'authentic' Mexican. So if you come here expecting the same as what would be served south of the border... you're a little insane for it. This is food that has adapted to the tastes of the area to make it easier to sell. Nothing wrong with that. Considering what the rent is for restaurants in the area, their food is well priced in comparison to other, similar restaurants. For those ordering through food-service apps, please make sure your order is correct, and if it is not, it is up to you to contact the restaurant for the order to be fixed. Eh We arrived at 1pm and there was not a single customer in there! There was also no air conditioning which was surprising. The young man who rang up our take-out order was pretty rude. When we got down to the beach we realized they didn't give us any forks to eat with and no napkins either. We were so disappointed we went home to eat. We ordered nachos with our meals and typically nachos come out first as an appetizer. Not here, they came out with our meals and they were ice cold. It was also maybe 8 chips total with cold beef and cold cheese sauce on each chip. The flavor was okay but we couldn't get past how cold it was. It was also $16.80 for literally 8 chips! The entrees weren't much better. Mostly cold and very small portions. The quesadillas looked like a kids menu item and the meat on the tacos was cold. I didn't dare order coffee, that was probably 2 dollars an 50 cents. most places around here charge 2.50 for a cup of coffee. Today we tried Ortega's mainly because it has tamales and my husband loves tamales. We were delighted by the atmosphere but so disappointed by the food. The salsa was bland to the point I had to request hot sauce. The queso had the look, texture and taste of straight Velveeta. Mixing the heated up salsa with the queso made it eatable but not worth it. The Shrimp Taquitos Plate (15.65) had one fresh nicely cooked shrimp, chopped up, per tortilla (5) with lovely chunks of fresh avocado. But it was bland without the added pico de Gallo and heated up salsa. The rice was yummy but so dry. The tamales were mostly dough (and rancid to my tongue) with very little filling. The refried beans, however, were delicious. The sangria was good but I've had better. We had high hopes when walked in but we won't be back. read more

Once in a blue moon, YELP can fail you. This was one of those days. The waiter was very nice. As for the food...you are better off at Taco Bell. My chile relleno was watery. The rice was definitely not fresh. I found my self as if I was Gordon Ramsay picking through food and thinking...This is fucking terrible. Husband had fish tacos and said the fish was obviously previously frozen. That freezer burn flavor was apparent. The salsa itself should have warned me. More like watered down tomato sauce. I hate giving bad reviews. I really do. I also hate spending my money on crap food. If you want really good fish tacos...you have to go to Coloradito, Mexico. So, let's just get this out of the way, as so many people seem to love to use it as an excuse to rate the restaurant down... No the food is not authentic. I've loved this place for years, and ended up taking our au pair, who was born and raised in Merida, here for lunch one day. Her words were - "It's very good food, but not really Mexican." Essentially, it is what General Tso's is to Chinese food except as a Mexican place (aka - an American interpretation, made for American tastebuds) and I'm okay with that. Regardless of the not quite authentic food, I can't say I have ever had a bad meal here. It is very reasonably priced, with large portions.
