I have to confess to being very hungry when I found myself marooned in Orpington High St one morning. I was sorely tempted to have a McD McMuffin, the thinking being it's about three quid and you can be in an out in about the same number of minutes. I noticed a café over the road and thought I would give it a whirl. I wandered in and asked for a breakfast at the counter. The bloke looked at me a little bemused and asked me which type of breakfast I would like. Seemingly unimpressed with my answer of 'you know, a one that you eat in the morning with eggs and bacon and stuff' he thrust a menu in front of me. There was a choice of about 5 permutations; I chose the one with mushrooms, bacon, egg, sausage, tomato and toast with a cup of tea. At £4.20 I was not expecting much.
Put it this way, I wish I lived back in Orpington. Egg was just right, bacon was lean and mean and the mushrooms were fried to perfection (I can't be doing with hotel boiled mushrooms). The staff was attentive and service was really very good.
