I have read nothing but wonderful things about the Ormonde Jayne line. Since they are no where to be found in the U.S., this was a must see for me. Just a short trek from busy Piccadilly it's in a small arcade, surrounded by luxury boutiques. Keep your eye out for it, because you might walk right by it, like I did. The shop itself is like a jewel box, very tiny, but elegant. The color theme is black and orange, with mirrored walls, all very tastefully done. Bottles of fragrances are displayed on pedestals, with tester strips already spritzed, to try out. The sales associate was welcoming and wonderful. I was a bit timid about visiting at first, because I dressed and looked like a snob, but I was treated as well as any of their clientele. She spent a good amount of time answering my questions and explaining each scent to me. I got to smell each one I was interested in, but couldn't decide. She even provided me with a few samples of my favorites to take home for more testing. But, better yet, I purchased their Discovery Set. This is a beautifully packaged set of 11 mini sprays, each different and generously sized. Basically a fragrance wardrobe of almost their entire collection. And they can probably provide the ones not included to you as a sample. It's gorgeous to look at and would even make a great gift for a fragrance fan. If you order this set from their website, the shipping is free. I couldn't wait, though, so I decided to get it right then and there, to eagerly try each of them when I returned to my hotel. This line can be expensive, especially with an unfavorable exchange rate, but it's a nice splurge. I have no complaints about the prices, because I knew what I was getting into. This is a quality niche line. The fragrances are so thoughtfully creative, sophisticated, and even delightful. They are unique and definitely not run-of-the-mill. One of my favorites is the Champaca, a beautiful scent, with a basmati note, yes, as in the rice. Their newest one is their version of Tiare, another gorgeous floral.
In addition to the fragrances, they also have matching bath products and candles. Too bad I couldn't indulge on more. If you want to impress someone, give them a gift from here. The gift sets are packaged so beautifully that if the recipient doesn't love you for it and the contents, then something's wrong with them. I might be a sucker for the packaging, but you can't deny the product. You can even purchase a bottle of parfum and have the stopper engraved. Not to leave the guys out, there's a few scents for them here, too. It's like an escape to another world at this little shop. At least from all the rushing around just a few blocks away.
If you can't make it into this boutique, check out their website. Sign up for the newsletter, because they sometimes have promos such as a gift with purchase. During the Christmas holiday, they even have a discount code. I believe they have a boutique in Dubai, also. And it looks like, from their website announcement, they'll be at Harrods as well. A visit here would provide more personal attention without all the distractions, though. read more
