Over the past nine months as I have tried to get the job done with them they expected patience and sympathy from me, the customer, as they dealt with family illness and the pandemic, but when I asked for understanding regarding our unemployment due to the pandemic I did not get any. I should not have held on so long to the hope they would actually do my window treatment. I simply didn't know where else to look, being new in town. It was a mistake and I would feel better if I had gone elsewhere months ago. However they never clearly communicated until today that they would not do the job and would not return the initial payment.

They have a grapefruit mint candle that is natural and smells refreshing, and I wanted to get that again. When we arrived, it was about 20 minutes prior to closing, but we decided to go in for a quick looksee. I pay attention to customer service and if the vibe is welcoming and this visit it was NOT! We did not get a hello or welcome. When paying for my candle, the owner said hello, my total, and asked me to punch in my card pin. Honestly, it felt as if we were stepping on toes for entering their shop close to closing. We weren't the last customers in the shop, and we were left the store 10 minutes prior to closing. When we left, the owner immediately ran outside and pulled in her sign and closed the door. My friend and I both talked about how unwelcomed we felt, and unfortunately, we decided we will not be coming back here. It has nothing to do with the items inside the shop, but it is a crummy feeling when you want to support a small business but are left feeling rushed and unappreciated.

Unfortunately, early on it became very clear that the designer was way off track in her selections and presenting a plan that had no flow or cohesion with the rest of the home; merely a laundry list of items to purchase. When we did our own research on the pieces presented, it was clear that colors, scale, and overall cohesion was way off and so we decided to end the relationship. We were initially required to sign a contract for her to commence with the work, but when we decided to move in another direction with our project, the designer was unclear about the terms of the agreement she required us to sign. In fact, we had the option of choosing $2,500.00 in furnishings, but were sent an invoice for $2,500.00 with no mention of this option. When we pointed out the terms of the contract to the designer we were turned over to the owner of the store who wrote a very curt email to us that didn't address our questions or attempt to proceed in good faith. At that point we decided the situation was getting too toxic to continue with them and just paid the invoice. We have worked with other designer firms in the past so we are familiar with design agreements and making sure that designers are fairly compensated for their work. With Fringe Interiors, we believe that we were taken advantage of by a sales person and an owner, both of whom were more concerned with commissions than with building a long term customer relationship or future referrals.
