I'm reviewing the beer here rather than anything else, becasue the new brewery visitor centre isn't open yet as far as I know.
The brewery produce a range of local ales - and they taste great. Theer will surely be something to suit everyone's taste here. The beers are given local names - or names linked to Orkney history, and there has recently been quite a fuss about one of them - Skullsplitter named after the Viking Earl of Orkney, Thorfinn the Skullsplitter. It nearly got banned, but luckily common sense prevailed and the brewery are still allowed to produce it - with it's label depicting Thorfinn the Viking.
Other beers produced include the wonderful, velvety Dark Island Ale - one to savour by a roraring fire on a winter's evening. There's also Red MacGregor, Raven Ale and Northern Light (lager). As well as being great beers (available in a lot of bars locally and in real ale bars and beer festivals all over the country), they also make great presents to take home from your trip to Orkney. read more
