I used to come here more…read moreoften when I was younger, it used to be the spot for after school, and using the Internet, until I got it myself, at home. I would always meet friends here, and we would check out books and shows together. The building, really is what Washburn is. Brownstone! That doesn't sound like much, but much of Washburn, in the olden days, was all about brownstone. The building is really pretty and has been there forever. As for the books.. there used to be a selection that I enjoyed, I'm not sure if that remains the same!

The road to drive up was closed for the winter so we hiked up the small mountain which took around 15 minutes. But during (not the winter season LOL) the road is open to drive up for gorgeous views of Lake Superior. Definitely a must stop you have to make while driving up the MN North Shore.

There is a Vet Memorial and a boardwalk out to the statue of an Indian. Nee-gaw-nee-gaw-bow (Leading Man). Indian statue by famous artist, Peter "Wolf" Toth to honor the Chippewa Indians. It is the 59th statue on the "Trail of Whispering Giants." Peter Toth has donated a different Indian carving to each of the 50 states and Canada as a successful completion of his dream from 1971 to 1988. Toth's persistent work put his Indian carvings in Ripley's-Believe It or Not. It is located on the lakeside pier next to the Wakefield Visitor's Center. The Indian statue was carved from one piece of pine donated by the Ottawa National Forest and was completed in 1988. It's quite the thing to see. This is a must stop.
