Also two additional exhibit halls are featured. I think the current set up will appeal to a broader range of people. Photographs are still featured but not as many as before. They now have period displays such as snowmobiling and fishing. The Summer hours are still Tuesday through Saturday 11 to 3PM. I think the hours posted on Yelp are wrong. A big sign is displayed in front of the Three Lakes Library during opening hours.

Every building offers amazing historical artifacts about early life in 3Lakes. I especially like the displays of the Northernaire and the resorts. Excellent selection of books related to the area are located in the new visitor's center, located in the back of the library. If you are visiting 3 Lakes or live there and want something new to do--visit the Three Lakes Museum. They also have a fun Wine & History event held on Labor Day weekend with wine provided by the Three Lakes Winery!

Historic 2-story building with full basement - all broken up into many rooms (probably about 15 all…read moretold) with loads and loads of exhibits on local history. The staff was friendly and informative. The exhibits were very well organized with each room having a separate theme. One notable thing was the volunteers working at looms to make carpets and place mats. We bought one; excellent quality - hand-made the way it was done before mass production. Admission is free; we left a donatiion. We spent about 90 minutes here seeing the various way life was starting in 1880 and through to almost 1980. The museum is only open from 10:00 A - 2:00 P on MWF and Saturday. Plan accordingly. The top floor boasts an old courthouse. The basement carries a lot of equipment from 100 years ago. Lots to see.

Ontonagon light station was established in 1852/1853, first lit in 1866. It's made of Milwaukee's…read moreown cream city brick. The light is no longer operational; deactivated in 1963 and the fresnel lens was removed at that time. The light is currently owned by the Ontonagon Historical Society and they offer tours to the public, or you can view it from across the inlet near the end of downtown Ontonagon off of River Street.

Bayfield is certainly a nice place to visit in the summer and even in the winter the natural beauty…read moreof its surroundings are impressive but the town itself is dead in the winter. We found one nice bookstore (honest dog books) that was open but every other place of note and every coffee shop appeared to closed. Maybe it gets better on winter weekends but during the week it is not worth the drive....

I LOVE Bayfield! It is such a cute/beautiful tiny little town located on a huge Lake! What could be…read morebetter. I love the fact, that in the summer time, the population grows immensely. Tons of tourists. Plus, you can go to any of the Apostle Islands from Bayfield, which is definitely worth the trip. Especially Madeline. There really is no reason why you wouldn't want to go there if you are in Bayfield. I mean.. Just get on the Ferry, and in like 20 minutes, there you are! Bayfield has a unique vibe to it as well, tons of little family shops, good food, apples, and tons of little quaint bed and breakfasts. It really is one of those get away spots, especially if you are older and just want to chill out and enjoy yourselves without all the hustle and bustle. Love Bayfield... I really do!

What an absolute gem. This really told the story of the history of this island, and I had no idea…read moreabout any of it before waking into this museum. The historical objects and the stories told on the walls and by the museum worker were phenomenal. I loved learning about the Ojibwe people, culture and history and I can't believe how much I learned. It is amazing to have a museum exist like this. They also showed a section about the French fur traders and there were cool maps and incredible objects to see there too. The museum worker was so kind and he also told us really amazing stories and history that wasn't just in the museum. He really made it a special experience as well, I forgot to ask hiI highly recommend this museum for anyone staying at Madeline Island, it really makes you realize what a special place it is for so many reasons. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
