I cannot recommend Oregon Dream Ponies enough! We got the Unicorn Ride Experience for a 3 year old and a 13 year old last December. I communicated by email with Kim briefly before booking, and she was quick, communicative and accommodating in answering my questions. Making our purchase and scheduling our visit online was straightforward and easy, and it was great to be able to complete the paperwork electronically and save a tree. Kim and Bob were ready for us when we arrived and were incredibly friendly and welcoming. My just-turned-3 year old can be a little shy for new experiences, but before I knew it she was following Kim around, listening attentively and having a blast! They made sure to cater the experience to ensure both our girls had fun, even with their big difference in age. I loved that this was not just a pony ride, but that the kids got info about the horses, and got to actively learn about and partake in their care (brushing the horse, getting them saddled up, etc.). Once our time was up riding the horses, Bob and Kim happily chatted with our family about their facility and how they came to turn their passion into a business, while the kids watched the other animals there (the chickens were a favorite!). It's been 6 months since our visit, and my toddler is still asking me when we can go ride a horse again. (Thankfully she is no longer asking me to buy a horse and keep it in our small, inner city backyard.) Oregon Dream Ponies it's a great place to take your children and grandchildren. Our grandson has been twice, he's eight years old, and just loves going. Kim and Bob teach kids how to care for the ponies, care for their hooves, brush them, and learn how to behave around horses. This is not your typical pony ride. It's a genuine experience where children learn about horses, saddling them, caring for them, and riding. They learn how to communicate with horses. This place is just fantastic. We were looking for a place that wouldn't just provide a "pony ride" for our two sons. Both are interested in horses and horseback riding, so we wanted an experience that would help them understand safety and care as well. This is where Oregon Dream Ponies is so different and amazing - they spend lots of time grooming, even cleaning hooves, and practicing safety around horses. But, they leave plenty of time for riding and activities. We had the absolute best time with Cowgirl Kim and Cowboy Bob. We chose the hour experience of taking care of and riding the ponies. It couldn't have been a better birthday experience for our daughter. They were very kid oriented and had millions of patience with our 6 year old and her 5 year old friend. It was truly a riding lesson and all 3 girls ate up every second of it. Even the two year old surprised me by warming up and riding her pony. What a great place! We went on my daughter's second birthday. She never really got on, and it took a really long time for her to warm up, but my little city girl got to meet Ernie the pony and really enjoyed it. The couple who owns the place are both amazing! The woman was a daycare worker and middle school teacher, the man looks like a long time cowboy. My little one isn't a fan of men and he kept his distance but was so nice. We took our darling 3 year old daughter, Tessa, for the pony experience yesterday. Her best day ever! Cowgirl Kim and Cowboy Bob were perfect. Obviously, Kim has elementary school teaching experience. Tessa was engaged and loving every minute. The emphasis on always being safe around a pony was appreciated. The event includes grooming and bonding with the pony, as well as an early emphasis on good riding technique (listening, body and head position). I cannot recommend this experience enough. We'll be back when our second granddaughter is old enough! read more

I took my four year old grandson to "Pony Palooza" which was advertised as "2 Hours of Pony Fun". Tickets were $40 per child and my grandson got one pony ride that lasted all of three minutes. The rest of the time was spent sitting on a bench listening to the owner go on and on about herself, 20 minutes sitting while the owner made name tags for the kids. They had the kids take turns "riding" a stick pony around an obstacle course in the arena. More time wasted feeding chickens in the rain. Not sure what that has to do with "pony fun". Worst of all the owner Kim, after making a point of telling us she had been a middle school teacher, repeatedly made derogatory remarks about girls to an audience of 2-8 year olds who were mostly girls. Her husband, Bob, was doing show and tell about horse teeth and said, "...and the doctor came out and she was actually a lady..." So much wrong with that statement. I would not recommend you waste your time or money going to Oregon Dream Ponies. We won't either. read more

I bought a Living Social deal for a pony party for our daughter's 5th party which had a Magical Unicorn theme. Before making the purchase, I contacted the company to clarify the deal. Kim was beyond helpful and accommodating. As soon as we got off the phone, I made the purchase and then recontacted her that same day to book our party date. We added a second pony for a very reasonable rate. I honestly could not believe my luck in getting TWO ponies for my daughter's party for such a great price. They arrived right on time to set up and made sure my daughter was in place to have a great view of the surprise coming into our driveway. UNICORNS, complete with horns and glittery hoofs. We had a dozen kids at our party and they each got 2 rides up and down our street. Kim and Bob were SO great with the kids and had such a great, fun, light, energy. You could truly see how much they enjoy what they do. My younger son and one other child, were both really unsure and Kim was so patient with them and in just a few minutes, each boy was comfortable and off on their own rides. It was truly a fantastic experience and I can't wait to take my kids out to ride their ponies on location! read more

We took our 3 & 5 year old here to celebrate their birthdays. They each had their own hour with their own pony. They were introduced to the basic rules & safety, got to have hands on grooming, of course riding-with a few fun games mixed in, got to give treats when done & got to get a big hug in at the end to thank their ponies. Cowgirl Kim was so great with our kids, keeping learning fun & interesting. We will absolutely be coming back even though it's an hour & a half away, it's so worth it! We had the best time this weekend with our daughter at Oregon Dream Ponies. Our daughter is 2.5 years old. I can't rave enough about how impressed I was from start to finish. The focus is on ensuring the kids get a great introduction to ponies and their care. There was an excellent introduction to safety, and then caring for the ponies. This was followed by my child being led around the ring and a series of games. At all times, I was assured that the environment was safe and they would read the child's cues and comfort around their mount. The teachers obviously love their animals and adore children. There is also a small pen by the barn where the kids can fed the goats and watch the ducks before and after the lesson. If you are thinking about booking this, don't wait! Picturesque setting amongst the rolling hills and wineries, yet close to Portland. read more

My 6 year old daughter is quite shy and has a tendency to freeze up in new situations, but she really loves horses and wanted to learn to ride. Cowgirl Kim was so fantastic with my daughter, getting her to feel comfortable enough to actually answer her questions and follow instructions. What an absolutely fantastic experience we have had! We bought a 1 hr deal for two kids riding the ponies and they got to learn about how to take care of the pony they call Paddington- combing, cleaning out her hooves, seeing what a horseshoe is seeing the ponies teeth, giving it a walk and then two rides on its back, followed by giving it a special treat. I recently took my daughters, ages 3 and 5, for an afternoon pony riding lesson at Oregon Dream Ponies. My girls had been looking forward to the lesson for weeks, and they were not disappointed! Kim and Bob offered my girls fun facts about how to make friends with Smokey the pony (don't stand behind him; he can't see you back there!), how to make sure Smokey looks and feels his best (let's brush his coat!), and the right way to offer Smokey a treat (drop nearby, then point to it so he notices!). The riding lesson allowed each girl to have several turns in the saddle, practicing their parade waves and learning to balance without holding on. Both Kim and Bob were friendly, patient and very comfortable working with my daughters, even though one of them was still recovering from her nap and was just generally being - - well - - three! I am BEYOND pleased with Oregon Dream Ponies. I can't say enough fantastic things about Cowgirl Kim and Cowboy Bob. They truly LOVE what they are doing and are energetic, compassionate, caring, and present information in a way that any small child can understand. There aren't many places out there that specialize or even offer riding lessons for littles (ie: Kids under 4ish)--My daughter is a very tall, 2.5 year old and LOVES riding Smokey and Black Beauty. Her lessons follow a typical routine--Greet the pony in their 'bedroom'/stall, say good morning, greet his neighbours, check for poops, then Bob or Kim halter the pony to get him ready for the day. This consists of a built-upon lesson approach (review of what was talked about previously, and if attention span is doing good introducing some new information) in grooming, saddling, and a walk to 'warm up'. Lessons are hand led building upon quick and slow walking, stops, turns, reverses and a few balance games like ball-in-spoon, picking up cones set on barrels, princess waving, etc. Then there's un-tacking, and of course the much anticipated pony treat! "make sure he sees it and point, point, point!" LOVE IT! Kim and Bob obviously love what they do and I forsee us being regulars for YEARS to come. We've seen the ponies dressed up like unicorns, sparkly magic, santa hats and reindeer ears/horns! Truly a magical place to go with your little pony lover--we've only had riding lessons but I have a feeling the pony parties and pony visits are AMAZING. love love love these guys. read more
