I don't say this lightly - we have five children who have attended schools all over the country and in India and Abu Dhabi. I think what Abiqua gets right is the balance between a rigorous academic program and a holistic approach to understanding and nurturing the whole child. Whether your child is on the gifted end of the spectrum, somewhere in the middle, or needing additional support - the teachers have proven time and again they will "meet your child where he or she is at." It's not just lip service - we have lived this. We have considered moving out of the Salem area several times and two factors keep us here, one of which is the extraordinary education our children are receiving at Abiqua. I wish every single school in Salem provided the same experience - all children deserve this kind of education.

Also, I can tell the teachers are truly passionate and care so much about the kids learning and that makes me very happy. I have taken my boys (I have 3 under age 5) there a few times now and my 2 oldest can't stop talking about the fun they have had there and just keep asking to go back. I highly recommend this preschool to everyone in the Salem area. :)

The first reaction I got from her was cringe to the 'Warrior' mascot plastered everywhere. As indigenous people, this has been a sore subject my entire life. I hope they follow others and realize that having a race as a mascot is terribly offensive. In a positive note, I appreciated that feminine products were readily available free of charge in the ladies rooms. We stayed the entire day, and the girls took home the trophy! I'm so glad we live in this school district and our kids (just one attending here so far) will be benefitting from this school. The size of the school is small and feels like a private school because we have very close contact with the staff, and always know what our kids is up to. The majority of the teachers are AMAZING. They are enthusiastic about teaching and seem happy to show up for their students every day. My kid's teachers all take a genuine interest in him. He struggles at times and they have been very supportive, inclusive, and work toward his strengths. I wish my High School education had been as enlightening as this. My kid is learning in a very creative and insightful way. The science program is excellent, and the language arts curriculum is some of the best I've seen. There is a very talented music program with a band and choir who has gone to state many times and placed in the top 5 in the state. There are also very strong sports programs and many opportunities to try something new. My kid has also learned some really cool life skills (wood working, cooking, personal finance). The secondary language program is lacking a bit, but we have found resources within our community to help fill in the gap. We feel so lucky to be here at this time in our kids' lives. This school is public but feels like a high tuition private program.

That one success then enabled me to have the confidence to then take on a pre-med baccalaureate program (during which she helped me with chemistry and organic chemistry). And now I'm rocking it in medical school! I would not be who I am today without the empowerment Kate gave (gives!) me; it's not just study tools and help with topics that stand out for me, but even more important, the way she helps me see that women can be (and are) awesome at math and science. That confidence is something she has instilled in dozens of young women like me and it's been incredible to hear from some of them over the years about the ways she helped each of us find our path, our voice, and our success in math/science!
