This station for decades has always had a pretty good reputation for service and smogs. Knowing it had been sold in recent time I still did not hesitate to take my car here for the bi annual smog. Welp, my car didn't even make it that far as a check engine light came on and I was told there was no point in doing the smog as it would not pass until the death red light was extinguished. The guys here were very helpful and knowledgeable. Lorenzo explained by physically showing me under the hood what needed to done, how long it would take and how much of my life savings would be drained to complete this. While the dollar amount is high, for not having my car ever seriously serviced, I understood why. The decision to leave my car was easy , as Lorenzo's effort and time to educate me and explain in detail what needed to be done was comforting, I was confident my car was in great hands. While they had my car, Lorenzo called and said he noticed I would need an oil change soon and asked if I wanted him to do it as he had the car opened up already. I was hesitant at first, but just had him do it as I did not want to make another appointment in a couple of weeks for oil. Finally, a couple of days later and I was picking up my car. Lorenzo went over what he did. Took the time to show me what he changed out. Compared my parts to the new ones he put in , and it was like night and day, or clogged to unclogged. Let me know how my MPg's should show a difference and let me know of a couple of other things I should get done for safety reasons or looked at without any pressure of them doing it. I checked out with the cashier, paying exactly what I was quoted and the owner was so nice in giving g me a discount on my after the fact oil change. As I was leaving the owner, Gus came out and thanked me personally for trusting them with my car and for my business. That was awesome and memorable as now days, it's rare anyone says thank you or shows gratitude, and maybe even more rarer that it would be the owner of an establishment. Finding a service station that is trustworthy, knowledgeable, transparent , has integrity and fair in pricing is just as rare. But here it is. If your car is in need of any type of service or needs to be looked at, come see the guys at Old Orcutt Kwik Stop first. If they cannot fix it , they will advise you on who can , and at the very least, you will leave a little more knowledgeable about your car then when you first drove in. We've been coming to Orcutt 76 for years for our smog checks Never had a problem until today. We returned to get our inspection after making the necessary repairs and today still did not pass, thanks to the incompetence of an inspector named "Steve".He proceeded to tell us that an o2 sensor wire had been cut and wrote on the report "tampered with" we took the car back to our mechanic who located both sensor cables easily and the one that appeared "cut" was not needed. Any mechanic should have known that! So...Steve cost us more money, gas waste and time because of his incompetence. Had to pay for a new plug which was not needed, just to pass inspection. We will NEVER GO BACK to Orcutt 76 again. If you do decide to go there, RUN if a thin guy with gray hair named 'Steve' is your inspector. read more

Rudest employee ever. I came in last Friday at noon. The pump had a sign that said the card reader did not work and to go inside to pay. He asked what pump and I told him the black Jeep. I was the ONLY ONE at the gas station and he does not know the pump numbers? I handed him my credit card and said I would like to fill it up. He looked at me like I was speaking Swahili. He asked me if I wanted $10 dollars or $300. On what planet does a Jeep take $300 worth of gas?! He was just being a smart ass...I told him the only reason I came inside is because there is a sign on the pump that says the card reader does not work. Does the card reader work? I asked him. He said I don't know, some people use it This guy is absolutely clueless, rude, and clearly an idiot. I took my card back, got into my Jeep and went across the street. I got a oil change. First time there, My neighbor said they were good. I got the same price as anywhere else. No tire rotation others do at the same price included in the oil change. The guys was worried when I got in my car that I wasn't going to pay. They were watching me. I checked my maintance light in my Lexus. It was still on. I told him and he told me to go inside and pay while he reset it. Rather rude voice, I see on the paperwork it said reset. He was trying to reset it. I watched , then he said it is reset it your tire rotation why its still on. Then when I said I had that done not long ago, he said yeah right! and walked off. I made an appointment for an oil change, I was 10 mins and I apologize. I was willing to reschedule and work with them, but when I talked to the younger gentleman there, he was kinda rude about it. I even asked if I could leave my car there and come back for it later. He didn't want to even work with me. I have been coming here for a while now and have never been treated or talked to this way. He told me he needs an hour with my car and there is as no way to do. Every other time I have been there it takes them about an half hour to maybe 45 minutes. I Guess my money isn't good enough. Although I live about 1/2 mile from this business, I had not been there much other than for smog checks. My '72 Jeep just quit completely about 5 blocks away. I had some friends pusth me to Orcutt 76 but they were closed for the evening. I left it there and walked home. Came back the next and explained to Mark that I had absolutely no electrical at all....not even the horn. He said he was sick and his partner wasn't in so he was doing smog only that day. I said, no problem, get to it whenever you can. Around noon I got a call that my Jeep was ready. When I picked it up, he explained that he had charged up the battery so he could check the other electrical components. He and I both had suspected a bad regulator or alternator. He originally could find nothing wrong, so he figured he would just have to return it to me with the problem unsolved. He had the engine running with the hood up. When he closed the hood, the engine died. That was pretty weird. He re-opened it and carefull inspection revealed that a support brace on the hood was somehow coming into contact with a battery terminal and shorting it out. He put some rubber insulation on the support bar where it hit the terminal, replaced a few wires that had "fried out" and redid the ground circuit. The charge was $14 for parts plus an hour of diagnostic and labor time. He could easily have told me that I needed a new alternator and/or regulator for a whole lot more money. I was impressed with his honesty and knowledge. I will be back. read more

This really helped since I was unsure whether I had driven the car around "enough" following a Check Engine Light fix at the dealership a week prior. Sure enough, the car did not pass. I used to work at the salon next door, would go to the 76 regularly for a drink or to get gas after work. All the employees, especially Dena up front and Bill back in the garage are extremely friendly and helpful. The mechanics are stand up guys, would absolutely trust them with my vehicle, they're honest and fair. I took my truck there for everything for four years, never a problem or headache. Very rude service in the garage by both younger guy with skull bandana and older guy. I was with my newborn by myself trying to get a smog. I was rudely waved away by the younger guy when I pulled up simply trying to ask a question. Then after parking and standing in plain sight, clearly next in line, I was ignored as the younger guy Left the garage in another car. When I was finally asked if I needed something by the older man, I was told there were 4 people in front of me. So I asked for just a ball park in wait time (since I'm not a mechanic) and the older man looked at me like I was completely rude and out of line and shook his head like how should he know. I've used Orcutt 76 for years, but this past week was disappointed when they gave me a quote of $45 for an oil change, but when I came to pick my car up, they had put synthetic oil in my car without talking to me and increased my bill by over $20. I noticed the undercarriage cover from my vehicle was dropping down on one side. It looked like a screw or clip went missing. I called the place I had gotten an oil change from recently to tell them and let them know I would be coming in, in hopes for them to secure it. On my way into town, I stopped for an appointment. I noticed while pulling into park a sound and thought maybe it was the wind or something from the road. I left the appointment, heading to get this issue fixed and heard the same noise. I pulled into a parking space in Old Town Orcutt and saw that both front ends of the undercarriage cover have come undone and was completely scraping the ground. Honestly, I was stunned and wondering what to do. I thought if I could pull it off or tape it up with some duck tape I could make it over to Ford to get it fixed. I remembered that there was the 76 just a ways down and walked over in hope to find duck tape and be able to get it taped up. I did not realize they had a auto shop there also. Well my grand idea did not work and I was told by Chris if I could get my vehicle over to them he would take a look and see what he could do. After calling roadside assistance and being told they would send me a tow truck which I wasn't really interested in, I decided to slowly drive my car over to the 76, praying not to rip the cover anymore than it had or do any damage. Chris saw me pull in and attended to my vehicle. He graciously got it put back up and secured so I was able to head back home. I was and still am incredibly grateful for his help with this issue. He saved the day for me! I realized they also do smog checks and oil changes! I will definitely bring my car here for future smog checks and possible oil changes. read more
